You weren't ready for the war. How could you ever be ready for something like this? You didn't have a choice, but to fight. If you didn't, failure was certain. Who's to say that it still wasn't certain.

The war was taking over most of your thoughts. The other space was occupied by thoughts of your ex. She was going to war too.

Her battle was more intense than yours. She was fighting to save someone very important to her. You couldn't use the official term for what they were.

It would pull you out of focus to even think of the man that had replaced you. He wasn't even really a man at all. To think that the two of you had ever been friends made you want to hurl.

Friends don't do what he's done to you.

Your leg bounces restlessly as you tape up your wrist in preparation for the battle. You glance over at the pair, eyes lingering on Wanda.

A thought slips into your mind before you can stop it.

Can I get a kiss, can you make it last forever? Said I'm bout to go to war. I don't if Imma see you again

You pray she didn't hear you. When her eyes hit yours, you know she did. Quickly, you rise from your seat and exit the room.

You found yourself staring out of a window onto what would be your battlefield. There was nothing that you could do to quiet the fear you had. This felt like the end, and that terrified you.

The hardest part of this for you was the reason you were going to war. It was to stop Thanos, but it was also to save Vision. How could you save him, after what he had done to you?

He was willing to sacrifice himself, the stone would've been destroyed. Thanos wouldn't have even had this opportunity, but Wanda campaigned for him. She fought for his life,, and now you would have to do the same.

" You're shaking"

You weren't going to look at her. It would break the little composure that you had.

" It's cold"

" It's not," her rebuttal was immediate.

You didn't have anything else to say. What else could you have to say? It wasn't the right time to say anything that you were feeling. There'd probably never be a right time after this.

Your eyes were getting glossy, and you were hyper aware of that. You bowed your head briefly before steeling your gaze.

" Come sit with me."

" I'm fine," you shook your head.

" Y/n, please," she pleaded.

You sighed, making your way to where Wanda was sitting. It wasn't a very large bench, but you made sure to leave space between the two of you.

" I can feel the fear that's locked away inside of you"

Your hands were neatly folded on your lap. The perfect objects to stare at while Wanda spoke to you.

" I can hear your heart screaming at you"

You don't let your breath hitch as she continues.

" I can hear your head trying to hold it all together"

You stayed silent, not knowing how you were supposed to respond to any of her words.

" I want you to help me protect Vision in case something goes wrong"

The scoff escapes your lips before you can stop it," So you can hear my pain, but you're choosing to ignore it? This whole thing, me being here in the first place, is helping the two of you. I know you don't care, but it's making me sick. It makes me physically ill to see the two of you together"

" Grow up, Y/n"

You face her, anger clouding your calm," Grow up? What aren't you understanding about how this is affecting me? I'm going into a war, Wanda. If I were to go out there and die, no one would care. My last moments would be fighting a war to save the man that has stolen everything from me. How am I supposed to feel?"

Wanda won't meet your eyes," He didn't steal anything"

You chuckle," Don't pull that shit with me, Maximoff. I did everything right. I checked off every single box, and it used to be enough for you. No one can compete with the smartest entity on the planet. Once he had you on his radar, there was no getting you back"

" Y/n-"

You cut her off," Don't Y/n me. Just don't"

You try to walk away from her, but she grabs your hand. Everything inside of you freezes at the contact. Her cloud soft skin against your calloused palm was a sensation that was foreign, but familiar.

This felt like intimacy. She was too close. Her hand was in yours, and she was directly into your eyes.

" I'm sorry."

" It doesn't matter"

She takes a deep breath," It does. We're about to go to war. If these are our last moments together, then I have to make things right."

You're trying with everything in you not to break. The shaking is worse, the tears are threatening to spill, if you were to speak there would be a wobble in your voice.

" Y/n, I love you. I love you so much. There was never a time where I didn't love you. You are my first love, and letting you go was one of the hardest things I've ever done."

" Why?" You wanted to hear her say it. You wanted to hear why she couldn't be with you.

" I knew I couldn't stay with you because of how curious Vision made me. Everything about him was so interesting to me. I found myself thinking about him often, and that wasn't fair to you. I know that the only person that was ever on your mind was me"

You were no longer strong enough to keep the tears at bay. The pettiest part of you ached to know if she loved him like she loved you. If you'd ever measure up against him.

You didn't ask, there was no more time. From where you stood, you could see Thanos's ship slowly approaching.

You cleared your throat and wiped your eyes," You should check on him. The army is approaching"

She frowned, looking between you and the room where the scientists were working on Vision.

" Go," you nodded to the room.

She wasn't moving towards the door. Instead, she was slowly leaning into you. You didn't move.

Her lips pressed against your cheek. She pulled away and walked towards the door. She kept your hand in hers until the distance was too large.

She looked back at you before she entered the room. There was a finality in the moment that left you uneasy.

Your eyes stay trained on the door. Almost as if you were waiting for her to come back out. You knew she wouldn't, but you couldn't help it. With one final sigh, you made your way to the battlefield, scared for your life and uncertain in your emotions.

Can I get a kiss, can you make it last forever? Said I'm bout to go to war. I don't if Imma see you again.
