CW: self deprecating, implied deaths
Patton and Logan were swaddled up in blankets on the couch as Emile flipped through channel after channel. They were all emergency broadcasts, different news stations showing different areas of the world. Chaos was everywhere, and everyone can definitely see the demons now.
"Dammit," Emile cursed.
"That's so many people," Patton whispered numbly, though they all heard him. Remy, Remus, and Janus weren't there since they went to put up protection spells, so it was just them and Roman.
"I know, but they'll have to fend for themselves. I just feel bad for any witches who were disconnected from their gods by all this."
"So the gods can't help?" Logan asked.
"Maybe they could, but they probably won't bother," Roman mumbled. "Aga... Alice cut off connection. That was it. They can still come down here."
"What about the Christain god?" Patton asked.
"Probably too busy trying to accommodate a flood of souls right now. So many demons have been attacking them... I'm sure some souls have escaped from the demon's grasps."
"Escaped?"
"Roman," Emile warned. "You're scaring them."
The demon's eyes squinted and he curled up in himself more. He didn't say anything else, making the therapist sigh. He muted the TV and walked over to the couch.
"Look, everything is really scary right now. People are terrified, and yes some people have already lost their lives. It's an apocalypse and there's no telling how long this will last. And... Virgil isn't with us right now."
Roman whimpered. "I can't f-feel him. The connection is gone."
"I know, it was your job to protect him."
"I failed. I promised him I would protect him and I failed, again! I'm nothing but a failure!"
"It was just too much for you to handle-"
"But I should be able to handle it! I should have been fine! Even with my curse, before I became a prince, I was able to kill a Princess of Hell! I-I should have been able to stop a simple cult!"
"And you would have been able to, but someone would have gotten hurt. You didn't want to risk it."
Roman looked away and closed his eyes against the tears. "Virgil still got hurt. I love him and I let him get stabbed and then kidnapped by a Warden."
"We're going to get him back, but it's going to take time. Just be a bit patient."
Roman bit back what he was going to say. He didn't want to be patient. He couldn't afford to! Virgil was gone, he had been turned immortal and has to face truth that alone, he was hurt and no doubt going to be tortured. It wasn't fair, not to Virgil.
"Okay, the spells are up," Remus said as he walked into the room with Remy, carrying Janus in his arms. "But Janny is out cold, the spells took too much out of him."
Roman got off the couch so Janus could be comfortably laid down. Remus sent him a smile as thanks before setting his human down. He grabbed an extra blanket and set it over the witch.
Remy looked at the TV and frowned. "Shit... that's bad."
Remus looked over and his eyes widened in horror. "The orphanage!"
Roman frowned at the realization, his heart sinking further. If all of this was happening everywhere, then the orphanage would definitely be affected. "We need to do something," he said. Virgil would want them to do something. Maybe they can't save him right now, but they can save the people in the orphanage.
