CW: blood, gore, slight poisoning
The moment Remus left with the kids, boards on one of the windows broke and demons poured through. Janus ran to Virgil, standing next to him so they could fight together.
"Why are there so many?" Virgil growled as he slashed at a demon, cutting it across the face.
Janus stabbed another in the head, tossing it away before the body burst into ash. "Just keep fighting. Roman! Can you use your magic?"
Roman kicked a demon back before trying to lift the broken boards back into place. "No, it's gone!"
"Shit, then we have to wait for Remus."
"We need to get somewhere safe first, we can't just wait it out," Virgil said. Just as he did, the boards on another window broke and demons fell in.
Roman growled and gave up on trying to keep them out, trying to get back to Virgil and Janus. However, demons went to attack him as he did. He only had his bow in hand, his claws weren't out, making it incredibly difficult to fight.
Virgil wasn't paying attention to his crutches and felt it pulled out underneath him. He pointed his knife away from himself as he hit the ground. He looked over and saw a small imp had stolen the crutch.
Janus stabbed it, only for another imp to jump on his back. Virgil pushed himself up just enough to grab the imp. He pulled it down and stabbed it in the chest as Janus slashed at another demon that tried to grab Virgil.
"Roman!" Virgil called, looking up to see the demon was caught in a struggle with several other demons. Most were imps, but a few seemed more powerful than a normal imp. He was only able to glance at Virgil for a moment before moving away from a demon's claw, getting cut on the cheek.
"Virgil!" Janus warned, grabbing the god by his shirt and pulling him back. His hair was becoming white again, and one of his eyes had reverted back to how it was before.
The demons tried to grab them, Virgil stabbed one but the demon didn't turn to ash in time. One grabbed his free hand and he panicked, trying to push it away. There was a spark and the demon was sent flying after it was hit by the purple lightning.
It got up and ran away, jumping back out the window. Oh right, he's a god of fear now... He has other ways of fighting than just his knife.
He held his hand out as another demon ran at him, focusing on his magic. He felt it run down his arm, his hair standing on end before another flash of lightning filled the room. It hit a demon Roman was fighting, the prince blinking in surprise.
"It worked!" Virgil shouted in joy.
His victory was short-lived since the demons turned to him. He tried to stand as several ran at him, the ones that didn't were too focused on Roman. Virgil's leg ached, but he forced himself to stand.
Janus cut down the first one that jumped at Virgil. One of the stronger demons attacked him after that, and it refused to get stabbed.
Virgil used his power against the rest of the demons, unable to help Janus. There were too many demons in the room to count, and only 3 of them. More demons still filled in from the broken windows, and from the hall.
Janus had gotten better with his dagger, and was winning the fight. However, just as he was about to stab the demon, another one jumped onto his arm. He almost fell down from the weight on his arm, but caught himself just in time. He looked up at the demon in front of him, and his heart stopped.
Roman turned back to Janus and Virgil when he heard a scream. His eyes widened when he saw Janus fall to his knees, holding a hand over his left eye. Red blood was splattered on the floor, more dripped down his cheek.
"Janus!" Virgil shouted as he turned to the witch, electricity hitting the demon that towered over him. He quickly grabbed Janus and pulled him closer, trying to protect him from the demons.
"Fuck it," Roman growled. He hit the demon he was fighting back and ran towards them. Demons tried to get in his way, but he knocked them back, feeling claws scratch at him or fangs pierce his skin.
He picked up Janus's dagger and cut off a demon's head before cutting another in half as he stood above the two boys. Virgil held Janus close as the witch sobbed, trying to stop the blood with both hands now.
His face itched and burned, he wasn't sure if it was from the injury or poison. His head was dizzy and he was going to be sick. He couldn't see out of his other eye because the pain made black dots dance in his vision.
"It's going to be okay, just hang on," Virgil promised, trying to shield him from the fight.
He could see Roman slowing down, making anxiety curl in his gut. Just as he was starting to lose hope, green magic flooded the room and all the demons were blasted away from them.
Virgil turned and saw Remus, almost crying in relief. Remus made eye contact with him, before looking down at Janus. His eyes widened in fear and in a blink of an eye, he was right in front of them.
"Janus, oh my gods," he mumbled, quickly taking Janus from Virgil's arms.
His magic washed over the witch, making him whimper for a moment. He was barely conscious, and was losing blood fast. Remus started healing his injuries as quickly as possible as he sent other demons flying with just a wave of his hand.
He froze for a moment, realizing the poison had been healed. He looked over to Virgil who seemed to be helping Roman fight. Did he do that?
Didn't matter, he had to get Janus out of here.
"Roman!" he called. "I'm taking them to the safe room, come on!"
"I'm trying!" Roman told him, slashing at another demon. Another demon moved too fast, and Virgil gasped when its claws cut into Roman's side. "Fuck!"
"Roman!" Virgil shouted. He turned to Remus and told him, "Go! We're right behind you!"
Remus couldn't waste anymore time and teleported away with Janus in his arms. Virgil carefully stood up again, keeping his back against Roman.
"How do we get them out of here?" he asked.
"I-I don't know," Roman told him.
Virgil frowned. "They're after me, aren't they?"
"Virgil whatever you're planning, don't."
"I'm not going to leave, I'm not going to let them take me away again." He took Roman's hand, squeezing it before letting go. "However I'm not going to let them hurt anyone else again."
He slipped his knife into his pocket and raised both of his hands, letting his magic run down his arms and blasting the demons away. It didn't kill them, but it made them run away in fear.
Virgil turned to see Roman had plenty of demons to fight himself. One of the imps jumped onto the arm that was holding the dagger, pulling it away as another, stronger demon went to attack him. Virgil's heart stopped and he felt his magic flood into the room.
Roman felt it too, finding it overwhelming. However he felt something inside of him break. It wasn't part of him, no, but it was inside of him. It felt like Virgil's power had shattered it, and a new power coursed through him.
Before he knew it, he felt his own magic burst in front of him, the demons around them turning to ash and embers. Roman blinked in surprise, looking down at his hands before making them change into claws. He could use his magic... The curse was broken.
He smiled, laughing a bit. He turned to Virgil with admiration in his eyes. Virgil softened when he saw the joy on his boyfriend's face.
"Thank you, Virgil. Now, let's clean up this mess."
