The next morning, Aiko and Elyas went to the kitchen. "Good morning you two. Did you sleep well?" Stella asked. "Yes. It's the first time for me that I have my own room." Elyas said. "Really? Don't you have your own room at home?" Sylvie asked. "No. With my 3 little brothers." Elyas said. "Okay." Stella said. "Good morning." Caleb said, who now also came into the kitchen. "Good morning." Aiko and Elyas said. 'I see the twins are awake. Do you want to come and see how it goes?" Stella asked. «Yes, thank you." Aiko and Elyas said and went upstairs with Stella. "They're still a little shy." Andrew said. "I mean, they only arrived yesterday. It takes a while for them to settle in." Sylvie said. Caleb helped set the table and prepare breakfast. When Stella, Aiko and Elyas came back downstairs with the twins and Jason, they all sat down at the table and had breakfast. After breakfast, everyone cleaned up the kitchen together. "We have presents for you." Elyas said. "You are cute. But that wouldn't have been necessary." Sylvie said. Aiko and Elyas got their gifts from their rooms and came into the living room. Elyas and Aiko distributed their gifts. Aiko and Elyas have books from their respective hometowns and various small accessories, such as magnets and small statues. "That's really nice of you. Thank you." Stella said. "We can stick the magnets on the fridges." Caleb said. "That's a great idea." Matt said. "I'll do it." Matty said, grabbing the magnets and running to the kitchen. "We thought we could drive around Chicago a bit today and show you guys around the city so you don't get lost out there on your own the first day." Kelly said. "Only if you want, of course." Stella said. "Yes." Aiko said and Elyas nodded in agreement. "Good. Shall we go now?" Matt asked. They drove to key locations first, like the Firehouse, CPD, Chicago Med, the kids' schools, and the vet office. "Obviously, we can't drive to all of our favorite places, but we figured you could get a good view of Chicago from the Willis Tower." Kelly said. "I hope you're not afraid of heights." Caleb said. Aiko and Elyas shook their heads. They drove to the Willis Tower and took the elevator all the way to the top. The two looked around and took many photos. On the way home, they made a little stop at the mall. "In this shopping center you have everything you need under one roof." Sylvie said. "And a small tip on the side. Don't leave Matty unattended. Otherwise, he'll be gone faster than you can see." Matt said. "OK. We'll remember that." Aiko said. They ran some errands and showed them where to find the shops and products.
Back home, they put their purchases away in the cupboards and refrigerators. "Fine, kids. You go to your room and play. We will now discuss everything else with Aiko and Elyas." Stella said. "Caleb, you can stay." Kelly said. The kids went upstairs. Andrew and Julian took Lydia, the twins and Jason to their room. "We go to the living room." Stella said. "All right then. First, we want to talk to you about your language school. As you know, you have English lessons twice a week, is that correct?" Stella asked. "Yes. I have Wednesday and Thursday." Aiko said. "And me Monday and Friday." Elyas said. "OK. We would provide you with one car each, Stella's Jeep and Sylvie's Toyota. You can use it to go to school, do your shopping and you can also use it for your free time activities." Matt said. "Cool. Thank you." Elyas said. "Yes, thanks. We'll take good care of it." Aiko said. "We know that." Stella smiled. "Do you already know which language school you're going to?" Caleb asked. "Yes. The Kaplan International School." Aiko said. "OK. It's about 15 minutes by car. By the way, both cars have a navigation system." Stella said. "Now very briefly about next week. Caleb will be staying home for the whole next week. He does Homeschooling. If you have any questions, you can ask him. Stella and I will also be at home next week." Sylvie said. "Then why did I sign up for homeschooling if you two will be home next week?" Caleb asked. "You suggested it." Stella said. "Yes, because I thought you two would be going back to work next week." Caleb said. "We took a few more weeks off." Sylvie said. Caleb raised his eyebrows. "However. We are really happy that you are here. The little ones have grown very fond of you, too." Matt said. "We are also happy to be here. I've always wanted to come to the United States." Elyas said. "Yes, me too. I've already learned a lot of English at home and I'm very happy." Aiko said. "You two speak pretty good English, too." Kelly said. "Thank you." Aiko and Elyas said. Together they discussed the daily routine, the tasks of the two in the family and the rules. "Here we have prepared a manual for you so that you can look everything up again." Sylvie said and handed both of them a manual. "Mom. I think Jason's hungry." Julian said, who came into the living room with the crying Jason in his arms. "Yes, we hear that." Sylvie said and took Jason to her side. "May we help?" Aiko asked. "Yes, of course." Sylvie said. Aiko and Elyas went into the kitchen with her. "I have a very good feeling that you are in good hands with these two." Kelly said. "Me too." Caleb said. "We have one more question for you. You two like to do sports?" Stella asked. "Yes." Aiko and Elyas said. "Would you be interested in joining a sports club while you're here with us?" Stella asked. "Um, yes, please." Aiko said. "Good. Then we'll look at everything else on Monday." Stella said. "Can someone help me?" Andrew called down. "I'm coming." Caleb said and went upstairs. Caleb wanted to take one of the twins from Andrew. "No thanks. Better take Lydi. She must have forgotten how to walk down stairs." Andrew said. Caleb tried to pick up his little sister, but she resisted. "What's going on?" Caleb asked. Lydia sat down on the stairs and held on to the banister. "What's the matter with you guys?" Kelly asked, now standing at the bottom of the stairs. "Lydi won't come down." Andrew said. Kelly came upstairs and took Oakley. When Elyas appeared at the bottom of the stairs, Lydia suddenly became very excited. "OK. I think Lydi has a new favorite in the house for the next 12 months." Andrew laughed and went downstairs. Elyas came upstairs and took Lydia in his arms. In the afternoon Aiko and Elyas played with the little ones in the garden. Caleb, Andrew and Julian were playing video games in Caleb's room and the adults were watching TV. "Mommy, Daddy. We built a snowman." Matty said. "That's great. Show us your snowman." Sylvie said and went outside with him. "Mommy, I'm cold." Layla said. "Yes, we can see that. But it's also gotten cold." Sylvie said. "I suggest you all go in now and we'll make you some hot chocolate." Kelly said. "Yes." the kids said and ran inside. "Do you have snow at your town too?" Stella asked. "Yes. In Tokyo we've had winter storms that have left us without electricity for days or weeks." Aiko explained. "We only have snow in the mountains. We rarely get snow in Kuala Lumpur." Elyas said. "Dad, is it just me, or has it gotten darker?" Caleb asked, now coming into the kitchen with Andrew and Julian. "It is, but it's already 5 p.m." Matt said. "Nevertheless." Caleb said. "Would you like some hot chocolate too?" Sylvie asked. "Yes, please." Julian said. Suddenly the doorbell rang. "I'm going." Caleb said. A woman was standing outside with a baby seat. "Can I help you?" Caleb asked. "Um yes. My name is Ashley Sanders. I just moved here with my husband." Ashley said. "Well then. Welcome to our neighborhood." Caleb said. "Yes. Thanks." Ashley said. "Is there anything else?" Caleb asked. "Yes. This might sound a bit strange, but does Caleb Severide live here?" Ashley asked. "Yes, that's me." Caleb said, a little uncertain. "Does the name Renee Royce mean anything to you?" Ashley asked. "Oh no. I'm sorry, but I absolutely don't want to have anything more to do with Renee." Caleb said and wanted to close the door. "Hold on." Ashley said. Caleb opened the door again. "What's going on here?" Kelly asked, who now also came to the door. "This is Ashley. She just moved here with her husband and child. And she knows Renee." Caleb said. "I don't know her personally. She is our son's birth mother." Ashley said. "Say that again!" Caleb said. "We adopted Hunter the moment he was born." Ashley explained. "Wait. Are you telling me Hunter..." Caleb said. "Yes, he's your half- brother." Ashley said. Caleb knelt down to Hunter. Hunter smiled at him. "Dad, what do we do now?" Caleb asked. "How do you know about Caleb anyway?" Kelly asked. "We researched and found a newspaper article on the internet." Ashley said. "What newspaper article?" Caleb asked. "The press heard everything at the time and wanted to do an interview with me. Of course, I turned it down because I had other worries." Kelly explained. "We found out about your story from the newspaper article. The same thing happened with Hunter. However, we were able to get him out of the apartment before anything bad happened." Ashley said. "May I come and see him?" Caleb asked. "Are you sure?" Kelly asked. "Dad, he's my half-brother." Caleb said. "Of course, you can visit him." Ashley said. She gave them the phone number and the exact address and said goodbye. Kelly closed the door. "Hey, what's up with you guys?" Stella asked as Kelly and Caleb walked into the living room. "I'll tell you later." Kelly said. They sat together in the living room and watched a movie. In the evening, Elyas and Aiko helped prepare dinner and set the table.
While Elyas and Aiko got the little ones ready for bed after dinner, theadults sat in the living room. "Nowtell us. Who was at the door inthe afternoon?" Sylvie asked. "Thatwas our new Neighbor, Ashley. Shejust moved here with her husband and adopted son." Kelly said. "Ok. So?"Matt asked. "Her adopted son ismy half-brother." Caleb said, who now also came into the living room. "Sorry. Whatdid you just say?" Stella asked. "Youalready understood me. Ashley'sadopted son, is my half-brother." Caleb repeated. "Andwhat now?" Sylvie asked. Calebshrugged and flopped onto the couch. "Hey. Youdon't have to make a decision right away." Kelly said. Calebgot up. "Where are yougoing?" Stella asked. "I'mgoing to bed." Caleb said, going upstairs and locking himself in his room. Kellyput his face into his hands and Stella stroked his back. "Everythingwas fine for so long and I really thought Caleb was finally done with it all."Kelly said. "Uncle Kelly. Idon't think Caleb is doing well. He'scrying." Andrew said, coming into the living room. "I'mcoming." Kelly said and went upstairs. Heknocked on Caleb's bedroom door. "Caleb? Hey,K. Open the door, please." Kelly said. Ittook a while, but finally the door was unlocked. Kellyslowly opened it and entered. Calebwas lying face down on the bed. "Hey,K. Look at me." Kelly said. Calebrolled onto his back and wiped the tears from his face. "Hey. Nowlisten to me. You don't have to dothis, you know that. You have her number. I cancall her if you want." Kelly said. Calebshook his head. "Do you want tosleep on it for a night first?" Kelly asked. Calebnodded. "All right then. I'llleave you alone and if something happens, you know where to find us." Kellysaid. "Can you leave thedoor open a bit?" Caleb asked. "Yes,of course." Kelly smiled and switched off the light.
