Aurora's P.O.V
"Hey can I talk to you for a second? I wanted to run something by you." I knock on Cy's door and he signals me in.
"Sure, what's going on?" Sitting down I turn my laptop screen so it's facing him and show him a building that's up for sale that has caught my attention. "This isn't too far from where your old building used to be." He says looking at its information.
"Yeah, I was actually thinking of buying this building and using it as our new work space. Of course I'd have to check it out and fix it up, if it needs fixing but it has more than enough floors to fit in everyone and it won't be an inconvenience in terms of transport because it's more or less in the same area."
"I see you've thought this through."
"I have, so what do you think?" He looks at me nodding.
"I think that it's a great move, a little too soon but great nonetheless. I say go for it." Beaming I take my laptop and start emailing the real estate agent to set up an appointment for me to see the building. "I know you're anxious for things to go back to the way they were and to pick up where you left off but just don't rush it okay, take your time with this."
"I hear you but you know just as well as I do that the longer this takes, the more money I lose and not just me but also Ben, all my other business partners, my workers and my writers. I just can't let that happen." I say distressed.
"You are not doing this by yourself so don't worry, I've got you." I offer him a small smile.
"Thank you, really, this means a lot to me." Leaving Cy's office I head to my bedroom and work from there, after emailing the agent we decide on meeting later this week, at noon. I still can't believe what Mikey said, about Kim's father being involved with the mafia, I mean that's just crazy! But ever since hearing the news I've kind of been avoiding Kim and I think she noticed. We have a dinner date tonight because she's coming over to the house, which means I can't run anymore and that I have to face her. I head to the kitchen to look for Mary. "Hey Mary."
"Yes Miss?"
"About tonight's dinner, I'm expecting a guest and we'll be eating outside tonight so could you please set that table."
"Would you like the chef to prepare anything specific?" The girl eats anything.
"Anything spicy will do, thank you." Hearing my phone ring I rush to it.
Aurora: Hello?
Detective: Hello Miss Anderson? This is detective Clark, from the NYPD, I'm calling in relations to the building you own Miss and I'm sorry to tell you this but it was burned down a couple of days ago.
Aurora: What? What happened?
Detective: We don't know the ins and outs of it yet bet we're still investigating which is why I was hoping to talk to you but I can't seem to find any listed address belonging to you.
Aurora: At the moment I'm not at my place but we can meet here at East 22nd Street and Park Avenue South, Le penthouse at 172 Madison.
Detective: Of course, thank you.
After discussing it with Cy we decided that it was best to carry on conducting our own investigation and not telling the police anything. If they ever contact me about it I should just act oblivious to the whole thing, I contacted Justin and Amira as well and told them to do the same thing.
"Miss Anderson, a detective Clark is here to see you." Benson informs me.
"Thank you Benson, let him in please." I make my way to the living room, to him. "Detective Clark, pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is all mine Miss Anderson, it's a really nice place you've got here." He says looking around. I guide him into the living room and we take our seats.
"Thank you. Would you like anything to drink detective Clark, tea or coffee perhaps?"
"A cupa joe would be nice, black please."
"Of course, Benson could you please get the officer a cup of coffee, black, thank you." After Benson leaves he begins talking.
"Miss Anderson I'm sorry to say but I was a little shocked when I called you about the incident and you had no knowledge of it, I also found it odd how some of your employees didn't know as well. I mean usually when someone runs a business I'd assume they're on top of everything."
"Before the accident my staff and I decided to take a well deserved break, so no one was really at the office, aside from the janitors of course which is why none of us knew." I explain sounding sad. I can tell he's reading my body movements, the way I'm reacting to certain things.
"Well that would explain it, now Miss Anderson can you think of anyone who would try to hurt you or one of your workers?" I act confused.
"What do you mean want to hurt us, the fire was an accident." His body relaxes a little bit and he moves forward, about to speak Benson comes back with his coffee and he goes silent, waiting for Benson to leave.
"I don't think this was an accident Miss Anderson, I think someone lit that fire on purpose. Mm this is good coffee." He praises taking another sip.
"Someone intentionally wanted to burn down my building? But why?!"
"I was hoping you could tell me." My questioning with detective Clark goes on for a while till he finally leaves and I release a breath I didn't know I was holding, that was scary. I tell Cy that what I got from my conversation with the detective is that the police don't know anything at the moment but are digging around for sure. If we play our cards right this might not have to get ugly.
Detective Clark's P.O.V
"So? Did you find anything?" My partner Reigen asks when I get into the car." I shake my head no.
"No I didn't."
"Then why do you look like that?" I look at her confused.
"I don't know but .. I just have this feeling, her story had no wholes in it, her reaction to everything was accurate and for someone who just lost something very valuable to her she seemed a little calm."
"So what does that mean?" She asks starting the car.
"That she's had time to process and I might be wrong but I think she already knew about the fire, probably the night it happened and chose not to go to the police. What I can't figure out is why but, I will."
