The next morning, Kelly went briefly to Caleb's room to bring him the baby monitor. "Good morning. I have the baby monitor here for you and some brief information. Stella has fed Lydia and she is now sleeping again, which means you still have a few hours of rest. Uncle Matt and Aunt Sylvie are taking the little ones to school now. After school, Cindy picks them up and you spend the night with them." Kelly explained. "Wait, we?" Caleb asked. "Yeah, you still have practice today, right?" Kelly asked. "Yes, may I go?" Caleb asked. "Yes, I thought it would do you good to continue your soccer practice." Kelly smiled. "And what do I do with Lydia? I can't take her with me." Caleb said. "You can bring her to Cindy's before you go to practice. And after training you go to Herrmann's. Cindy takes the little ones to school in the morning and we'll pick you up after shift." Kelly explained. "OK. Thanks for letting me go to the training." Caleb smiled. "No problem. So, I wish you a lot of fun in training and then we'll see each other tomorrow." Kelly said and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Take care." Caleb said. "We will." Kelly smiled and left the room.
2 hours later, Caleb was woken up by the baby crying. He jumped out of bed, turned off the baby monitor, and went to Kelly and Stella's room to check on Lydia. As soon as Caleb entered the room, Lydia stopped crying and instead jumped excitedly in her bed. "Well, you, did you sleep well?" Caleb asked his little sister and gave her a kiss. Caleb changed her diapers and put a nice dress on her. "Would you like to have some breakfast again, because I really need something to eat right now, otherwise I'll starve." Caleb laughed and took Lydia in his arms. Caleb put Lydia in the high chair and cut her a banana. Caleb put 2 slices of toast in the toaster. Suddenly the doorbell rang. "Well, who might that be? Are you expecting someone?" Caleb asked his little sister. Lydia smiled at him. Caleb opened the kitchen window. The postman was outside. "Good morning." Caleb said. "Good morning. Is Mr. Kelly Severide at home?' the postman asked. 'No, he's at work. I'm his son." Caleb said. "I have a letter for him here. However, I would need his signature. When is he coming back?" the postman asked. "Tomorrow, around 8:30 a.m." Caleb said. "That's too late. It's an urgent registered mail" the postman said. "Shall I sign it?" Caleb asked. "How old are you?" the postman asked. «14. I'll be 15 in December." Caleb said. "Okay, but this is an absolute exception and I'm only doing it because it's urgent." the postman said, handing Caleb his device to sign. The postman gave him the letter and Caleb closed the window again. He looked at the return address on the envelope and froze. "Come on Lydia. We're going to visit mummy and daddy." Caleb said, lifting Lydia out of the high chair. Caleb put a jacket on his little sister, put the dogs on a leash and left the house.
"Hey, see who's stopping by again." Cruz said as Caleb walked into the garage with Lydia. "It sounds like we haven't seen each other in years." Caleb laughed. "Well, you haven't been here for a long time." Cruz said. "How are you?" Violet asked. "I'll put it this way, is Dad here too?" Caleb asked. "Trouble?" Sylvie asked with foreboding. 'I'll tell you later. Is he here?" Caleb asked. 'He's in the briefing room. But he's got visitors." Violet said. "That's great." Caleb said. "Should I take the little one?" Sylvie asked, stretching out her arms. Caleb wanted to give her Lydia, but Lydia wanted to go to Violet. "Come here then, sweetheart." Violet said, taking Lydia in her arms. 'Oh yeah, do me a favour. Keep her away from your ears, she's in scream mode right now." Caleb said, stepping inside. "Is everything okay with Caleb?" Violet asked. "Not really." Sylvie said. "What's going on?" Cruz asked. "Caleb's mom showed up on Sunday." Sylvie said.
Caleb knocked on the door and entered. "Hey, what are you doing here?" Kelly asked. "Hey, sorry to bother you, but I have something you might be interested in." Caleb said, pulling the envelope out of his jacket pocket. "Come sit down first...Mr. Miller, this is my son Caleb...Caleb our lawyer, Mr. Miller." Kelly introduced them both. "Hello Caleb, nice to meet you." Mr. Miller smiled. Caleb sat down next to his dad. "The letter came this morning. I came here right away because I knew you were here." Caleb explained. Kelly opened the letter and scanned it briefly. "She wants custody, right?" Caleb asked. "Yes, she wants fully custody. Can't we do something about that?" Kelly asked. "May I have a look?" Mr. Miller asked. Kelly gave him the letter. "You told me that your ex-wife emigrated to Europe and left Caleb in the apartment at the time?" Mr. Miller asked. "Yes, but first, Renee and I were never married. We broke up just before Caleb was born. But we are apart on good terms and at the time we agreed that we would take care of Caleb together." Kelly explained. "Okay, sorry, but to be honest, I don't think your ex-girlfriend will get away with it." Mr. Miller said. "Does that mean I can stay with my dad?" Caleb asked. "I can't and don't want to make any promises here, but we have to be prepared that we won't settle this out of court." Mr. Miller said. At that moment, a call came in. "I have to go too I'll reply to the letter and get in touch with you. If there's anything or you need anything, please get in touch as well." Mr. Miller said. "We will, thank you." Kelly said, running outside. "I'll walk you outside." Caleb said. "How's your dad?" Mr. Miller asked. "He's really cool. He supports me in everything I do. Sometimes he's a bit strict, but that's normal. He only wants what's best for us." Caleb explained. Outside they said goodbye. Caleb watched him go and then went back into the vehicle hall. "Are you alright?" Herrmann asked. Caleb quickly wiped the tears from his face and sat in Kelly's chair. "Hey, what's going on?" Herrmann asked. "Nothing, I'm fine." Caleb said. Herrmann looked him over. "Mom was with us on Sunday. She wants full custody and now we even have to face a court hearing." Caleb explained and was visibly desperate. 'Hey, that'll be fine. Kelly loves you and would never let anything happen to you." Herrmann tried to encourage him. "I know that, it's just, I don't understand why right now. She hasn't even called in the whole 14 years and now she's suddenly on our doorstep and makes a perfect world." Caleb said. "What exactly happened back then? As long as I'm allowed to ask questions and you want to talk about it?" Ritter asked. "I can only tell you what Dad told me. My mom went to Europe with her new boyfriend 14 years ago and left me at the apartment. I must have screamed so hard that the neighbors called the police. I ended up going to Lake Shore Hospital." Caleb explained. Lydia pulled herself up on Caleb's pants and rested her head on his lap. "Lydia is really into you." Ritter said. "Yes. It's funny, when Benny was that Age, I wasn't even allowed to come near him and he started crying." Caleb laughed, picking her up and Lydia immediately wrapped her arms around Caleb's neck. "Well, we have to go again. I have some work to do for the school." Caleb said. "Cindy said you're staying with us for the night." Herrmann said. Caleb nodded because that was all he could do as Lydia was fidgeting quite uncomfortably. As soon as Caleb put her on the floor, Lydia started to cry. "So, what do you want? Would you like me to sit with you?" Caleb asked. Lydia turned to her big brother crying and pulled at his pant leg. Caleb sat down on the floor with her and Lydia crawled into his lap. "Happy now?" Caleb asked. Lydia slowly calmed down and Herrmann and Ritter laughed. At that moment the others came back. Lydia screeched excitedly. "There's my sweet little mouse." Stella said, picking up Lydia. "Great, your sweet little mouse is making me go deaf." Caleb laughed. But as soon as Stella had taken Lydia, Filou and Spiky laid themselves in his lap. "Great. Are you comfortable?" Caleb asked. Spiky and Filou barked in agreement. "Well, I'm afraid you guys have to get down there because it's not very comfortable for me." Caleb said.
After the visit at the station, Caleb took Lydia and the puppies to the park and then back home. After lunch, Caleb put Lydia in her bed so she could take her nap. He put the baby monitor next to him and tried to do a little something for school. At around 3pm, Caleb brought Lydia to Cindy's and then drove to soccer practice.
