CW: talk of divorce and abandonment
After the first few classes, Virgil was sure Roman was going to excel in all of his classes. He was very productive in all of his classes, never seemed confused, understood everything he was told, and raised his hand and answered the teacher's questions.
He was the perfect student that all teachers would want. Until... history class.
"Now, many considered Francis Drake a pirate. So while he was a hero to England, he was still a villain to Spain. Though, any pirate is a villain, considering the horrible and treacherous things that they had done," the teacher said.
Roman frowned, and Virgil looked over when he stopped taking notes. He raised his hand and waited till the teacher noticed.
"Yes, Roman?"
"Not all pirates were bad. In fact, a lot of them just wanted adventure! Some did horrible things, yes, but at the time everyone did. I feel like you're too quick to judge them," he calmly explained. Virgil had to admit, that surprised him. He didn't expect Roman to talk against a teacher, much less about pirates, though pirates were cool.
"While it's true a lot of people did gruesome things back then, pirates were worse. They were cruel and heartless cut-throats."
"They were not! They had a sense of family! Most had fallen in love with each other! Some had become pirates for religious reasons, others for escape, some for riches, but they weren't heartless cut-throats!"
"Roman," Virgil hissed.
"Young man, if you continue yelling like that I will send you to the office."
Roman crossed his arms and sat back with a growl. Virgil rolled his eyes and hid his head in his arms as other kids giggled at the demon. Well... at least he's not Janus. No doubt he was having a worse time taking care of Remus.
Virgil looked up as the teacher continued with the lessons. He finished copying down some notes before the teacher went onto the next slide, and decided to ask, "What was that about?"
"Sorry, I just can't stand people who bad mouth pirates," Roman growled.
"I get that, but why?"
The demon looked over with a hard to read expression. "I've known many pirates and have been close with some. They were all kind to me, and each other."
Virgil blinked in surprise. "Oh..." Was all he could respond with. He tried to turn back to the teacher as the lesson continued on, but he couldn't focus. He kept imagining Roman on a pirate ship, or possibly dating a pirate.
It made sense. Pirates were filled with adventure and joy, and if they were so kind to him then of course Roman would want to be in a relationship. He hadn't really thought about that... How many relationships has Roman had? How many people had he been contracted to?
Virgil wondered... if when he dies would Roman remember him? Would he even care after a few years? Or would he move on? Everyone seems to move on so easily from him... His parents did after all.
Well, that would only happen if Virgil didn't kill the demon first. He still needed to get his hands on some kind of holy or damned weapon, that was the first thing he needed to do. Technically... the first thing he needed to do was listen to the teacher.

"Dang, lunch is later than I had thought it would be," Roman complained as he and Virgil walked down the hall.
"Time moves slower in class," Virgil replied. "It's still the same lunch I had the last few days."
Roman pouted. "You must be hungry then."
