CW: blood, poisoning, negative/self deprecating thoughts
The first thing Remus heard when he teleported to where he felt his brother's concerningly small presence was the sound of sobbing. It... didn't take long to find where it was coming from.
"R-Roman!" Virgil cried, shaking the demon by the arm. "Please w-wake up!"
Remus stepped on the cultist to get to them, one of them was definitely dead but he couldn't tell if the other one was. He rushed over to their side, noticing how pale Virgil was and his bleeding leg. Though, his main focus was on his unconscious brother.
First thing first, it was obvious Virgil was in immense pain considering the fact he wasn't even sitting up. And guessing from the smell of burned demon, those cuts on his legs weren't normal. No wonder he barely looked conscious.
"Hey, it-it's going to be okay, Virgil," he told him, glad Janus wasn't there and he wasn't speaking to him. He put his hand on the human's shoulder, making him flinch hard before groaning in pain.
Remus quickly pulled his hand away, hesitating before letting his hand hover over Virgil's injuries. Green mist covered his leg, healing the cuts and venom painfully slow. Remus still didn't stop until there was nothing left to heal.
Virgil tried to push himself up on shaky arms, his eyes never leaving Roman. He reached for the demon but the arm holding him up collapsed and he fell back to the ground.
"Stay down, your body is exhausted," Remus told him, already moving towards Roman. He pushed his brother onto his back, checking him for any injuries. He healed the cuts on him, knowing he didn't have enough magic to heal the venom himself.
"Roman...?"
"He's alive," Remus told Virgil, and relief filled the human's face for a moment before concern replaced it. "What happened?"
Virgil tried to push himself at least on his elbows. "The... the cultists attacked. The Red Tails I think? R-Roman couldn't use his magic I think, he-he told me about his curse-"
"He told you about that?"
"I-I found out a-about what hap-happened to those he was cont-t-tracted to in th-the past." Virgil tried to wipe his tears away, but they kept spilling down his cheeks. "I-it doesn't matter now! He killed the cultist, going ag-gainst one of my old commands! I f-forgot about it!"
"Shit, that's what happened? Okay, hold on, let's get you out of here." Remus picked up Roman, throwing him over his shoulder before picking up Virgil by the waist. He stood up and Virgil quickly grabbed his arm and shirt to keep from falling.
Remus teleported back to the orphanage, straight to Virgil's room. He dropped Virgil onto his own bed, before carrying Roman and carefully lowering him into the spare bed. He used his magic to pull the blanket back, and then immediately over Roman when he was down on the bed.
His brother was still pale, and his magic was weak, but now that he was unharmed he can start getting better. This wasn't the first time either of the twins had broken a command and became this ill.
Virgil was still trying to get up, but he kept getting light headed. Remus turned to him and when he noticed his struggles, pushed him back into the bed.
"Stay down! You're only going to get hurt!" Remus warned. "And while my brother is like that, I have to take responsibility to take care of you, because if I don't then when he wakes up he'll only hurt himself with worry!"
"B-but..." Virgil looked over to Roman, tears filling his eyes again.
Remus groaned, using his magic to pick up Virgil who squeaked in surprise. However he didn't complain as the demon brought him to Roman, laying him down next to him. Instantly the human latched onto him, digging his face into Roman's arm and holding onto him tight. Remus's face softened, feeling the pain Virgil was in.
"Just stay there, I need to get Janus."
Virgil didn't respond, he couldn't without risking himself breaking into tears. The room was silent and he was sure Remus had already left, but it didn't matter to him.
If only he hadn't given Roman that stupid command. He didn't think about last option chances. Roman knew that it would hurt him, but he still did it. He could have just let Virgil die, it would have been easier. He would have gotten a sad soul from it, and wouldn't be unconscious.
"You should have fucking left me to die, I just got in the way," Virgil mumbled. "I'm not worth it."
He really wasn't. Sure Roman's safety had crossed his mind when he learned about his curse, but he figured that since Roman was still alive after so long that he would be fine. Virgil had forgotten how protective the demon was of him, he just didn't understand it either. It didn't matter that they were contracted, Roman shouldn't have to put Virgil's life over his own.
"Don't die Roman, please don't leave me."

"He's breathing just fine," Janus said.
Virgil sat numbly, it had taken a while to convince him to let go of Roman as the realization that they were just attacked by cultists hit him. It had really happened, it felt like a fever dream. He almost died, Roman is hurt and could die!
"He should be fine, he just needs to sleep this off," Remus told Virgil.
"How long?" Virgil asked with a quiet voice, making Janus and Remus share a concerned look.
"Maybe a few days, at most. But he's strong, he'll wake up."
Virgil nodded, his eyes drifting down and staring at nothing.
Janus rubbed his arm before stepping closer to Virgil. "What about you, Remus told me your leg was cut up. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"Imp's might be low level, but their claws are poisonous. Remus said he healed what he could, but no doubt you must be tired."
"I'll be okay."
The witch sighed in defeat. "Okay. Be sure to get something to eat later, you don't want Roman worrying when he wakes up. And get to bed early. Maybe tomorrow you can tell Delores that you don't feel well and you can skip school."
"Okay..."
Janus glanced at Remus before looking back at Virgil. "Take care, Virgil," he said before leaving the room.
Remus stayed for a moment longer. "Don't beat yourself up over this, Roman chose to do what he did. Protecting you will always be his first priority."
Virgil bit his tongue and nodded. He didn't want his safety to be Roman's first priority if it meant he got hurt. And he... he didn't want to lose Roman. He couldn't stand the idea of it. It's only been a little over a week, but Roman and he had gotten close. Roman was his friend, he didn't want to lose his friend.
