Trigger Warning

****

- Zewu-Jun? Forgive me, I am just going to be a moment...  -  Wei Wuxian cheekily barged into the master bedroom, without waiting for a permission to enter, knowing full well that he wouldn't receive one.

- Wei Qianbei.  –  Lan Xichen frowned, closing his clothes more, instinctively.

He had been sitting on the floor, just in his night clothes, meditating. The room was freezing  –  the window was open wide, but Zewu-Jun didn't seem to mind.

- I am sure you prefer to be on your own right now, Master Lan.  –  Wei Ying grinned.  –  But I am afraid it cannot wait. And we didn't see you at breakfast. Neither you, nor my brother.

- What?! Why?  –  Lan Xichen raised an eyebrow.

- Zewu-Jun...  -  Wei Ying started seriously, the smile on his lips disappearing too fast.  –  Do you realize that my brother is dying?

Lan Huan jumped to his feet immediately, panicking:

- What?! What has happened? Is he aright?!?  –  he asked breathlessly, staring at the door now, anxious to run and check.

- Oh, it's not new. It's been happening for some time now.  –  Wei Wuxian said carelessly, folding his arms in front of his chest.  –  It is quite plain to see  –  he does not sleep, he does not eat, and he is so miserable that he cannot get out of bed. If this goes on  –  he will lose the baby, and this will kill him, trust me.  –  he frowned.

Lan Xichen looked away, flushed, but his face was distorted by deep pain.

- I am aware. –  he mumbled.

- Oh, I see.  –  Wei Ying mocked.  –  So you are alright with it? Because this is what it looks like from aside! But, Zewu-Jun...  -  he growled.  –  I am not  alright with it. He is my brother. My only brother.  –  he hissed.

- There is nothing I can do...  -  Lan Huan sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed helplessly. He knew where the conversation was going, and wasn't too sure he would be able to stand on his feet for much longer.

- Who can?!  –  Wei Wuxian approached, annoyed now. –  You are his husband, and the fool loves you so much!  –  he huffed.  –  He is pining for you, although I am not too sure I can see why! Aren't you supposed to take care of him?

- Master Wei...  -  Zewu-Jun started weakly. The words of his brother-in-law were stabbing his heart like knives.  –  He needs someone... better than me. I... I can't.  –  he murmured, on the brink of tears.

- What does that even mean?!  –  Wei Wuxian cried. –  Aren't you the strongest cultivator in the country? Or are his feeling for you just some kind of joke to you?!

Zewu-Jun looked up, shocked, just to see that Wei Qianbei was ready to hit him, no matter what the consequences would be.

- A joke...?  –  he whispered.  – He is the love of my life... He is the most precious thing I have ever touched... And I am losing him...  -  his voice was breaking badly and he hid his face in his hands, sobbing awfully.

- Pretty words, Zewu-Jun.  –  Wei Wuxian scolded.  –  Your actions are different, somehow? Why is my brother sleeping apart from you, in a remote room, like a servant?  –  he hissed.

The sobs got worse  –  Lan Xichen could not speak, and he had to wait a little till he calmed down.

- It was his wish. I have never denied him anything.  –  he whimpered.  –  It broke my heart. But I understand... I understand why he wouldn't want to be with me... I am... He deserves better...

Wei Wuxian was watching and listening, confused. He didn't know who to blame any more.

- I am  –  obviously!  –  stupid, and do not understand. What is happening with you two?  –  he mumbled.  –  I thought you two loved each other.

- I love him... I love him so much it hurts...  -  Lan Huan whispered.  –  But he is slipping away... I am losing him... I failed him... He shouldn't agree to be with me any more... He must be safe... Him and the baby...

- What nonsense is that, Zewu-Jun?  –  Wei Wuxian was gaping, barely able to figure out the words.  –  I am not sure what the problem is, but I know for sure that you two must talk about it! Just saying nothing and suffering in silence is childish and stupid!  –  he puffed.

Lan Xichen shook his head sadly.

- It's too late. He's gone. I lost him.
