When Fury told the team that you'd be joining Natasha was indifferent. She had known you from a few missions, all in which you had been quite impressive. You were a former S.H.I.E.D. agent and now it seemed like you were getting promoted.
Natasha wasn't surprised to hear that you'd be joining the team. After all they let you go on missions with her, so it was already pretty clear that you were one of the best.
As far as Natasha knew, you were good at your job. You were probably one of the easiest agents to be on a mission with when it came to getting the job done. When it came to conversations and joking around she had known you to be no nonsense.
She tried a few times to joke with you while you were on missions, but the most she ever got was a polite smile. However, she couldn't complain because you always got the job done. You were quick and efficient which is why she didn't mind your lack of communication skills.
Everyone is not a people person and Natasha knew that better than anyone else. Nevertheless she did think of the Avengers as her family more than her coworkers. She couldn't see you sitting with them at movie night or joking with them at dinner.
" Natasha, you've worked with Agent Y/ln before, what do you think?" Steve asked, when Fury finally left the office.
" Well she's damn good at her job. I don't think I've ever met anyone that can handle a hard mission like Y/ln"
Tony interjects," But..."
Natasha continued," But I don't know she's going to handle all of our different personalities. She wasn't a hardass, the only way I can describe her is kind of stoic?"
Thor groaned," Not another Banner"
" Hey! I'm funny"
Wanda laughed," Sure you are. Mr.' I'm always angry' "
The entire table laughed at Wanda's impression while Bruce just grumbled underneath his breath.
" Come on guys, maybe she'll be different outside of work," Steve tried to argue.
Natasha shrugged her shoulders," Maybe"
They all went their separate ways after that, anticipating the arrival of their new teammate.
Natasha started to recall little things she noticed about you on the mission. You two were never super friendly, but there were certain things she still took note of. Like the ghost of a smile you'd get when you'd done something really impressive, or the way she'd always catch you glancing at her during combat.
Natasha knew that you were a considerate teammate. You had definitely saved her from injury before, but she didn't know if there was anything else to you. The crazy thing is, she really wanted to.
She wanted to know if you had a favorite movie, kind of music you listened to, and what was your favorite meal. The more she thought about you the more her curiosity grew.
The chance of you being as one dimensional as you presented yourself was small. Natasha understood that, but what exactly did that mean for you. What kind of person were you if not just a fucking mission machine.
Natasha got her answer the next day and she was completely baffled.
Since the team was expected to meet you, they had the day off. Which was supposed to mean Natasha would get to sleep in for the first time in weeks.
Instead she woke up at 7 am to loud cheers in the tower. She huffed as she got out of bed to all of the commotion.
When she reached the sound, she tilted her head in confusion. The team was chanting for what had seemed to be a drinking competition between Tony, Thor, and you.
