CW: hospital, mild panic attack (it's not too bad, idek if it could be considered one), pain
Remy and Emile had arrived not too long after Virgil woke up. However, Virgil didn't stay awake for too long. He had gotten surgery since his shoulder blade had been shattered by the arrow, and his body was too tired from it all.
They were able to come up with a cover story of what had happened, they said that someone had broken into their house, to explain the broken window, and had kidnapped Virgil. Virgil had managed to escape, but while running he was shot in the shoulder. Janus was on a walk and had seen it happen, and a bullet grazed his cheek. He still managed to grab Virgil and run to safety before calling an ambulance.
Janus explained his part after he had managed to calm down, Remus explaining the cover story. Of course, a police officer had to be present to report it so now an investigation had to be put underway.
Remy and Emile offered Logan and Patton to stay at their place, as well as Virgil when he gets out of the hospital. They said that they were all welcomed to stay for as long as they needed to, and Patton and Logan were both grateful.
While Remus went with Janus once visiting hours were over, Roman stayed by Virgil. He sat down next to him and took Virgil's left hand.
"I'm sorry I let this happen to you, Virgil," he whispered. "I wish I could take the pain away, but I can't this time. I'm not going to give up, I need to make this up to you. I'll protect you better, I swear."
He couldn't help but think about the time he had fallen ill and passed out. Virgil was able to help him then, Roman had fed off of his energy then. It helped him grow strong enough to wake up again.
He didn't want to admit it then, but demons can only do such a thing when they have a strong connection with a human. When they had fallen for one. The human didn't have to feel the same way, but if a demon that loved them had weakened enough, they could feed off of their energy.
Why couldn't it work the other way in return? Why couldn't Roman give Virgil enough energy to heal faster? It wasn't fair, Virgil needed to get better. He had to get better. Roman needed him to.
"I love you, dear. I know I'm not worthy, I don't know if I can be, but I swear I'll try. I'll try to be worthy of you. You deserve the world, and I would find a way to give it to you if you asked. I love you so much... if I could safely make you an immortal I would. I wish I could..."
Virgil frowned as he tried to shift in his sleep, only to make himself whimper in pain. The sound tore at Roman's heart, and he gently squeezed Virgil's hand. "It's alright dear, the pain will go away eventually."
"Ro-Roman?" Virgil whispered, his eyes slowly opening. He blinked as his eyes adjusted to the dark.
"I'm here, Vee, I'm right beside you," Roman cooed. "I'm not going to leave your side."
"A-are we safe?" Virgil asked. The doctors had taken out the breathing tubes so it was easier to talk, but the exhaustion still made it hard.
"Yes, we're safe. Do you know where you're at right now?"
"The ho-hospital... right?"
"That's right." Roman covered Virgil's hand with both of his.
Tears filled up Virgil's eyes. "The-the angels."
"They aren't here, you're safe. I'm not going to leave your side, okay?"
"Don't, please don't go. Please stay," Virgil cried, tears falling down.
As if Roman couldn't feel any more guilty... "Never again, I swear. Are-are you in pain? Can you feel your arm?"
Virgil shook his head, fighting back sobs. "It-it's numb, I do-don't feel it."
