The ride wasn't too long, but it was enough to make Virgil almost fall asleep. They were still in the same county, so Virgil would still go to his old school and finish his senior year.
Virgil cracked his eyes open when he felt the come to a stop, seeing they were stopping at a stop sign in a neighborhood. He opened his eyes all the way when he saw that every house in the neighborhood were two story houses. He looked around more, seeing houses that were both gray and white.
It seemed to be a big neighborhood, and it gave him Deja vu from the days he was in foster homes. Going from neighborhood to neighborhood. But he wasn't going to a foster home now... he was going to a permanent home. As long as Logan and Patton still want to adopt him... This was his last chance.
He grabbed Roman's hand, making the demon look over to him as he continued to stare out the window. He felt his hand squeezed back softly and sighed, relaxing slightly. Roman smiled when he saw the tension leave Virgil's shoulders.
Logan turned the car down a street and continued to drive slowly. Virgil looked from house to house, telling himself that one of the houses will be his home. Home. A family. This was real... it didn't feel real. None of this felt real. His heart was pounding in his chest as the car continued to roll, until it slowed down.
He squeezed Roman's hand tighter as the car turned into a driveway. The house was so big... It was smaller than the orphanage, obviously, but still... Was it going to be just the three of them? Is there someone else that lives there? This was all so real suddenly, and it was happening so fast.
"Okay, we're here," Logan said, parking and turning off the engine.
"Are you ready, kiddo?" Patton asked, turning around as he unbuckled himself.
Virgil nodded, "Yeah... I-I think so..."
"Yay! You got this! Welcome home."
Home...
This was his home.
Virgil couldn't stop the tears as he unbuckled himself with shaky hands. He felt so numb, but so overwhelmed at the same time.
He got out of the car on shaky legs, closing the door behind him as Patton and Logan got out. Virgil couldn't take his eyes off of the house in front of him. He couldn't imagine what could be inside... Maybe a bookshelf? Couches, and a living room with a TV? Anything could be in there.
Patton turned to face him, and his giant smile turned into a sad one. "Oh kiddo..." he softly sighed. "Do you want another hug?"
Virgil tried to press his lips together to keep from crying harder as he nodded, quickly ducking into a hug and holding Patton tight. He let out a sob as more tears came rolling down his face, Patton rubbing his back.
"Shh, it's going to be okay, take as long as you need," Patton cooed.
"I'll bring your things inside," Logan offered, walking to the trunk. As he passed Virgil, he put his hand on his shoulder and gave him a reassuring squeeze. "We hope you like it here."
"You got this, Virge," Roman told him. "It's a new home, just take it slow."
Virgil pulled away from the hug and wiped away his tears. "I... thank you."
"No problem, now let's get you inside." Patton kept his hand on Virgil's back as he led him inside, and although Virgil wasn't big on touching, it was comforting.
Roman felt a chill up his spin, but pretended to ignore it for now. He had time to take care of it, he wanted to be there for Virgil.
The inside wasn't small, the dining room was close to the door, and there was a kitchen further in. Next to the kitchen was a couch set and a TV that was hooked to the wall. It was definitely fancier than the orphanage.
On the other side from the dining room was the stairs, but Virgil didn't go upstairs just yet.
"Why don't we give you a tour?" Logan suggested.
"Y-yeah, that sounds nice," Virgil agreed.
Roman looked over his shoulder and said. "You do that, I need to check on something real quick."
Virgil sent him a curious look, playing off as him just looking around, but gave the smallest nod. Roman gave him a reassuring smile before teleporting away.
The first thing Roman saw was the bow and arrow pointed in his direction. He quickly moved out of the way, the arrow just barely grazing his hair. He rolled his eyes and gave the angel in front of him a dark glare.
"Want to try that again?" he asked.
The angel took a deep breath, a frown on his face. It wasn't a powerful angel, and it definitely doesn't seem like he came here to fight. However he kept his bow in front of him, ready to pull another arrow.
Angel's were fast, and while Roman wouldn't be able to stop him from shooting another arrow, he can sure as hell dodge every single one. So before any fight starts, and he loses his magic, Roman sharpened his claws. Of course it made the angel tense up, and he grabbed the empty string, but didn't yet summon another arrow.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" Roman asked.
"I can ask you the same thing," the angel replied. But with one quick glare from Roman, the angel's resolve weakened. "I am Anthony, I was sent down to this town since we have felt the presence of not only several imps, but a duke and now a prince. However, if we had known it was the weak cursed prince, then there wouldn't have been much cause for alarm."
Roman let the cocky insult roll off his back, far too used to hearing them. "You do realize that there's not one, but two cults here? The imps are caused by them, and both are trying to summon two different wardens."
"We know, however, we can only deal with the imps. We cannot stop those humans, and for now it seems they're only capable of summoning imps. Besides, it's impossible to summon wardens, they lost their last chance centuries ago. Though, I don't expect you to realize this since you and your brother were only a few centuries old yourself. So we do not care. We only started caring now because of your presence alongside the duke."
"Hold on now, you claim to be older than me and yet you're more reckless. Do you know how a ritual for summoning wardens is done? What is needed, who needs to be sacrificed?"
"I'm aware, however I doubt their tiny imps can even put a scratch on me, much less an archangel. Unlike yourself, dear cursed one."
Roman growled lowly. "If you dare to stay here, then I suggest you not let your guard down. My mission is to protect my human, nothing more. The longer you stay, the more you will realize this. Get in my way, and we'll see just how strong you are. I've fought against a Princess of Hell before and won, even with this curse."
"You-you had your brother's help," the angel stated, though his voice was shaky.
"Then it's a good thing he's here in town. Stay out of my way, and don't lay a finger on my human. Because if you touch my human, there's no way in Hell you're getting back to Heaven."
