Thursday:
Today it finally happened. Today the big youth festival took place in Millennium Park. After breakfast the boys packed their camping gear into the van. "So. Done." Caleb said, wiping his forehead. "So, guys. Then we wish you a lot of fun and don't overdo it." Sylvie said. "Of course not. You know us." Andrew grinned. "That's why." Stella said. Sylvie and Stella hugged the boys to say goodbye. Kelly and Matt drove the 3 to Millennium Park. Caleb's friends were already waiting in front of the entrance to the festival site. "Man, I hope we can still find a good place to pitch our tents." Andrew said as he saw the long line. "Where are the girls anyway?" Caleb asked as they got their things out of the van. "They have already lined up. They're pretty far ahead and they're keeping the seats open for us." Nigel said. "Very good." Caleb said. "So; guys. Then we wish you a lot of fun." Matt said. "Thanks. Are you coming to pick us up again on Sunday?" Julian asked. "That shouldn't be a problem." Kelly said. "The festival finishes around 5pm." Caleb said. "Good. Then we will wait here again." Matt said. "Ok. See you Sunday then." Andrew said. "See you Sunday. Have fun." Kelly said. The boys hugged their dads and then walked to the main entrance together. The doors opened 30 minutes earlier than planned. It took almost 1 hour for the guys to finally come in. "Bailey wrote to me. They're at campsite number 5." Zane said. "Okay, let's find campground number 5 then." Caleb said. At campsite number 5, the girls were already setting up their camp. "Hey. There you are." Annabelle said. "Yeah, sorry." Blake said. "Come on. We help each other build up." Liam said. The teenagers set up their camp together and then explored the festival grounds. "Come on. There's an information booth over there. Maybe there's a program or something." Julian said. "Yes. Come on." Zane said. The kids ran to the information stand and had everything explained to them. The helpers at the stand gave them a map of the campus and a program booklet. Back at their campsite, Caleb and Nigel set up the camp table and chairs. Andrew took the card and board games out of one of the bags and they played together. "We said we would do everything together at the festival. Also, things that other people might not find so cool, right?" Tiffany asked. The others smiled at each other and Caleb put his hand on Tiffany's shoulder. "Don't worry, Tif. We'll take you to your make-up class." Caleb said, grinning. Tiffany looked down, embarrassed. Then the announcement came over the speakers that Jason Derulo's concert was about to start. "But first, let's go to the concert." Blake said. The kids cleaned up and ran to the concert stage. The concert was great and everyone had fun. After the concert they went to the booth where girls could get styled. "Guys look. That's Katie over there." Nigel said. "Oh yeah. We can go over and say hello afterwards." Andrew said. "Let's do it." Blake said. After the girls were done, they headed over to Katie's concession stand. "Hey. What are you guys doing here?" Katie asked, surprised. "Didn't we tell you we were at the festival?" Caleb asked. "You might have mentioned something." Katie said. "Are you here alone?" Andrew asked. "No. Peter is here too. He went to get some supplies." Katie said. "Going well on that one?" Julian asked. "Yes. Actually, very good. The festival has only been open for 3 hours and this is Peter's 2nd time, getting more food and drinks." Katie said. "That's great. Do you have anything left for us then?" Caleb asked. "Of course. What do you want?" Katie asked. "We'd like 2 large portions of French fries and 2 large portions of chicken nuggets." Caleb said. "Coming now. Do you want something to drink too?" Katie asked as she prepared the portions. "What do you want to drink?" Caleb asked everyone. Everyone decided on a sprite. "So that would be $12 then." Katie said. "Only?" Caleb asked. "Family Discount. Drinks are on the house." Katie smiled. "Thanks Katie." Nigel said. "Yes, thanks." everyone said. "You're welcome. Bon appetite and have fun." Katie said. "Thanks. We set up camp at campground 5 by the way." Caleb said. "Good to know. We might stop by during a little break." Katie said. The kids said goodbye and went back to their campsite. "Do you already know when you're flying to New York?" Bailey asked. "On Monday." Caleb said. "Ok." Zane said. "And for how long?" Mila asked. "I'll be back on Friday." Caleb said. "And what else are you up to?" Liam asked. "Not much. We're enjoying the time with Caleb now." Julian said. "I love that you guys are on such a good term with each other." Bailey said. "You are also close. You and your sister." Caleb said. "Yes, yes. But I find it special with you. I mean you tow have only been living with them for a year now, right?" Bailey asked. "Yeah, but it's always been like we've always been part of the family." Andrew said. In the afternoon, the kids went to the Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen concert and then passed the time with the various activities.
Friday:
The morning program was not that interesting for the teenagers, so they decided to spend the morning outside the festival area. At the entrance/exit, everyone received a bracelet so that they could get back in. "So, what are we going to do?" Bailey asked. "It might sound silly, but what do you think of a sightseeing bus tour?' Nigel asked. The others agreed and Caleb checked the internet for the nearest stop. "Bad news, folks. Minors are not allowed to ride unaccompanied." Caleb said. "Sure thing." Andrew said. "Then let's just go downtown." Zane said. "Come on then." Annabelle said. On the way to the city center, they passed many parked cars. "Hey guys. Hold on." Blake said. "What's going on?" Mila asked. "Look." Blake said. A child was in one of the parked cars. Nigel tried to open the car door but it was locked. "Who leaves their kid in the car in this heat?" Tiffany asked. "Someone who has no idea how dangerous this can be for the child." Caleb said. Tiffany and Talia stayed by the car while the others looked for something to break the window with. "Hurry up. I think the baby is getting worse." Talia said. "We can't find anything." Julian said. Caleb took his phone out of his pocket. "What are you up to?" Andrew asked. "I'll call Dad. He'll know what to do." Caleb said. It only took 3 seconds for Kelly to finally reply, but it felt like an eternity to Caleb.
Phone call between Kelly and Caleb: "Hello." Kelly replied. "Dad. It's me." Caleb said. "Caleb. Are you okay?" Kelly asked. "No, we need your help." Caleb said, a little desperate. "Hey. Calm down. What's going on?" Kelly asked. "There's a kid in a locked car and we can't get the car open." Caleb said. "How's the kid?" Kelly asked. Caleb went to the car and looked through the window. "No idea. We can't really see anything, but I'm not thinking well." Caleb said. "Where are you?" Kelly asked. "On Michigan Avenue, near Water Tower Place." Caleb said. "Good. stay where you are We're coming." Kelly said.
At Firehouse 51: "What's going on?" Stella asked. "The kids must have taken a little break from the festival frenzy and just saw a kid in a locked car on Michigan Avenue near Water Tower Place." Kelly said. "Let's go then." Chief Boden said. They got into their trucks and drove off.
Once there, they were instructed by Nigel. "It's over there." Nigel said. "How's it going?" Matt asked. "No idea. The windows are completely dirty. We don't even know if it's a boy or a girl." Andrew said. The kids stepped aside. It only took a few simple steps and the child was free. Just as the ambulance pulled away, a young couple came out of one of the bars. "Hey, what are you doing?" the young man asked. "Is that your car?" Chief Boden asked. "Yes." the man said. "Jason! Where's Jason?" the woman asked desperately. "If by Jason your baby means that was in the car, he's on his way to the hospital." Chief Boden said. "How come? What did you do to him?" the man asked, becoming increasingly aggressive. "Sir, calm down. You left your son in the car in this heat." Boden said. "Oh, come on. That was only 2 minutes." the woman said. "Kids, when did you notice the little one in the car?" Boden asked. "About 10 minutes ago. And the car was already red-hot by then." Talia said. Now the police came too. "Chief." Voight said. "Sargent." Boden said, shaking his hand. Noticing the police officers, the man pushed Liam out of the way and tried to run away. Liam fell backwards, taking down Caleb, Zane, and Blake who were standing behind him as well. "You okay boys?' Nigel asked, helping them up. "Yeah. I landed softly." Liam joked. "Maybe you." Zane said, rubbing his arm. "You, okay?" Voight asked. "Yeah, we're fine." Caleb said, brushing the dirt off his clothes and rubbing his elbow. "Everything alright with you?" Ruzek asked when he came back with Atwater and the fugitive. "We're fine." Blake said. "What are you guys doing here?" Julian asked. "Mrs. Goodwin called us and told us what happened." Jay said. "How is he?" Annabelle asked. "He'll be fine. You saved his life by acting quickly." Voight said. "So, what happens to him now?" Tiffany asked. "The youth welfare office is taking care of the little one now and is trying to find any family members." Jay explained. "And what are you doing now?" Ruzek asked. "We're going back to the festival now and we'll stay there until the festival ends on Sunday afternoon." Mila said. "Would you like us to drive you?" Kelly asked. "No, never mind. After this experience I think the walk will do us some good." Caleb said and the others nodded in agreement. "All right. Then we wish you a lot of fun." Matt said. They got into their trucks and drove off.
Back at the festival area, they went to their campsite and sat down at the table. Nigel studied the daily schedule. "What do we want to do today?" he asked. "What else is on the concert program today?" Bailey asked. "The Shawn Mendes concert is in 20 minutes Kelly Clarkson is at 2 p.m. and Charlie Puth is at 3:15 p.m." Nigel said. "All interesting acts." Bailey said. "Then I suggest we go to the stage and see if we can still get good seats." Liam said. "Come on then." Tiffany said. The teenagers walked to the stage and found seats in the front row.
