Project 863 - The Mystery

~Chapter 31~

The next day rolled around as River arrived at her shared apartment with Woods with breakfast for the two of them. After the events of yesterday, she wasn't able to sleep that well, she was constantly thinking about who was in the recording, who knew where they lived, things like that. When she went inside their apartment she saw that Woods was already dressed for the day as she figured it was for when he was planning to head into the studio. He had explained to Rose that he and River would come by the studio to be able to get their things to be officially done so River was on board with that. After she gave him his food the two sat at the table eating before he spoke. "So the plan today, get our things, say our goodbyes, and leave," Woods explained looking at her as she nodded while they continued to eat their food before deciding to head into the studio. 

When the two arrived at the studio they saw Matthias heading over to them as they both got out of the car while he walked over to them. "Do you mind?" Matthias asked holding up the mic packs once more as Woods shook his head looking at him as he spoke. "There's no need for that," Woods responded as Matthias nodded looking at him as he responded to him. "I know there's no need for it, it's not about me though. We've got the whole crew. Come on, everyone wants to say bye. Do it for them." Matthias spoke holding the mic pack as they sighed taking it from him the two put their mics on before going into the studio as everyone yelled in surprise as River looked around. She was able to see that the studio was decorated nicely as Woods went to hug everyone as River stood off to the side, watching everything as Matthias explained what they did for the two of them before they read the card that was made for them before going to eat the food as Matthias decided to pull the two of them off to the side to not make it uncomfortable as he spoke. 

"How about you give it another shot," Matthias spoke to the two of them as they looked at him. "Give what another shot?" Woods responded curiously as Matthias stood there looking back at him as he spoke. "Just about like not quitting, we should finish this out," Matthias explained as River shook her head looking at him. "You don't get it, Matt, you guys have been trying to finish it for two years." River spoke as Woods nodded agreeing with her before bringing up how it was too close to home as Matthias nodded. "I understand that, it's already connected to both of you so leaving won't solve a thing. We need to find out why it leads to the apartment." Matthias responded as Woods was about to respond before seeing Sam as he said hi to her, earning a sorry in response from her as Woods decided to respond. "I'm under the impression it said my name because I'm here with you guys." Woods explained as Matthias nodded before sighing, "I don't know that, this is my only lead. How about this, you finish it out, help us follow the lead out, and instead of you quitting I'll terminate both of you so you get three months severance, three months pay. I need an answer now though." 

"Like promising as that sounds I don't like how long it has been going on and how long it might take, we could be here for another year or two, and then what? In the period, something else could happen, another threat could appear. I advise you guys to leave, I know you won't like it, I know it's cowardly but-" Woods responded looking at him as Matthias cut him off, responding to him. "I think it might be connected to us not this place and that is the issue. Look, all that is irrelevant at the end of the day, I just need to know why it leads to the apartment you two share, if you don't take the deal I'm getting legal involvement. As I straight up take the whole thing official, I'll take it to the police and we have an actual investigation and it leads to your place and we look into it. We can do it the easy way or the hard way. You two aren't employees anymore." Matthias responded in a serious tone as River looked at him as she stood there. "We are even friends?" She asked as he looked back at her before he responded.

"You tell me, Would someone do this to their entire team if they were friends. Let's just do this together, all that stuff, forget about it okay? Let's just do it together." Matthias responded as River sighed looking at him as Woods responded to him. "Fine," Woods responded as Matthias nodded looking at him as River quietly walked away from the group as Matthias noticed. "River, what do you say?" Matthias asked looking at her as she looked back at him while standing there. "I don't know, Matt. Everything lately has gotten to the point of me not being able to sleep well at night." River responded to him as he nodded before responding to her. "I get that, that's why I want to know why it's connected to everything," Matthias explained as River sighed before nodding as he smiled softly before hugging her as she hugged him back before they went back to everyone. After some time they all decided to go to the apartment to try and find information from the apartment. When they got into the apartment they began looking around, joking around, and asking questions about what happened after they quit and things they heard. 

They ended up going to his room to look around as River went to find Roo as she brought Roo over to them before letting Woods pet Roo as Matthias spoke. "Say we solve this today and you're free, what's your plans?" Matthias asked looking at the two of them as Woods responded to him. "To travel, see the world and live a different life," Woods responded as River nodded looking at him before she responded back to Matthias. "I mean maybe to travel like Woods said, maybe live in my own home where I feel safe, not saying I don't feel safe here Woods. I mean if you count the audio." River said as Woods nodded chuckling some before Matthias went to look in Wood's room again as everyone looked around before Matthias motioned for Sam to come to Wood's room as River got confused following Sam to Wood's room as Sam asked if something was behind there before Matthias had pulled out a file from behind the TV as Sam got confused. "What is that?" Sam asked Matthias as River looked at him before he spoke. "Looks familiar no?" Matthias spoke looking at River as she got confused before she responded back.

"Wait, Woods. Did you take it from the filing cabinet? Matt, what is it." River spoke when Woods was standing in the doorway as he responded back to her. "It's a patient file. How'd these end up here, Woods?" Matthias asked looking at him as Sam looked at Woods as she spoke. "Why would you take those? Why quit and not tell us you have evidence." Sam spoke as Woods sighed before he responded back to them. "Yes, I took it," Woods spoke as Matthias sighed before he stepped closer to him. "Why did you take this," Matthias asked looking at him as everyone else looked at Woods as they all stood in his room.
