Chapter 16: Comfort

Alex's POV:

I was having breakfast in peace, until I heard my name on the PA

Harry: "OPERATOR TOXIN TO R&D PLEASE. I REPEAT OPERATOR TOXIN TO THE R&D LAB"

I threw my trash away and walked to R&D. Shortly I arrived and was met by Harry and the director of this place, Elena Alvarez

Harry: "Alex, you'll be doing the gadget evaluation later on today. We just brought you here because Elena wanted to talk to you. I'll be leaving you two to it" he informed and walked away

"Need something Elena ?" I asked

Elena: "yes. Monika told me you fixed her Spectre. Is that true ?" So she snitched

"Yeah. I told her not to tell you" I answered

Elena: "she told me because I asked. Monica's Spectre is highly complicated, how did you manage to rewrite the frequencies into better ones without experimenting on various combinations ?" She asked

"Frequencies leave traces, all you have to do is look at every frequency and you'll see some indication that one of them was used" I explained

"There were some combinations that Monika didn't use because they often look like they wont do any good. She thought that way, but I tested each of them and I think they were 3 or 4 frequencies. One of them had the better qualities it looked so I went with it"

Elena: "it was that simple ?" She asked and I nodded

Elena: "tuviste suerte (you got lucky)" she said in spanish

"no, conozco mi camino con la electrónica (no, I know my way around electronics)" I also responded in spanish, which took her by surprise

Elena: "puedes hablar español ?? (You can talk spanish ??)" She asked

"Sí" I answered

Elena: "you're not half bad, kid"

"Oh and by the way; I'm not doing the evaluation unless I get my space here" I gestured in the lab

Elena: "qué ?! Como diablos no lo eres, es obligatorio, así que tendrás que hacerlo. No me envíes un correo negro para darte una estación aquí, imbécil (what ?! like hell you're not, its mandatory so you'll have to do it. dont fucking black mail me into giving you a station here you asshole)" she started yelling in spanish which gained the attention of the few operators that were in the lab with us

"Calm down woman! Doesn't it mean that I'm qualified to get a station because of what I did for Monika ?" She went silent for a few seconds

Elena: "multa. pero me ayudarás a solucionar cualquier problema con cualquier dispositivo en el futuro. negociar ? (fine. but you will help me fix any problems with any gadgets in the future. deal ?)" She said and stuck her hand out

"Deal" I agreed

Elena: "follow me" she said and started walking. Then she showed me to the empty work station that was in the corner of the lab

Elena: "will this do ?" She asked. It looks to be an empty work station that looked a bit flawed, but nonetheless will do. I'll fix the flaws later

"Yes. Thank you"

Elena: "you're welcome. What can you tell me about your gadget ?" She asked

"Its a chemical gas that creates hallucinations to whoever inhales it. I twist the halluc-" she cut me off

Elena: "I'll be sending James for your lead evaluation. I'll read about the gadget later, now I'm busy. Dont forget about our agreement!" She made sure
