Kristie's POV
"Is it on?" My sister asks as she appears on the Zoom meeting.
"Yeah." I say. "It starts in a few minutes."
"Where'd she qualify?" Crystal asks as she appears on the Zoom meeting.
Stella's racing this morning in the British Grand Prix and since we're at the challenge cup in Utah, the national team and I are having breakfast on Zoom while watching the race.
"2nd." I say as Stella appears on screen.
"You're an idiot." Christen mumbles.
Even the national team ladies who aren't in Utah are on the Zoom call.
"What?" I say.
"She said you're an idiot." Sam says.
"You're also an idiot for flirting with Sam Kerr." Moe says.
"I'm not flirting." I say.
"Bitch." Ash says.
"If you don't think all those comments on her instagram are flirty then you really must be stupid." Emma says.
"Kelley you and the Utah girls better fuck Kristie up." Christen says.
"Oh we will." Kelley says.
"How could you not want to be Rayne's Mom?" Sam asks.
"Because I'm scared Sam." I finally admit. "I'm scared alright."
"Of what?"
"What if one day they wake up and don't want anything to do with me?" I ask. "What if Stella finds someone better than me?"
"Stop saying what if." Crystal says.
"I'd rather have a life of oh wells than a life of what ifs." Ali says.
"Plus she's your fucking soulmate." Tobin says.
"AND YOUR DOMME." Christen shouts.
"Babe chill." Tobin says.
"Kristie your stupid if you can't see how much Stella and Rayne love you and need you in their lives." Sam says.
"I'm pretty sure Stella would stop racing if you asked her too." Emma says.
"But I don't want her to." I say.
"And that's one of the reasons Stella loves you." Christen says.
"Plus Rayne thinks of you as her other mother." Crystal says. "Or should I say thought of you as her other mother."
"Rayne deserves someone better than me." I say as the race begins.
"Oh Kristie." Jessica says and shakes her head. "You have a lot to learn."
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Kids know more than you think." Jessica says. "And Rayne knows you're supposed to be her other mother. She loves you almost as much as she loves Stella and anybody with eyes can see that."
"She wouldn't have asked you to be her mother otherwise." Emma says.
"Is that Stella?" Sam asks so I look up at the tv.
On the tv Stella's car goes dead straight through a corner and ends up in a tire barrier
"Not again." I say then the tv people play the radio communication between Stella and her team.
"Stella you okay?" Stella's Race Engineer London asks.
"Yeah I'm fine." Stella says making me breathe a sigh of relief. "Brakes failed, but I'm fine."
