2 weeks have now passed. Jason is now 4 months old and Oakley and Crystal are 3 and a half months old. All 3 babies are developing splendidly. Elyas and Aiko have settled in well and have become an integral part of the family. Stella and Sylvie went back to work after almost a year. Schools are still closed as the blizzard is heavier than the news predicted.
When Caleb came into the kitchen in the morning, Elyas and Aiko were preparing breakfast. "Good morning." Caleb said. "Good morning, Caleb." Elyas said. "By the way, what did your families say, when they found out we're having a very bad snowstorm here?" Caleb asked, sitting down at the table. "My parents were a bit concerned. I mean, we don't know anything like that in Malaysia." Elyas said. "My parents just told me to be careful. We've had blizzards like that in Tokyo, too." Aiko said. "Really?" Caleb asked. "Yes. Do you want to see photos?" Aiko asked. Both boys nodded and Aiko pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Good morning." Andrew said, who now also came into the kitchen. "Good morning, Andrew." Elyas said. "What are you looking at?" Andrew asked. "Pictures of the last snowstorm in Tokyo." Caleb said. "May I look too?" Andrew asked. "Yes, of course." Aiko said. "Woah. You can only see half of the house here." Caleb said. "Yes. This is my grandparents' house. My mom sent me the picture when I was in London." Aiko said. "Oh man. Your grandparents are fine, aren't they?" Elyas asked. 'Yes, they are fine. They always live with us during the winter months." Aiko said. "That's good to hear." Andrew said. "I'm going upstairs now. My class starts in 5 minutes." Elyas said. "Have fun." Caleb said. "Do you need help with your schoolwork?" Aiko asked. "Not for now. I'll be in my room later too. I have a history test today." Caleb said. "OK. Good luck with the exam then." Aiko said. "Thanks. History is one of my favorite subjects. So, I think I'll do pretty well." Caleb said. "What about you?" Aiko asked. "How good are you at math?" Andrew asked. "Math was my absolute favorite subject, so I'd say pretty good." Aiko smiled. "Very good. I have a math test on Thursday. Can you help me study?" Andrew asked. "Of course." Aiko said. After breakfast the boys cleared the table. Caleb then went upstairs and Andrew helped Aiko wash up. "When do the others have to get up?" Aiko asked. "It doesn't matter when it comes to homeschooling. Only when there are exams do you have to be awake at a certain time. Otherwise, it doesn't matter. You just have to finish the assigned school material by the end of the day." Andrew explained. "Ah okay." Aiko said. Then Julian came into the kitchen. "Good morning, Juli." Andrew said. "Good morning, Julian." Aiko said. "Morning." Julian said a little hoarsely. "You don't sound good." Andrew said. "I don't feel good either. My throat is sore and I have a headache." Julian said. Aiko touched his forehead. "I think you have a fever too." Aiko said. "I'll get the thermometer." Andrew said. Julian sat down at the table. "Would you like me to make you some tea?" Aiko asked. "Yes, please. Can you pour it into the thermos?" Julian asked. "I will." Aiko said. Andrew came back into the kitchen with the clinical thermometer and gave it to Julian. "102.2°F" Julian said as the thermometer beeped. "Okay, then you go back to bed. I'll sign you off and I'll call Mom and let her know." Andrew said. Aiko gave him the thermos and Julian went back upstairs to his room he shared with Andrew and got into bed. Andrew put a sick note into Julian's school account and called his mom. He then sat down at the kitchen table with Aiko and studied for the math exam. When the little ones came into the kitchen, Aiko prepared breakfast for them. "Where's Juju?" Hayden asked. "He's in bed. He's not doing so well. He's got a fever and a sore throat." Andrew said. "Like Kayab?" Benjamin asked. "Exactly." Andrew said. "What about Caleb?" Aiko asked. "He was ill over Christmas and New Year. First, he had angina and then he had the flu." Andrew said. After the little ones had finished breakfast, Aiko cleared the table and continued to help Andrew with his math homework. When Elyas came downstairs from his language class, Andrew and Aiko were just finishing their studies. "Hey. How are you doing?" Elyas asked. "Good. Aiko helped me with math and now I have a good feeling for Thursday's test." Andrew said. "Julian is ill. He has a fever and a sore throat." Aiko said. "Oh no." Elyas said. At that moment Julian came into the kitchen. "Hey, how are you?" Aiko asked. "A little better. Could I have another cup of tea?" Julian asked. "I'll do it this time." Elyas said. Julian put the thermos on the kitchen counter and sat down at the table. "But you look better than you did in the morning." Andrew said, grabbing his younger brother's forehead. "I think the fever's gone, too." Andrew said. "Shall we take another temperature?" Aiko asked. "I'll get the thermometer." Andrew said. Aiko measured Julian's temperature again. "Only 98.6°F." Aiko said. "What shall we make for lunch?" Andrew asked. "Elyas and I have been in contact with each other for a long time. We picked out a few recipes. Maybe we can try one of them today." Aiko suggested. "That's a good idea." Andrew said. "Would you like too, or should I make you some soup?" Elyas asked. "I'll eat with you. I'm feeling much better." Julian said. "Good. Then I'll get our recipe folder. Then we can see what we want to cook." Elyas said and went upstairs. "Where's Caleb?" Julian asked. "He's in his room. He has a history test." Aiko said. When Elyas came back down with the folder, he put it on the kitchen table and Andrew and Julian flipped through the folder. "What are you doing?" Matty asked, coming into the kitchen with the others. "We'll see what we could cook for lunch today." Julian said. "May we look too?" Benjamin asked. "Yeah sure." Andrew said. The kids opted for the paprika cream chicken with noodles. "Good, then Aiko and I will start cooking and you can keep playing in the meantime." Elyas said. The little ones ran out of the kitchen and into the basement. "Let's check on the babies and Lydia." Andrew said, taking Julian upstairs. Just as the two got upstairs, Caleb came out of his room. "Hey K. How did the test go?" Andrew asked. "In the beginning we had technical problems. That's why I only finished now. How's it going for you?" Caleb asked. "Julian had a fever and a sore throat this morning. But he's better now. The fever's gone." Andrew said. "Oh ok. But then it's good that he's feeling better." Caleb said. "We wanted to check on the babies. Aiko and Elyas are cooking and the others are in the basement." Andrew said. "I'll come with you. With 4 babies I'm sure you could use a helping hand." Caleb said. Julian got Jason and Andrew and Caleb got Lydia and the twins out of their cribs and took them into the living room. They laid the 3 babies on their play mat and sat next to them with Lydia. When lunch was ready, everyone sat down at the kitchen table and ate lunch together. "Mhmmm. That's really tasty." Andrew said and the others nodded in agreement. "We're glad about that." Aiko said. After lunch, Aiko and Elyas cleaned up the kitchen. Andrew, Julian and Caleb made sure the little ones got their naps. Then Layla, Kayla and the boys sat in the living room and watched TV. In the afternoon Caleb dressed warmly and took the puppies for a short walk. "It's cold outside." Caleb said when he got home. "That's the thing about a winter storm." Andrew joked. "Do not celebrate too early. The driveway has to be cleared today and I already know who that will be." Caleb said and grinned at Andrew. "Why me?" Andrew asked. "Very easily. Julian is ill and I have already been outside with the puppies. So, it's just you." Caleb said. "Come on. We'll help you." Aiko said. "Okay." Andrew said, dressed warmly and went outside with Aiko and Elyas. For dinner they made pizza and watched a movie.
