CW: mentions of bullying
Virgil adjusted the backpack straps as he walked to the bus, his shoulders aching from carrying the heavy bag. Luckily the only time anyone had beat him up today was when they cornered him in the bathroom, so he had no new bruises. Well, that was thanks to Roman actually. He was sure he would have a giant one on his nose by now if it weren't for him, and Delores had enough to worry about.
"Hey you!" a voice shouted, making Virgil sigh heavily. He had hoped to reach the bus before anything happened, but apparently not.
A hand grabbed his shoulder and Roman growled loudly. Thankfully the kid let go of Virgil's shoulder the moment he turned to them. Unfortunately, Virgil recognized the two kids there.
"Hey, Cecil asked you out yesterday, right?" the one who had called asked. "Do you know where he is? He wasn't here today and we haven't heard from him."
"Oh," Virgil said, paling slightly. "U-um, no. Our date didn't go well and I went home early. S-sorry, I haven't seen him, I hope he's okay."
"Thanks anyway," the other kid sighed, and Virgil nodded.
He quickly turned around and walked away as fast as he could, trying not to seem awkward. He held his arm to avoid a shiver as he tried not to think about him being connected to the disappearance. He hadn't even thought of that...
"They saw me," Roman said.
"What?" Virgil hissed, a cold feeling washing over him.
"One of the kids, he saw me. It was fast, but I still caught it." Roman glared back at where the kids were, but they were already gone.
"Maybe something caught his eye over my shoulder?" It sounded like Virgil was trying to convince himself.
"I don't like them. They're dangerous. There are quite a few kids here who are dangerous, not just the bullies."
Virgil shook his head. "Don't be paranoid."
"Paranoid people stay alive."
The human sighed as he got on the bus, heading to the back seat. Roman had to hold back a growl, since they were surrounded by other kids that meant the conversation was over.
He sat down in the spot next to Virgil, waving his hand to summon the phone Remus had gotten for him. Virgil looked over from his own phone in curiosity, watching as Roman hesitantly placed his finger on the screen where a fingerprint was.
The demon lit up when the phone automatically unlocked. "Curious, what is this magic?"
Virgil snorted quietly, going into his notes app. He typed, "It's not magic, it's an electronic."
Roman frowned. "What's the difference? What's an electronic?"
Sighing, Virgil typed out. "It's new technology, one that uses electricity to power it. I don't know how to explain it, I'm sure your brother could explain better."
"So what can I do with a phone? Other than using it as a torch?"
Virgil fought down a laugh and typed out. "Did Remus give you the phone's number?"
"Number?"
"Nevermind, just click that icon that says contacts."
Roman frowned but did so, clicking an orange button. His eyes widened when the screen changed completely. "Now what?"
"Click the + button." The demon did so and frowned at the new screen. "Type my name where it says name, and then on 'phone' put in this number."
The demon frowned as he clicked name, and brightened up once again when he saw the keypad show up like on Virgil's. He quickly did so, then on 'phone' he put in the long number Virgil had typed.
