Last day of school
Today is the day. Today Caleb had his very last day of school in Chicago. "Good morning." Caleb said as he walked into the kitchen. «Hey. Good morning, how are you?" Kelly asked, putting a plate of pancakes in front of him. "I barely slept. I'm pretty nervous." Caleb said, placing a legal pad on the kitchen counter next to him. "What have you got there?" Kelly asked. "Just a list of things I want to do this summer before I fly to Dubai." Caleb said, handing his dad the notepad. "Food challenge?" Kelly asked. "Yes. Andy, Juli and I saw some videos on Youtube. There are two different ones. We're either only allowed to eat food with a certain color or food that start with the first letter of our names." Caleb explained. "Ok. By the way, I've been thinking about your trip to New York." Kelly said. "And?" Caleb asked. "You can fly to New York. But only for a maximum of 1 week. We also have some plans for you before you fly to Dubai." Kelly said. "Alright. Thanks Dad." Caleb said hugging Kelly. "You're welcome." Kelly said, kissing his head. Caleb put his dishes in the sink and went upstairs to his room. "Dad." Caleb said as he came back downstairs with his school bag. "What's up?" Kelly asked. "Tyler sent me a packing list as a little help. We have training in the morning from 7:30 - 10:00. Then until 12:00 school lessons and then until about 17:30 we can do whatever we want because it's too hot to train in the afternoon." Caleb said. "Ok. That's great." Kelly said. "Yes. The list says we are allowed to bring our own video games too. And our own Switch consoles, too." Caleb said. "That means you need your own Switch." Kelly said and Caleb grinned at him. "All right. Write down everything you need. We can do a shopping day then." Kelly said. "I'll do it. I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." Caleb said. "Will you do me a favor and come to the station after school?" Kelly asked. "Sure. See you later then." Caleb said and left the house. This time Caleb was the first one from the circle of friends to come to the schoolyard. He sat down on the small wall in front of the entrance and waited for his friends. "Hey C.J. Are you there already?" Nigel asked in surprise. "Yes. Now I'm the first one." Caleb said, giving him a high five. Gradually the others came along. "How are you?" Zane asked. "I hardly slept that night." Caleb said. "Today classes only last until 11." Talia said. "That's right." Bailey said. "What are you guys doing over the summer holidays?" Liam asked. "Nothing special. We're going to Miami for a few days. Otherwise, we're here." Zane said. "What about you Caleb? How are you spending your summer vacation?" Mila asked. "Dad allowed me to fly to New York for a week. Otherwise, I'll be home and spending time with my family." Caleb said. "Understandable." Liam said. "But hey. The festival starts on Thursday." Nigel said. "I know, and we're looking forward to that, too." Caleb said. "So are we." Annabelle said. "And? Ready for your final lessons?" Talia asked when the doorbell rang. "Come on. Let's get it over with." Caleb said, walking into the school building with his friends.
After class, Caleb got his textbooks and papers out of his locker, took off his posters and pictures, and stuffed everything in his school bag. "Caleb. It's good that I can still reach you." Mr. Chen said. "Mr. Chen? What's up?" Caleb asked. "I have your new school notes here. Also, a pick-up confirmation for your new school laptop set up for the 'new' school lessons." Mr. Chen said, handing Caleb a folder. "Thanks. How long do I have to pick up the laptop?" Caleb asked. "You can pick it up today, or just before you fly to Dubai." Mr. Chen said. "Ok. Then I can put it on the list. We've got some things to get anyway." Caleb said. "Good. And if you need anything or have problems with your homework. I've set up a new email address for you to contact me at." Mr. Chen said. "Thank you, Mr. Chen. Also, for all the support you've given me." Caleb said. "With pleasure. By the way, my kids got really excited when I told them you were one of my students." Mr. Chen said. "Huh? How am I to understand that?" Caleb asked. "Didn't you hear anything? You are already the new hope of American soccer." Mr. Chen said, showing Caleb an article from the Chicago Sun. "Cool. No, I didn't hear anything. And how do your kids know me?" Caleb asked. "My kids both play at the Chicago Fire SC Academy and you're the number one topic of conversation there right now." Mr. Chen said. "Okay." Caleb said. "Unfortunately, I have to go now. I wish you all the best and good luck in Dubai." Mr. Chen said. "Thank you, Mr. Chen. I wish you the best, too." Caleb said. Outside, Caleb's friends were waiting for him. "There you are. We thought you snuck out the back door." Tiffany said. "Did you know about the article in the Chicago Sun?" Caleb asked. His friends looked at each other. "You guys knew about it and didn't tell me." Caleb said. "What should we have done. We know you don't like the spotlight." Blake said. "A little advance warning would have been nice." Caleb said. "But it's kind of cool. I mean, you're going to be a bit of a celebrity." Bailey said. "When you're a professional soccer player, there's something about you in the newspaper every day." Talia said. "We're sorry we didn't tell you." Zane said. "It's ok. Come on, let's go." Caleb said. "How did you actually find out about the article?" Annabelle asked. "Mr. Chen told me." Caleb said. "Hey, where are you going? Home goes that way." Nigel said. "I know. But Dad said I should come to the station after school." Caleb said. "Ok. Then we'll see each other on Thursday. I'll write you when and where we meet." Talia said. "Ok. See you on Thursday, then." Caleb said.
"Hey. Look who's here." Gallosaid as Caleb walked into the common room. "Howwas the last day of school?" Violet asked. "Askme again next week. It'sstill feeling a bit surreal right now." Caleb said, putting his school bagdown on the couch. "Whatdo you have in there? Stones?"Mouch asked. "Something like that. No. I hadto clear out my locker." Caleb said. "Andwhat's in the folder?" Stella asked. "Mynew school documents. I'malso getting a new laptop." Caleb said. "Didn'tyou just get a new laptop?" Gallo asked. "No. Notthat I know of. Also, this is the laptopfor school. Mr. Chen got a secondemail address so I can reach him if I get stuck and he doesn't have to check ahundred times to see if I've emailed him." Caleb said. "Ithink it's great that you get the support from everywhere. Imean, it's not a given that you have a teacher, a principal, and a whole schoolbehind you." Ritter said. "Ohwell. Not the whole school. Thereare a few students who are jealous because I got picked and they didn't."Caleb said. "There are enviouspeople everywhere. It'sthe ones who believe in you that matter." Stella said. Suddenly,Caleb was grabbed from behind but didn't flinch. "Giveit up, Evan. You can't scareme." Caleb said. "Wortha try." Evan said, kissing Violet. "And? Areyou excited yet?" Herrmann asked. "It'sactually okay." Caleb said. About20 minutes later, the Squad team returned from their call. «Hey. Well? Howwas today?" Kelly asked. "Allright." Caleb said. "Andwhat's that?" Kelly asked. "Mynew school documents. I'meven getting a new laptop." Caleb said. "Wellthen you're fully equipped now. Atleast when it comes to schooling." Matt said. "What'sit like then? Do you have regularclasses and then practice in the evenings?" Evan asked. "Notquite. We have training in themorning from 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Thenschool until 12 p.m. and then free time until about 5:30 p.m." Caleb said. "Until5:30 p.m.?!» Gallo asked in surprise. "Yes. In theafternoon it is way too hot to train outside. But Ithink we have training on Wednesdays or Thursdays in the air-conditioned gym, from 2pm to 4:30pm." Caleb said. "Howwarm is it in Dubai?" Ritter asked. "Inthe summer over 104.0 °F. Between73°F and 78.8°F in the winter." Caleb said. "Andthen what do you do when you have so much free time?" Mouch asked. "Wewill see it then. Thecampus has a lot to offer and there is also a lot to discover in Dubai itself."Caleb said. Evan meanwhile had to goback to headquarters and Sylvie and Violet got a call. "Ihave something for you. Comewith me." Kelly said and walked with Caleb to the lockers. Heopened his locker and pulled out an envelope. "What'sthat?" Caleb asked. "Yourplane ticket. I spoke to Susanne andAaron. You can fly to them fromJuly 10th to July 14th." Kelly said. "Cool. ThanksDad." Caleb said. "Ofcourse." Kelly said. "Whatabout the garden? Whenare we going to set up the garden?" Caleb asked. "Howabout we go to the mall tomorrow." Kelly suggested. "Ourgarden is big, isn't it?" Caleb asked. "Yes,why?" Kelly asked cautiously and closed his locker. "Couldn'twe plant a bed and maybe grow our own vegetables?" Caleb asked. "Doyou really think we can do this?" Kelly asked mischievously. "Itcan't be that hard." Caleb said. "Maybethen the little ones will eat more vegetables, too." Caleb said. "Allright. We can go to the gardencenter tomorrow and see what we can find. MaybeAndy, Juli and you can write down what we could grow." Kelly said. "Ok. Dad,can I leave my school bag in your car? Idon't want to carry it all the way home." Caleb said. "Sure...Here."Kelly said, handing Caleb his car keys. Calebtook his school bag and took it to Kelly's Mustang and put his school bag andportfolio in the trunk. Justas Caleb returned and handed the keys back to Kelly, everyone was called to a call. "I'llgo then too. See you tomorrow."Caleb said and left the station.
