CW: slight body horror (this one is probably always going to be Remus, he and Roman can shapeshift after all)
Delores cut up an apple in the kitchen, the sound of kids laughing coming from the living room as Xander read the youngest an ABC book. He was trying to get Maggie and Victor, two of the youngest who had just started reading, to help him.
"And f is for... What does that word say?" he asked patiently.
"It's a fish!" the kids shouted, pointing at the goldfish picture.
"Is that what the word says?" Xander asked. "I need help here!"
"Yes!" Maggie shouted. "F-I-S and H! Fish!"
"Thank you my little helper." Xander reached out and ruffled her hair, making her giggle.
"You're gonna mess up my hair!" she laughed, pushing his hand away.
Delores smiled at them before hearing a window open, making the smile disappear and be replaced with a firm look as she turned to Janus.
"What did I say about the fire escape?" she scolded.
"I have yet to slip," Janus said, climbing into the kitchen.
"And when you do, you'll get hurt! I don't have a lot of money for hospital bills! And the stairs are easier to use. I just don't get you." Delores slid the apple slices onto a plate before grabbing carrots that she had already peeled.
"You have 18 kids to take care of, no one here would blame you if you didn't 'get' everyone of us." Janus grabbed the lock on the pantry, putting in the combination.
Delores sighed, "Don't get a big snack, dinner is in an hour."
"I know," Janus said as he stuffed his jacket with snacks.
The doorbell rang, making Delores jump for a moment. She put down her knife and told Xander, "I'll get it."
Xander nodded before focusing on the kids again.
"Wonder who's here this time," Remus commented to Janus.
The witch shrugged, "Could be Virgil's possible parents, or maybe even another couple looking for a kid."
"I wanna see who it is! Whoever they are, they have a powerful energy, I wanna see what that's about. Besides, Delores did tell you to stop using the fire escape."
"You're just a nosy little demon, aren't you?"
"Yes, now let's go!" Remus pushed Janus out of the kitchen, heading towards the stairs that were in front of the door.
Delores answered, putting on a big smile. There were two men there, one wearing a pink button up shirt with a bracelet that had Steven Universe charms on it. He wore glasses with a thick brown frame.
The other man wore sunglasses, a dark gray light jacket over a white shirt, both tucked into black pants. He had small black gauges and a golden nose piercing.
"Oh that one's cool!" Remus commented as Janus walked over to the staircase. "Maybe I should get some piercings."
"Hello! I'm Delores, can I help you?" she asked.
"Hi! I'm Dr. Picani, but you can call me Emile. This is my husband, Remy!" the one in with the pink shirt said.
"We're looking to adopt a kid," Remy told her. Behind his sunglasses, he glanced at both Janus and Remus.
"Well, we currently have 17 different kids that you can talk to, and think about adopting. Is there a certain age group you're looking for? Or gender, maybe something else?"
