Patton had to go to work today, and so did all the other adults, so only Virgil, Janus, Remus, and Roman were staying at the house. It was only going to be for a few hours, since Logan only had a two hour class. Still, counting the time it takes to get there and back, that's three hours.
Janus and Remus were playing on the switch in the living room while Virgil continued to rest in bed. Roman was with him, and so was Buttercup just so she wasn't alone.
Roman had shapeshifted into a cat again, taking care of the little kitten. Virgil was sitting up against the headboard and watched the two with a smile. Buttercup was walking around, sniffing in curiosity.
She jumped onto the office chair, about to slip off before Roman ran under her and pushed her up with his head and a concerned meow.
"Gods you're both adorable," Virgil laughed as he watched them. Roman jumped up onto the chair next to Buttercup. He picked her up by the scruff of her neck and looked up at the desk, wanting to jump but finding it hard to do so with Buttercup. "I think she's getting too big, you'd have to shift back."
Roman let out a small growl before letting go of Buttercup, licking the back of her neck to smooth down the disturbed fur. He jumped down from the chair and shifted back to his usual form, dusting himself off.
Buttercup meowed at him, and he picked her up before setting her on the bed in front of Virgil. "There we go," he purred. "You're with our human now."
Virgil reached out to Roman. "You too, come here."
Roman took his hand and leaned down to kiss his forehead. "Of course, love, if you so command." He climbed onto the bed before shifting back into a red cat, purring loudly. He bumped his head into Virgil's side, making him laugh and pet him.
Buttercup meowed in protest, wanting attention herself. Virgil turned to her and scratched under her chin.
"Such a loud kitten, and so needy too," Virgil sighed. "I only have one hand! I can't move my other arm yet."
Roman climbed into Virgil's lap and nuzzled against him. He purred loudly as he kneaded Virgil's thigh.
"Roman!" Virgil laughed, moving his hand away from Buttercup to pick up the demon cat. "That tickles!"
Roman meowed loudly and tried to squirm out of Virgil's hand, but the human just sighed and laid back more. He set Roman on his chest and reached out to Buttercup, pulling her closer.
"I have two precious little kitties."
Roman sniffed Virgil's arm that was still in a sling laying against his chest before licking his hand.
"My shoulder is fine, Roman. The pain is still annoying, but I think it will be okay. Besides, I know you and Remus did everything you could, Janus too."
Roman carefully got up and jumped off of Virgil, landing next to him before growing into his usual form again. "I wish we could have healed more. We were able to heal whatever fractures we could, but the muscle and the bone... it was just too much damage caused by the arrow."
"It's fine, the doctors said that in a few weeks I should be able to start arm exercises to help with the muscles. Besides, I'm not right handed, so it could be a lot worse."
Roman was quiet for a moment before asking, "Why don't I get you something to eat? A small meal, since you didn't eat much for breakfast."
"Oh Roman, you don't have to-"
"Nonsense! I have to take care of you, that's my job. And making sure you eat is part of that job. I'll be right back!"
"Wai-" Virgil tried to say, but Roman teleported away. He sighed in defeat and looked down at Buttercup. "He still feels guilty."
Buttercup blinked at him and meowed.
"I know! He shouldn't feel upset, he didn't shoot me with an arrow."
The kitten purred and stretched an arm out towards Virgil. He laughed and scratched her back, making her close her eyes in delight."
Roman teleported to the kitchen, tugging his sleeves so he could do something with his hands as he tried to think of what he could get Virgil. He looked into the pantry and groaned at the giant walls full of food. There was so much, what could he choose from?
He heard shouting coming from the living room and walked over, finding Remus and Janus playing some racing video game.
"How did you get in first place?" Janus yelled.
"How are you in twelfth?" Remus teased.
Roman frowned. "What are you two playing?"
"Mario Kart," they both answered in unison.
The red demon hummed in response before Remus asked "What are you doing down here? Where's your boyfriend?"
"He's in bed, I just came down here to find something for him to eat since he didn't eat much of breakfast."
"Just get him cereal or something."
"Do we have any cereal?" Janus asked as Roman turned to walk back to the kitchen.
"I don't know. Oh, I think we have cereal bars! Dammit! Blue shell? Seriously?" The demon cursed as his character spun out.
"I love you, dear." Janus smiled widely, his tone telling Roman that he was the one that caused Remus to spin out.
Roman looked back in the pantry, looking for some sort of food bar, very confused. He found a box full of bars wrapped in foil that read "Lucky Charms Cereal Bar" so... that must be it. He did at least recognize the Lucky Charms part, the kids back in the orphanage loved it. Hopefully Virgil did too.
Virgil had leaned his head back and closed his eyes as Buttercup laid against him, purring as he scratched her neck. He smiled when he heard footsteps and looked up to see Roman. The demon had a bowl in his hands, and a hesitant smile.
"So, I-I got you cereal, but uh..." He showed Virgil the bowl, which just had milk and a cereal bar in it. "I um... I thought the bar was supposed to come apart?"
Virgil stifled a laugh, trying his best to fight down a smile. "You-you thought...?"
"I don't know! I mean, Remus told me about bath bombs so I thought it was going to be like that! Though, he only told me about it before eating one himself." Virgil couldn't hold back the laugh any longer, making the demon's face turn red. "You humans are weird! How was I supposed to know?"
"Oh- oh my gods!" Virgil laughed, having to hold his shoulder steady to keep from hurting it. "No! It's like a granola bar!"
"But it's cereal!"
"No!" The human found it hard to stop laughing, his stomach starting to hurt. "Gods, I love you so much, you're like a big old doofus."
"I haven't been here for a while! I don't understand these things."
Virgil forced himself to calm down, now in a very giddy mood. "I'm never letting this go." He smiled and almost started laughing again when Roman pouted. "I'm so glad out of anyone, you're the person that's going to be stuck by my side for the rest of my life."
"I can't believe I fell in love with you," Roman huffed. Though, despite his embarrassment, it was almost worth it to hear Virgil laugh so hard. Almost.
