Roman's chest didn't hurt as bad anymore. It was a dull pain now, nothing like the agonizing sharp pain from before. He didn't feel as weak either, his magic was stronger. Though, his body was heavy and sore.
He blinked his eyes open as he woke up, moving to sit up before he realized something was leaning against him. He turned his head and saw that familiar patterned hoodie slowly rise and fall. Virgil had fallen asleep next to him.
The demon carefully sat up, trying not to move the bed so much, but Virgil tensed and his breath hitched in his sleep. His hand moved to his eyes, rubbing them as he woke up. He opened his eyes and sat up, turning to Roman before freezing once he saw he was awake.
Roman took a breath to say something, but it was caught in his throat. Though, it didn't matter since Virgil threw his arms around him and they both fell back onto the bed. Roman couldn't help but blink in surprise, before he slowly hugged Virgil back.
"Thank you," Virgil murmured, tears squeezing out of his eyes. "Thank you for waking up."
"Virgil?" Roman softly asked.
"I was so scared."
The demon held him tighter. "Are you okay?"
Virgil nodded. "I am now that you're awake."
Roman used his magic to look for any injuries on Virgil, finding none. But he was still sad... His soul was heavier with misery. What happened while he was asleep?
"I'm sorry I wasn't here for you," he told the human.
"You didn't have t-to-" Virgil cut himself off before he could start crying.
Roman tried to sit up, only able to get himself and Virgil against the headboard. "What happened, what's wrong?"
"I-I just... I was s-so worried you w-weren't going to wake up."
"You were worried about me?"
Virgil pulled away and Roman's heart hurt over the tears dripping down his cheeks. "You- Remus s-said you wouldn't wake up f-for a few days, an-and you got hurt because of me. He d-didn't say that b-but..."
"I'm-I'm going to be okay." Roman reached out and wiped away Virgil's tears. He wasn't wearing his makeup, which was an odd sight. "You don't need to worry about me... too much." He hated that he couldn't lie to comfort Virgil.
Virgil leaned into his hand. "You worry about me. I just don't want you to get hurt."
"It's my job to worry about you."
Virgil tried to ignore the gut wrenching ache that hurt his heart. He had to remind himself that's the only reason Roman cared. He was a job, nothing more. "I'm going to w-worry," he whispered, more hot tears running down his face.
"I'm a demon, I'm going to be fine. I told you, breaking another command won't kill me. It just hurt like Hell," Roman dramatically groaned, though there was a smile on his face as he leaned his head back, closing his eyes.
Virgil didn't smile though. "I'm sorry I got in the way. And I'm sorry about the command."
Roman's eyes shot open again. "You didn't- Virgil you didn't do anything wrong! The curse got in the way, not you!"
Virgil bit his tongue to fight back more tears as they welled up in his eyes. "I-"
"You're not to blame for what happened back there. You got hurt too! I don't know how many days have passed but... I'm guessing Remus had helped?" Virgil nodded, wiping his tears away. "I'll have to thank him later, I guess I owe him. But first I want to take care of you. Is there anything you need?"
