Y/n was slightly tripping the next day, as she was standing in the Ferrari garage with her helmet, balaclava and gloves in her hand starring out at the track and the sky, which were getting darker and darker indicating that rain was about to arrive. She had finished her warm ups and was honestly just dragging the inevitable as long as she could.
But of course it wouldn't last long, as Peter came over and placed a hand on her shoulder telling her that it was time to get in the car. She took a deep breath starring at the sky one last time before eventually climbing into the car.
She was now parked on the grid in her P3 spot with a bunch of mechanics surrounding the car and preparing it. Another mechanic was standing with an umbrella over her helmet seeing as it had begun raining by now. Luckily she had what looked to be the right tires on seeing as the track would quickly become wet and almost undrivable.
Y/n adjusted her position slightly in her seat checking if her seatbelt was strapped on correctly. It was, and now all she could do was wait for lights out. Finally everyone left the grid except the cars of course, and Y/n tapped her steering wheel trying to calm herself down. She knew that she would have to focus 100% on this race if she wanted to keep her position and also make it through the race without hurting anyone.
Driving the formation lap was slightly calming as she had found a bit of feeling with the car seeing as the rain was still pouring down on the track. The audience could definitely sense the tension that was hanging in the air. All the cars were being extra careful not to spin out or crash into anyone else.
Finally they pulled up to the grid again as the actual race was about to begin. Y/n's grib around her steering wheel tightened and she felt her heat racing.
"And it's lights out and away we go here at the rainy Grand Prix on Portugal. Was a first battle we see into turn 1 with the two Bulls on front row. It looks like Verstappen is keeping his position closely followed by his teammate and the female Ferrari driver closing in. Already drama in the midfield as Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll slightly touch, but both cars seem intact, and the rain keeps on pouring..."
Y/n got through the first 4 laps without loosing or gaining any positions. Her gab was currently 6.4 to the closest Red Bull, and a part of her brain was telling her just to keep her position as the rain was still pouring down on the track maybe it almost unable to drive and definitely unable to see a thing. And the last thing she wanted was to get caught in Alex' rainy stream so she could potentially crash or spin out.
"Alright Y/n, can you please describe the conditions on track for me?" Riccardo spoke over the radio. "I can't see a fucking thing and it's hard to find a grib, but I'm trying" Y/n spoke back in annoyance. In her opinion, this race was too dangerous at the moment.
"Yellow flag, Y/n Yellow flag" A saftycar was enabled as a Williams and a Haas had both spun out around the same corner trying to overtake each other. Y/n followed the safety car as she had just pitted a lap earlier. A few laps later the safety car was gone and it was back to the race. With 35 laps to go, Y/n was increasing her speed and slowly closing the gab to Alex. But he was fast, and multiple times, she had to defend herself from Sergio Perez that was currently behind her.
Y/n felt her breaks slightly lock into turn 11 causing her car to turn a bit. Luckily it wasn't enough to spin out, but it was enough for her to cut the apex a bit loosing a few seconds which Perez used to overtake her in. She groaned in frustration, but quickly followed Perez trying to get her position back. She had no idea how the rest behind her were doing, but she honestly didn't care or had the time to focus on others now.
She kept loosing grib on the car, and it became more and more dangerous. "This race is getting more and more dangerous. Why isn't there a red flag yet? This needs to be stopped" Y/n spoke in a high voice over the radio as the rain increased and her vision did the opposite. She clipped the apex around some corners the wrong way again, yet again loosing seconds as she felt the car behind her breath down her neck.
"We don't know, Y/n. We're asking now, but you have to keep on moving" Riccardo said. With 20 laps to go she had lost two positions, but regained on of them keeping her P5 position at the moment. No red flag had been enabled yet, and Y/n knew for a fact that she would be going straight to the FIA or just someone so she could complain because this was far from safe. And then she saw it. The red flag being waved around in the air.
"Come back to the pits, Y/N. That's a red flag" Riccardo said, but Y/n interrupted. "Finally they listened, this shit is soo dangerous." but she didn't know everything. "No, Y/N red flag is out because two cars just crashed" her heart sank and she froze for a second. This was exactly what she feared. Just before she drove into the pits, she was driving past the crash, and her eyes widened. On car was upside down while the other were half upside down against the barrier with two wheels missing. Even though it was hard to see for the rain, and she couldn't see which cars it was, it still looked horrible.
She had finally entered the pits and her car was pulled back into the garage. As she climbed out of her car and took her helmet and balaclava off, she noticed that Charles had yet to pit. "What the hell happened out there? Who crashed" Y/n asked the people by the screens as both Peter and Riccardo and even Mr. Binotto had gathered around her.
"Y/n... it was Bottas and Charles"
A/N Oh shiiiiit... is he dead? What will happen??? I hope you enjoy the story so far <3
