CW: kidnapping, mild panic attack
Roman refused to leave Virgil's side. The moment he felt the presence of the archangel in town, he stayed with his human on high alert. He hadn't let his guard down, staying as close to Virgil as possible.
The presence was annoyingly strong, they could be anywhere in town or right outside of the house and Roman wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Worse yet... the presence was strong enough to hide the presence of the other angels.
The night before, while Roman and Remus were texting back and forth about the situation, Roman had sat on Virgil's bed as the human slept. Or... tried to anyway. Roman had to use his magic to help him sleep.
Of course as soon as Roman had felt the presence Virgil knew, considering Roman started growling and clung onto him. Virgil wouldn't tell anyone, but he was able to feel the demon trembling slightly.
It was Sunday, so Logan and Patton weren't home. They were at church at the moment, and wouldn't be home for another hour. The first Sunday that Virgil lived with them, they had asked if he wanted to go, telling him he didn't have to. Virgil had said no, and they both had respected his decision and hadn't asked since.
It was a good thing he wasn't with them, since Roman wouldn't have been able to comfortably follow, and they can't separate. Not now. Not until the threat passes. They had done something to anger the angels.
Virgil figured it was probably him, when the angel had talked to him. Or maybe they just got tired of waiting for the demons to slip up. Clearly the idea of two powerful demons being in the same place on Earth rattled the angels.
Virgil had put on a movie to distract himself. He sat on the couch, and Roman was next to him. They were holding hands so Roman was close enough to protect Virgil if he needed to. Plus... it just calmed both of them.
The human was playing with his hoodie string, wrapping it around his finger and just fidgeting with it. He kept glancing at the windows and doors, as if the angels just couldn't teleport in.
Roman pulled out his phone and sent a quick message to Remus, asking if he was fine. His brother only took a few seconds to respond. The angels haven't done anything yet, he didn't know if that was a good or bad thing. It was ominous as fuck.
"Nothing has happened yet?" Virgil asked, looking over to the demon.
"No, not yet. I don't believe Remus has even seen the archangel yet," Roman replied. "A fight with an archangel will be tough, if it comes to that. We'll just have to hope all they're here to do is watch over us, using their presence to mask the other angel's movements."
"I don't like it. I don't like any of this. It feels like they're watching us, waiting for us to let our guard down." Virgil squeezed Roman's hand tighter.
"I'm not going to let them hurt us, don't worry."
Virgil couldn't help but think about the angel's warning 'thing's happen, child.' She was wrong, Roman could protect him. He could...
Virgil slid his hand into his coat pocket and grabbed his knife. He wouldn't be able to do much, but he would still try if it meant he and Roman can survive a fight with the angels. They've been training together, he's gotten better, he has a chance.
"I wish Remus and Janus were here," Virgil mumbled. There was strength in numbers.
"I know, but they're at their new home now, with Remy and Emile. Those two probably have some way of protecting them, hopefully." The demon ran his thumb over Virgil's knuckles. "And I'm here to protect you. I won't let anyone touch a hair on your head, I promise, you're safe with me."
