CW: blood, talk of death
Remus was holding onto Janus's hand as they walked back to their room. Neither wanted to let go, and Janus wanted to get to the bathroom that was connected to the room so he could properly take care of the cut on the demon's nose.
"I really wish I could slap that bitch for that," Janus said. "I hope it doesn't scar."
"I don't know, scars are sexy," Remus replied with a small shimmy of his shoulders. "Plus, I'd rather stab her for the hell she's putting Roman and Virgil through."
"Don't we all," Janus sighed, opening the door now that he reached their room. It was his room, technically, but Remus was with him practically every second of the day so really it was theirs.
Janus turned to close the door, and he turned to walk towards the bathroom, but he was only able to take a few steps before Remus grabbed him into a hug from behind. He froze up on the spot, both confused and worried.
"Remus?" he softly asked, slowly taking the demon's hands.
"I'm-I'm fine. I just need a hug for a moment, is that okay?" Remus mumbled. It was a complete switch from how he was before... Janus should have known he was hiding his pain.
"Is this about the vision you saw when Virgil shocked you?"
"Mhm," Remus hummed with a small nod. "I don't wanna talk about it."
"That's okay, you don't have to. Let's get you to the bathroom though, so we can take care of your cut. Then we can cuddle, does that sound good?"
"It sounds really nice, honestly." Remus's voice cracked a bit on the last word.
Janus took both of his hands as they pulled away. "And you know that nothing is going to hurt me, right? Not as long as you're with me."
"Roman said the same thing about Virgil, and he's stronger than me." Remus looked at the ground.
"Dear, he's cursed too. I know he's strong even without his magic, but he had trouble fighting against a witch and some imps." They walked into the bathroom and Remus sat on the counter as Janus grabbed a towel. "Neither of you were able to stop the cultists when they kidnapped us, that's what led to Virgil being taken by Alice."
"Or the knife he dropped... They probably used that to find him, and us. It had your magic on it, they must have wanted revenge for the cultist that died. I don't want them to hurt you. I don't want anyone to hurt you."
Janus sighed softly as tears formed in the demon's eyes. He turned on the sink faucet and soaked the towel. "I'm not going to get hurt. Even without you, I'm pretty strong. I know plenty of skills, and you and I are working on that weapon for me. Now hold still, this might hurt."
"I can handle a bit of pressure," Remus told him, trying to smile. Janus smiled back at him before starting to wipe away a bit of blood. "I still can't believe Remy let you have that cane, knowing full well what you're going to do."
Janus shrugged. "It's not my style, and it's pretty bland. Except for the blade inside..."
"Do you even know how to fight with a dagger?"
"Not really, but that's why I have an awesome boyfriend to teach me." Janus started dabbing the towel on the cut, it had already started to dry but he wanted to clean it up first. Remus didn't even wince, just leaning into Janus's free hand.
"What did I do to deserve you?"
Janus looked him in the eye. "You saved my life, dumbass."
"You had literally summoned me to do that, of course I did!"
Janus focused on the injury again. "I was just a little kid. I was hiding in my parents room, I could still smell their blood. I can't even remember what you looked like when you first appeared, mostly 'cause you threw a blanket over my head." He set aside the washcloth. "Then when the noises stopped, you moved the blanket aside, and appeared to me as my age. You healed my hand, and told me your name." Janus pulled back his glove, revealing the messy circle that was carved into his hand. "This isn't even the prettiest circle."
Remus took his hand. "Frankly, I don't give a fuck about pretty or messy circles. You were a child when you did this, you had just watched your parents get killed in front of you, and you were hurting yourself in an attempt to summon me as fast as you could. Of course it's not the prettiest. But I don't wanna see another drop of your blood. It terrifies me."
Janus's smile fell. "What are you going to do when I die? I'm only human, after all."
"I'll... worry about that in like eight decades at least. I'm not gonna let you leave me until then."
"You better not leave my side, you hear me? You're stuck with me until death."
"That's just how I like it. Now come on, you promised me cuddles." Remus pouted.
"Hold on you impatient demon, let me get some bandages. You're still bleeding. Gods, you worry about me all day long but you never take care of yourself." Janus pulled out a drawer and grabbed a small box of bandaids. He grabbed a few before putting them across Remus's cut, angling them to avoid his eye.
As he was putting the last bandaid on, Remus cupped his cheek with his hand. He let his thumb run across the scar that had formed from the arrow. "I wish I could have kicked her ass. Pane's, I mean."
"I know, but she's gone now. I have a feeling she's not returning."
"Oh definitely not! She's dead after all, those cultist had to have killed her to get that much blood."
"And they didn't even use that much..."
"She deserved it for hurting you. I have a feeling Roman feels the same way for Virgil. Now come on!" Remus hopped off of the counter. "I want my cuddles."
Janus chuckled, "Okay, what animal do you want to turn into this time?"
"Hmm, oh!" Remus dragged Janus closer to the bed before jumping on. His form changed until he was a silver chinchilla with long, but wrinkled, whiskers.
"Cute." Janus scratched his head softly before sitting down, laying back on his pillow. Remus hopped over and climbed onto his chest, resting as Janus placed a hand on him. "Just don't jump all over me, I wanna take a nap. I have a feeling that the next few days are going to be long..."
