When Caleb came into the kitchen the next morning, everyone was already eating breakfast. "Good morning, you're already awake?" Sylvie asked in surprise and looked at the clock. "He wanted to come with us when we take the little ones to school." Kelly said. After breakfast, Kelly and Caleb took the little ones to school. "So, we're going to get breakfast for all of us." Kelly said as he pulled out of the school parking lot. "What were you thinking about?" Caleb asked. "I don't know. What do you think of the Golden Apple Grill and Breakfast House?" Kelly asked. "Oh yeah." Caleb said. At the diner they ordered 4 apple cinnamon French toasts, 1 large freshly squeezed orange juice for Caleb and 4 cafe lattes for the adults. On the way home, Kelly noticed that something is bothering Caleb. "Hey, is everything alright?" Kelly asked. "I don't know." Caleb said. "Hey, come talk to me." Kelly tried to encourage him. "I just think too much has happened in the last 3 days and I don't know how to process it all yet." Caleb said. Kelly stopped at the curb and turned off the engine. "What are you doing?" Caleb asked. "I won't move on until you tell me what's going on." Kelly said. "Oh man, dad. I have no idea what's going on with me. If I know, I'll let you know. Can we please go home now?" Caleb asked annoyed. "Okay, but you come to me if anything's bothering you." Kelly said. Caleb turned away from him and looked out the window. "Caleb." Kelly said, more sternly now. "Oh my, I promise." Caleb said. Kelly restarted the engine and drove on. As they pulled into the driveway and parked, Kelly started to get out, but Caleb held him back. "Hey, what's up?" Kelly asked, closing the door again. Caleb took a deep breath. "I'm scared, Dad." Caleb said, his voice shaking slightly. "What are you afraid of?" Kelly asked, anticipating what Caleb was about to tell him. "That Mom will come to get me. Dad, I don't want to see her. I want to stay here, with you. This is my home." Caleb said, bowing his head. "Hey, look at me. I promise I won't let her come near you again." Kelly said and smiled. Caleb nodded. "Come on, let's have a nice day today." Kelly said and the two got out. Before they went in, Kelly took his son aside again. "Listen, I did some research and found a lawyer. I can give him a call and get some advice." Kelly suggested. "Would you do that?" Caleb asked. "I would do anything to finally end this nightmare." Kelly said.
After breakfast, Kelly called the lawyer and set up a meeting with him the next morning at the firehouse. Caleb got his school laptop and sat down at the kitchen table. Although he will not be present at school for the last 6 weeks, before summer vacation, he still wants to do something for school. Caleb is among the best in his class, which is probably what caused this exhaustion. "Dad, I thought Mr. Chen (Caleb's teacher) and Mr. White (principal) told you not to stress about schoolwork and to take it easy?" Caleb asked, puzzled. "Yes, they have. Why do you ask?" Kelly asked. "Well, because I have a chemistry test tomorrow and an English test on Wednesday and I have some history papers to hand in on Friday." Caleb explained. "What?! Show me." Kelly said and sat down at the table. Caleb pushed the laptop towards him. "Will you drive me to school?" Caleb asked. "You know what Connor said. You won't be going back to school until after the summer break." Kelly said. "Yeah, I know, but I still need my school books." Caleb said. "Okay, but you just grab your textbooks and whatever else you need and then you come out." Kelly said. Caleb nodded. "Okay then, come on." Kelly said. At school, Caleb had an easy time getting his textbooks unnoticed since everyone was in the classrooms. "I don't have to write the exams now, do I?" Caleb asked. 'No, as soon as we get home, I'll call your headmaster and explain the situation to him in detail again. If we have to, we'll go to the doctor and have it certified again." Kelly said. Caleb shrugged his shoulders. Back home, Caleb took his school books to his room and then went out to the others. Caleb was lying on the meadow enjoying the beautiful weather when he was suddenly attacked by the two puppies. "Ah! Help, I'm being attacked by two beasts!" Caleb yelled, trying to sit up. Stella came outside with Lydia, who was taking a nap. She sat down on the meadow with Lydia. Since Lydia just took her nap, she now had a lot of energy to throw herself at her big brother. Caleb was now being manhandled by two playful puppies and his 1-year-old half-sister. "Can someone help me, please." Caleb called. At one point, Stella felt bad for Caleb and took Lydia onto her lap. "Thanks." Caleb said, fixing his hair. "What's going on here?" Kelly asked, who now also came outside. "I just got attacked by 3 playful savages." Caleb said. Lydia watched a butterfly with interest, while the two puppies Spiky and Filou played with each other a little apart. "What's up?" Caleb asked, wiping dirt from his shirt and pants. 'Well, I spoke to your Headmaster again. The plan you got is the general one. You should have the adjusted plan on your account by this evening or tomorrow at the latest." Kelly explained. "Very nice." Caleb said. "Kiki." Lydia said suddenly. "Did she just...?" Caleb asked in astonishment. "Yeah, Kiki." Stella laughed and kissed Lydia on the cheek. "Will you help me prepare the fruit bowl?" Kelly asked. "Yeah, sure." Caleb said, walking into the kitchen with his dad.
