Janus was able to ignore Remus tapping his fingers on the table, the demon often did it when he was bored. He was able to ignore the demon looking around, though he did so tensely. And he was able to ignore Remus chewing on his nails, another thing the demon did often.
However, once Remus started to bounce his leg, Janus knew it was a clear sign he was anxious. He only ever did that when he was nervous about something. Everything else, Janus has learned, were normal habits of the demon's.
"Remus," he sighed as they walked to class, though Janus walked slower than usual. "Is everything okay, dear?"
Remus stiffened again. "Um, well..." The demon cursed at whoever decided demons couldn't lie to their masters. He couldn't even say 'don't worry about it' because Janus should worry about it, Remus just didn't want him to.
"You're stressed out, I can tell. Do you want to skip the rest of school?" Janus took his hand, and if the demon weren't freaking out so much he would have melted from how soft Janus was at the moment.
"Aw, I thought you were a goody two shoes like Virgin," Remus teased. "Though, if my brother had the balls, he wouldn't be a virgin anymore."
"You're deflecting dear. Do you want to skip school or stay here?"
Remus was quiet for a moment before saying, "I wanna skip."
"Then take me to the park, the one that has the dog park next to the children's playground. And our old hiding spot in the trees and bushes."
"Oh it's been so long since we've been there! Okay!" Remus pulled Janus to the bathroom, out of sight from everyone else. Once they were sure no one could see them, the demon teleported them away.
Janus smiled at the feeling of the cool hair on his skin. He took Remus's hand and started pulling the demon along. "Let's just enjoy ourselves for now, okay?"
"Our old hideout is probably messed up," Remus sighed.
"Then we can fix it, make it better." They walked by the creek that ran through the park. It looped around the fenced off area that was the dog park, where there were only a handful of dogs at the moment. All cute nonetheless.
The children's playground wasn't too far from the dog park, but it was still in the opposite direction from their hangout. Janus looked around the stream, looking for a certain part. He smiled when he saw it, hopping over to a small patch of land in the middle of the stream.
Remus followed him across the stream, and they continued until they reached a sewer tube that had a gate covering it. The hideout wasn't in the sewer tube, thank goodness. It was next to it. Janus was just thankful it didn't smell, and it didn't actually lead to the sewers, it was just a tunnel that the stream disappeared into.
Janus frowned at the trash that had surrounded their hiding spot. The cushions they had stolen from a thrown out couch had holes and mold on it, making the witch sigh in disappointment. The old tattered blanket that was thrown over the dead tree had torn more since they last saw it, and was now hanging sadly from a single branch.
Remus bit his thumbnail before shrugging and walking over. He picked up an old styrofoam cup that was caught in some rocks in the stream and took a bite out of it. "Well, looks like we have some cleaning up to do."
"If you eat all the trash here, you're not getting any kisses," Janus warned, walking over.
Remus gasped dramatically, "You wouldn't dare deprive me of my kisses!"
Janus picked up the corner of some sort of empty wrapper. "Then don't eat the trash, just help me clean it up."
"Yay! Clean up time!" Remus ran over and took the empty wrapper from Janus's hand, before running around the rest of the area and picking up the trash. He waved his hand and the small trash pile he had collected teleported over to the trash can that was closer to the dog park and playground.
Janus walked over to the hideout themselves, lightly kicking one of the couch cushions. He jumped back as a giant spider ran out from underneath it, backing away. "Ew, spiders."
"Hey! They're a delicacy in some places!" Remus said.
Janus just hummed in response, looking around. "This place is a lot less... well just a lot less than I remembered."
"We can make it better though! Hold on!" Remus shapeshifted into a giant black dog, and it took Janus a moment to realize he was a newfie. He ran off and sniffed around, making Janus frown in confusion.
The giant dog came back holding a bunch of sticks. He dropped them in front of the hideout before prancing over to Janus and bumping his head against the witch's chest.
"Yes yes, you're adorable," Janus told him, scratching his ears.
The black newfie huffed and stepped away, shifting back to Remus. "Okay, let's fix up this area! No more mess!"
He let his green magic spread out, picking up the sticks and the sheet that was tangled on the dead tree. The material of the sheet shifted and changed shape, stretching all over the branches and holding up the sticks as a pattern was made out of it all. The branches were placed around the cushions and either stuck in the mud or were tied down by what was the sheet.
Then Remus picked up the cushions, using his magic to clean them out and fix any holes. He fluffed them as best as he could before putting them back where they were with a satisfied smile.
"There we go!" he said, grabbing Janus's hand. They crawled into the little space, sitting on the comfy cushions.
"This would be a spider's paradise," Janus laughed, looking around.
"Maybe, but for now it's ours."
Janus took Remus's hands, looking at him. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." He kissed the demon's knuckles.
"Oh- uh- well, I..." Remus stuttered, his face slowly turning red. He whined and deflated into himself.
Janus laughed, only flustering Remus more. "You're soft when you want to be, dear."
"Stop, I'm not soft!"
"You were a giant puppy earlier. An absolutely adorable, giant, black puppy. You're a softy no matter what."
"Fuck off..."
Janus pulled Remus closer. "How about I kiss you instead?" Remus whined and mumbled out empty curses at Janus, making the witch laugh before kissing his cheek. "You're so easy to fluster."
"You're an asshole."
Janus pulled Remus closer and laid down, cuddling him. "Yeah, but I'm you're asshole."
"And yet you won't fuck me."
"No, wait till we're older."
"I know I know, I'll be a patient demon. You just don't die until then."
Janus kisses Remus's head. "I'm not planning on it."
The demon whined more. "Jerk..."
Janus was going to reply but his phone went off. He groaned but reached into his back pocket and grabbed it.
"Oh shit," he cursed, sitting up.
"What?" Remus asked. He looked at the phone and saw Remy's icon. "Oh..."
Janus answered the phone and put it to his ear. "Yes?"
"Are you okay?! Where are you?!" Remy went off. "I got a call that you're not at school? That you're absent for one of your classes? What happened?"
"Oh, well, uh... Remus and I decided to skip," Janus answered. "We're at a park."
"Oh thank the gods you're safe. If you're going to skip school, tell us. Now come home! You're both in big trouble!"
"Did he just say we're both in trouble? I'm a fucking demon, what did he expect?" Remus whispered.
"But Patton and Virgil are at the house!" Janus whined. "And we're not in any danger!"
"Janus Donella, come home," Remy warned. "I'm on my way, and I swear to Hypnos if you're not there when I get home, you'll be grounded for a week."
"Ooh, daddy's angry," Remus teased. "He used your full name."
"Yes Dr. Emile," Janus sighed. "Remus, just teleport us to my room."
"Fine, what a buzzkill."
