You were hurt; not physically, but emotionally. Kate had hurt you without even knowing it. She was keeping things from you.

You had no idea what she was hiding, only that in your opinion it seemed to be life or death. She had been more absent in your life than ever. She had ignored calls and text, when she did answer it would always be rushed.

Kate always had labored breathing on your calls and only used quick phrases to reply to text. You were worried about the girl. She was adventurous and that always led to danger for her.

When she finally told you what was going on, you didn't feel relief. In fact you were angrier than before.

" You could've died, Kate."

" That doesn't matter Y/n, innocent people were-"

" It matters to me, Kate. Innocent people? You mean a mass murderer ," you looked at her in disbelief.

Her jaw set," Clint is a hero and I am too. I thought you'd be happy for me."

You turned your back to her," Thrilled. My best friend has been lying to me and putting her life on the line for a grown man that should be fully capable on his own."

" I'm going to stay with Clint and his family for a bit. I just wanted to see you before I left, but I guess it was a mistake," she headed for the door.

You thought of your last words to Kate. They could've been a confession or a plea of sorts.

They could've been a farewell, but instead you let out a barely audible," I guess it was."

When Kate left, you let all of your emotions fly. The angry tears did little to stop you from throwing whatever was near you at the wall.

Glass, magazines, pillows, and your phone had all been victims of your rage.

Why couldn't she see it, how you did? You never doubted Kate's abilities, but that didn't mean you wanted her throwing herself in danger.

" Fuck"

When you were done throwing your tantrum, you end up with your back against one of your walls. The tears were now purely sadness, knowing your friend was gone.

" Oh you poor thing"

Your eyes shot open to see a woman in front of you. Her black fingertips are surrounded by cloudy red magic. Her attire could only be described as powerful.

She was floating at first but you had seen her feet hit the floor as she strode to you.

" I could feel your sorrows from miles away," she was closing in on you.

" Wh-what do you want?"

" I don't want anything from you. I'm simply here to make you an offer."

You shook your head," No thank you."

She laughed," I know you're lonely. You've lost the last person that your heart could take. You're upset and confused. I can't mend the broken relationship, but I can offer you something even better."

Your eyes are trained on her. So much so that you didn't see her figure sitting besides you as she whispered in your ear, " Power."

You jumped at her sudden presence, " What does power have to do with Kate?"

" Well she's going to be a hero right? Every hero needs a villain," the woman shrugged her shoulders.

She was right. If Kate wouldn't heed your warning maybe you could make her change her mind another way.
