Yelena didn't understand a lot of the team dynamics in the Avengers. She was uncertain of how this particular group of individuals was able to work together. On paper, they made no sense.

When her sister had convinced her to join the team, she didn't hesitate to accept. It's not like she had anything else to do, and being close to Natasha was important to her.

There was one member of the team that confused her more than the rest, Y/n.

Y/n was the youngest immediate member of the team. However, she was also definitely the "mom" of the group. Now, Y/n was just as skilled as the rest of the team when it comes to combat. It wasn't like she was on the sidelines at all.

She just had a way of caring for everyone that Yelena couldn't always grasp.

For example, there was this one night when Yelena couldn't sleep. She found herself curled up on the couch watching tv in the compound. She only had the volume on about five, but it seemed like that was loud enough to alert Y/n.

" Hey, couldn't sleep?"

Yelena jumped at the sound of Y/n's voice, not expecting anyone to be up at this hour.

" Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you"

Yelena shook her head," I'm fine, it's just a restless night for me"

Y/n frowned," Do you think tea would help? I'm going to make you some tea"

Before Yelena could protest, Y/n was already in the kitchen boiling water for the tea.

When Y/n returned with the tea, she sat it on the coffee table in front of Yelena.

" Thanks, I'm sorry if I woke you"

" You didn't, I always come in here around this time to see if anyone else is awake. There's a lot of people in this place that have trouble sleeping"

Yelena was slightly baffled by the statement, but slowly nodded her head like she understood," That's very nice of you."

Y/n shrugged her shoulders," I suppose it is. I'm going to go back to bed, I hope you enjoy the tea. Oh, and if you need me my door is on the left of yours, don't hesitate to knock"

After that, Y/n went to her room, leaving Yelena dumbfounded on the couch. She paused for a moment before making a move to sip the tea.

She almost moaned at the taste of it and decided to take it to bed with her. After drinking it, she almost instantly fell asleep.

That was only the first time Y/n had done something nice for Yelena. After Yelena expressed to her that the tea had helped her fall asleep. Y/n left a cup of tea on the counter for Yelena every evening.

Things progressed even further the night that had been startled awake by a nightmare. The panic she felt was so intense that she couldn't fall back asleep. She was on edge, and she didn't know what to do. It was late, and surely everyone in the compound was asleep.

She wanted to go to her sister, but Natasha had left for a mission earlier in the day. It wasn't until she looked over to her dresser and saw the cup of tea that she thought about going to Y/n.

Yelena knew that she could trust Y/n, but she was still hesitant to knock on the girl's door. She hated feeling like she couldn't handle things on her own. She knew Y/n wouldn't judge her, but she wasn't used to being vulnerable.

It took about ten minutes for Yelena to convince herself to go to Y/n's room. It took a little longer to gather the courage to knock. After she knocked, she stood up straight with her determination in her eyes.
