Chapter 26: A friend

Alex's POV:

I was having lunch alone after I spent the whole morning training with Sam, some rainbow operators who I've never met before were there, Kaid and Oryx. They had a castle or something to watch over but they were part of Rainbow nonetheless. I asked Oryx what his gadget was and he answered 'I am the gadget'. The guy had unbelievable strength, so I guess he is the gadget. I got a message, I took out the phone and it was Grace. She wanted me to come to the lounge, last time I was there I got a hangover and regretted existence. I was going to say no but then I saw the SAS get into another fight with Olivier, so I had to get out. I replied with 'fine' and threw my trash away. After a short walk I arrived and saw a number of operators sitting down and talking. They were Tina, Ela, Meghan, Grace, and Erik

"Hey" I greeted all of them and they all greeted in return

Meghan: "hey Alex, take a seat" she gestured me to sit on the couch

Grace: "so how was the tests ?" She asked

"They went great, Meghan helped us with her cameras so that was a plus"

Grace: "a true cam girl she is" they all started laughing at that comment

Meghan: "whatever" she said

Tina: "hey Alex ? Can I ask you a few questions about your gas ?"

"Sure" I answered. All of them looked at me, it seems that they also have questions that need answering

Tina: "what happens if you inhale it and dont get the cure ?"

"Isn't that in the gadget evaluation report ? Cuz I remember telling James that"

Ela: "we know that it goes away after 3 to 6 weeks, but what we dont know is, what happens within that period ?"

"Well, you'll slowly lose your mind. You'll be in constant fear until someone twists your fear into something"

Tina: "so not just you who can twist the fear, it can be someone else"

"Yeah. I guess if you know what you're doing that is"

Meghan: "what if they dont have something to be afraid of ?"

"Then you give them something to be afraid of. And I only use the liquid when it comes to interrogations. The liquid can work on those who dont have fear, but the difference between someone who's afraid and someone who's not is the ones who got fear are just waiting for their fear to be twisted. But when there's someone who dont fear anything, even in their subconscious, the liquid will make them vulnerable for fear to get in, that's when you'll be giving them something to be afraid of. The gas has the same effects but the liquid is far more stronger than the gas"

Erik: "damn.. how do you so much about their effects on the inhaler ?" Grace hit the back of his head

Grace: "it's his gadget, of course he knows that much. but yeah I also would like to know" she said

"It's...-" Meghan spoke

Meghan: "You dont have to answer that"

"No, no. It's just... Human testings" I mustered up the courage to say those two words. They all went silent for a few long seconds

Meghan: "were they innocent ?" She asked

"No. They were our captured prisoners, but at the very first of making it i stopped the testings on them because even if they were bad, they were still humans, so I stopped because the guilt was too much"

Erik: "but yet here you are, with a working fear gas"

"I eventually started working on it again, I.. I dont know why. But I just went on working on it again"
