A day hardly went by where Y/n didn't think of Max. I mean it was normal to an extent. They were friends and friends worry about each other.

At least that's what Y/n told herself. It didn't matter that Max had the softest touch she ever felt or that her laugh was a cure for any bad day Y/n was having. It didn't matter because Max had Lucas.

Y/n hated Lucas. She thought of him as some backwards love doctor boy. Lucas thought he knew girls and thought he was some sort of casanova.

Y/n never bought into his bullshit. If anyone knew girls it was her. Y/n was very out and very proud. No one really had the power to break her stride. The only thing that ever really bugged her was being around Lucas.

So naturally when Max asked Y/n to hangout with the her and Lucas, Y/n declined.

" Come on dude. I just wanna hangout with my two favorite people," Max put on a pout. The pout had never failed before and she was sure it would work this time.

Y/n struggled against the power of the pout but for the first time ever she stood her ground," I can't."

Max was shocked that Y/n still turned her down. It had never happened before and it seemed to upset her," Why not?"

Y/n easily picked up the irritation in Max's voice. She sighed before replying to the red head," Max you're my best friend and I love you but I don't want to third wheel you and your boyfriend."

There was always a twinge in Y/n's heart when she called Max her best friend. She always wanted for more between them but before she was going to make the move Lucas swooped in.

" If anyone would the third wheel it'd be Lucas and you know it," Max tried to lighten up the mood but Y/n wasn't really in to it.

" I gotta go Max, I hope you have fun with Lucas," Y/n left Max in a hurry.

Max's eyes followed Y/n until she was no longer visible. The red head let out a heafty sigh. This wasn't the first time Y/n had rushed off at the mention of being around Lucas.

Max desperately wanted the two to get along. She just wanted to hangout with her favorite people together. It was in that moment she decided that matters had to be taken into her own hands.

--------

Y/n face planted in her bed completely exhausted from her day. However not exhausted enough to push the thoughts of Max aside for one night.

She almost wished she would've accepted the invitation to hang out with the couple. At least then she could be around Max even if she would be tuned into her boyfriend.

" Y/n you have some visitors!" Her mom yelled from downstairs making her groan. She hadn't been expecting anyone and there was really only one person she wanted to see at the moment.

Y/n reluctantly climbed down the stairs with her too big shirt and too big shorts engulfing her.

When she opened the front door she was met by two people. One she really wanted to see and one she didn't want to see ever.

" Um what are you guys doing here?" Y/n frowned at the couple part of her wanted to close the door the other part longed to spend time with Max.

" I thought you said she wanted to hangout," Y/n couldn't help rolling her eyes at the sound of
Lucas's voice.

" I told Max that I didn't want to so I'm really confused to as why you guys are here?"

Y/n gave Max a look which made the red head shiver. Part of Max was hoping Y/n would just go along with it but that did not seem to be the case.

" Max I think we should just leave. Y/n's boring anyway," Lucas tried to pull Max with him but she shrugged him off.

" She's not boring you just don't know her like I do," hearing Max stand up for her made Y/n's heart flutter.

" No she's definitely boring and she never wants to hangout. I don't even understand why you're still friends with her she clearly doesn't care about you enough to spend time with you."

Lucas was frustrated he didn't understand why his girlfriend dragged him all the way to Y/n's when the girl didn't even want to see them. All he wanted was to spend time with his girlfriend but Y/n was holding up that process.

" I don't like Lucas," Y/n stated looking directly at Max," It's not that I don't want to spend time with you. I just can't stand your boyfriend."

Then Y/n turned her attention to Lucas," And you, you have some nerve trying to ruin my friendship with Max. I love Max and I care for her in ways you'll never understand. So I suggest you get off my porch before I beat your ass."

Lucas did not back down. He stepped right up so that he was face to face with Y/n. The girl closed the front door behind her as she stepped outside.

She wasn't afraid of Lucas and if he wanted a fight, he would get one.

" You both need to relax," Max interjected trying to defuse the situation.

It was too late. Lucas had pushed Y/n. Y/n wasted no time swinging for the boys head. Then a brawl began.

They were fighting infront of Y/n's house while Max screamed and tried to break them apart.

The commotion became so loud that Y/n's father ended up coming out of the house. He broke apart the pair and stared daggers into Lucas.

He held Y/n back by the arms while speaking calmly to the boy," You need to get off my property and never come back."

This was enough to scare the young black boy and he took off sprinting.

Y/n's father turned his attention to the distressed freckle faced girl," I think you should head out too Max."

Max caught eyes with Y/n. She was pleading with her eyes. Max didn't want to leave until she knew that Y/n was 100% ok.

" She can stay dad," Y/n's father nodded and escorted the two  girls back inside.

" Next time I see that boy I swear," Y/n's dad spoke rage present in his features.

" Honey what happened?" Y/n's mom rushed up to her gently grabbing her daughter's face.

" Lucas happened I'm going to call his parents." Y/n removed her face from her mother's hands. " Dad leave it. Max is going to help me with this and we'll be back down for dinner."

Y/n grabbed Max's hand and dragged her up the stairs. They landed in the bathroom with Y/n siting on the counter.

Max had cotton balls and alcohol ready to clean Y/n's wounds. She stepped between Y/n's legs. This made Y/n's heartbeat jump. Especially when Max started leaning in to clean her wounds.

" I'm sorry I shouldn't have come and I really shouldn't have brought Lucas," Max started to tear up.

Y/n made the bold move of pulling Max even closer to her. She wiped the girl's tears away. " It's ok, I'm ok."

Max got lost in Y/n's eyes and for the first time in their friendship she saw it. The way Y/n looked at her like she was the only thing in the world.

Max didn't know what compelled her but she leaned in. When her lips touched Y/n's it felt right. Her lips where way softer than Lucas's. They felt better and this kiss felt way more natural.

" Y/n?"

" Hm"

Max took a deep breath and took Y/n by the hands," I think I'm going to break up with Lucas because nothing he and I had did together felt as good as that."

All Y/n could do was smile," Does this mean I can ask you on a date?"

Max nodded eagerly," I would love to go out with you."

The two teens spent the rest of the night together just enjoying each other. Max broke things off with Lucas. Her and Y/n's relationship only grew stronger from there. They became girlfriends and though it may be many years away they knew they'd become wives.
