The next morning, after breakfast, they packed up their stuff and went to the nearby beach. "Dad, can I go surfing?" Caleb asked as they spread out their towels and set up the umbrellas and beach shelter. "What makes you think of that now?" Kelly asked. "Well, there's a surfboard rental shop up ahead. They even offer surfing lessons." Caleb said. "Why not?" Matt said. "I want to surf too." Benjamin said. "I'm sorry, sweetheart, but you're still a bit too small for that." Stella said. "Alright then, come. Let's see what they offer." Kelly said and went with Caleb to the surfboard rental booth. He booked him a beginner's course for the whole 2 weeks, each in the afternoon for 1 hour. Caleb got a wetsuit and a surfboard. After registering, both went back to the others. "No luck?" Sylvie asked, who was putting sunscreen on Layla. "Yes, but it doesn't start until this afternoon." Caleb said, sitting down with the boys who were building a sandcastle. "Anyone coming in the water?" Kelly asked. "Yes, I do." Matt said. "I'm coming, too." Caleb said. "Anyone else?" Kelly asked. "I don't think so." Stella said. "Then see you later." Matt said and the 3 went to the water. The little ones watched them and every time one of them disappeared into the waves, they got scared. Suddenly, Kelly Matt and Caleb were caught by a slightly larger wave. Kelly and Matt were lucky, but Caleb was caught full force. When Caleb re-appeared, he was coughing quite heavily. "You, okay?" Kelly asked. Caleb nodded and coughed. "I'm just a little scared." Caleb said, wiping the water from his face. "Hey, are you alright?" Sylvie called from the beach. "Yes, everything all right. Just a little unexpected." Matt exclaimed, raising his thumb. Caleb and Kelly did the same. "Everything ok out there?" Stella asked. "Seems so. They must have just been taken by surprise." Sylvie said. "Caleb too? He was gone a little longer." Stella asked, a little worried. "I know, but he seems to be fine. He's a good swimmer and diver, he's proven that often enough." Sylvie said. "I hope you are right. He's still pretty closed when it comes to expressing his feelings." Stella said. "He's Kelly's son-" Sylvie smiled. "Yes, he is his father's son." Stella said thoughtfully. "Mama." Lydia said, climbing into Stella's lap. Stella took her in her arms and kissed her. "Mommy, can I get water for our castle?" Kayla asked. "Of course, but be careful." Sylvie said. Kayla nodded, got her bucket and ran to the water. Sylvie and Stella kept an eye on her so they could intervene in an emergency. When Kelly, Matt and Caleb returned, they went to the beach bistro for lunch. While Caleb had his first surfing lesson in the afternoon, the little ones took a nap in the air-conditioned hotel room. When Caleb returned to the hotel room after the surf lesson, the little ones had just woken up. «Hey. How was it?" Stella asked. "Really great. Kamon, that's the name of my surfing instructor, was really excited about how well I can keep my balance." Caleb said. "No wonder. You're on the skateboard at every opportunity." Kelly laughed and tousled his hair. "Don't do that, Dad. You're ruining my hair." Caleb said, smoothing his hair back into place. "Sorry. Sometimes I just forget how big you are." Kelly said. "Yeah. But remember, I'll be 15 in December. Next year I'll be allowed to drive. So, start saving." Caleb joked.
