It has gotten a little warmer in the last few days. The snowstorm is over and the schools are open again. Aiko and Elyas had the weekend off and went with some friends on a short road trip to Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
"Mommy, I'm bored." Layla said. "Me too." Kayla said. "Can we go outside?" Layla asked. "You know what, that's a good idea. Why don't we go on a trip together." Sylvie suggested. "Yes. We haven't done anything in a long time." Stella said. "Hey. What are you guys talking about?" Caleb asked, coming into the kitchen too. "We're going to the park." Layla and Kayla said excitedly. "What have we done?" Caleb asked. "I don't know. What have you guys done?" Stella asked. "We haven't done anything wrong, but why are you doing this to us?" Caleb asked. "Why?" Sylvie asked. "Girls, cover your ears." Caleb said. Layla and Kayla covered their ears tight. "The blizzard may be over, but it's still f***ing freezing out there." Caleb said. "He said a bad word." Kayla said. "I told them to cover their ears." Caleb said, raising his arms innocently. "That's correct. Caleb, you know what that means." Matt said. Caleb rolled his eyes. "You have to put money in the curse register." Layla said. Caleb took his wallet out of his pocket and dropped 50 cents into the tall jar that said 'Curse Cash'. "Twice." Kelly said. "Why that?" Caleb asked. "Because there are two of us." Layla said. Caleb rolled his eyes, threw another 50 cents into the glass and left the kitchen annoyed. "Good. Will you let the others know we're leaving soon?" Sylvie asked. Layla and Kayla nodded and ran out of the kitchen. Stella and Sylvie made sandwiches, as well as vegetable and fruit snacks and Kelly and Matt took care of drinks. Caleb, Andrew and Julian helped the little ones get dressed. "We're ready." Julian shouted. When the adults came into the entrance area, the little ones were standing tightly wrapped up in front of the front door. "What have you done?" Sylvie asked. "What? You said to make sure the little ones are dressed warmly." Andrew said. "Yes. But in such a way that they can still move." Stella said. "Daddy, I have to pee." Benjamin said. "Oh man, Benny. We asked if anyone else needed to go to the bathroom." Caleb said. "Yes, I haven't had to. Daddy, I haven't had to, back then." Benjamin said. "Come on then." Kelly said and undressed Benjamin, who had filled 100 layers. Lydia tried to clap her hands but couldn't and fell backwards on her butt. Andrew, Caleb and Julian helped dress the little ones properly. After everyone was ready, they got in their cars and headed to Millennium Park's ice rink. While the kids enjoyed themselves on the grounds, the adults sat down at an empty picnic table with Jason, Oakley, Crystal and the 3 puppies. "Uncle Matt. Can you help me?" Caleb called. "What's going on?" Matt asked. "Hayden is tired." Caleb said, helping Hayden over the threshold. "It's boring." Hayden said. "What's boring?" Matt asked. "Just driving around in circles." Hayden said. "Then let's go the other way." Caleb said and Matt couldn't help but smile. Now the other kids came too. "We're bored." Levi said. "Really?" Caleb asked, rolling his eyes. "All right then. We'll find something you like." Matt said. "Can we still skate?" Caleb asked. "Honestly. We don't feel like it anymore either." Julian said. "All right. Can I go on then?" Caleb asked. "You may. And you sit down with us. We brought board games." Matt said. While Caleb continued to skate, the others sat down and played games. A few hours later Caleb had finished skating and sat down with the others. "And? What else do you want to do?" Kelly asked. "I want to go home." Matty whined. "Me too." Levi and Benjamin said. "What about you, boys? What else do you want to do?" Sylvie asked. "There's an ice disco in Lincoln Park today." Julian said. "True." Caleb said. "Yes, can we go there?" Andrew asked. "Yes, of course. Do you want us to drive you there or do you want to go alone?" Matt asked. "Drive. We don't want to walk an hour or more to Lincoln Park." Caleb said. "You could always take the subway." Matt said. "Oh right. Anyway, you can drive us. We'll take the subway home then." Caleb said. "Okay, everyone aboard, then." Kelly said. At Lincoln Park they let Andrew, Caleb and Julian out. "So, then we wish you a lot of fun." Stella said. "Thank you." the 3 boys said and Caleb closed the sliding door of the van. The boys rented skates at the entrance and made their way onto the ice. "Hey. Can you guys keep a secret?" Caleb asked. "Yes, of course." Andrew said and Julian nodded in agreement. "You really mustn't tell anyone. Especially not your and my parents. That's very important." Caleb said. "Ok. What's going on?" Andrew asked. "Remember the offer I got last year?" Caleb asked. "The offer from the Soccer Academy in Dubai?" Julian asked. Caleb nodded. "Don't they have an academy in Springfield, too?" Andrew asked. "They have. However, this academy is full. I got an email a few weeks ago that I could go to Dubai in the summer." Caleb said. "What do you want to do now?" Julian asked. Caleb shrugged. "You've always dreamed of it. It would be a shame if you didn't take that chance now." Andrew said. "Yes, yes. But Dubai is far away and I would only come home, if at all, for the summer and Christmas/New Year." Caleb said. "You absolutely have to tell them. You know that they support you and of course we do too." Andrew said and put his hand on Caleb's shoulder. "And besides, it would be really cool to have a cousin who plays soccer international." Julian said. "You guys just want to show off at school." Caleb said. "Hey, I was just trying to cheer you up." Julian said and Andrew slapped him on the back of the head. "Seriously now. You need to talk to them." Andrew said. "I'll talk to them tonight, I promise." Caleb said. The 3 spent the afternoon in Lincoln Park.
On the way home, Caleb suddenly got very nervous. "Are you alright?" Julian asked. "If I say now, run home as fast as you can and get help." Caleb said. "What? How come? What's going on?" Andrew asked. "Just do it. And don't look back." Caleb said. Andrew and Julian looked at each other. "GO! RUN!" Caleb yelled and Andrew and Julian ran. Seconds later, Caleb was cut off by a black car. Julian stopped and turned around. "Jules, come on. We have to go home now." Andrew yelled, pulling his brother with him. When they got home, the two immediately stormed into the kitchen. Both boys were completely distraught and talking wildly at the same time. "Hey, calm down. Calm down. What happened? And where's Caleb?' Sylvie asked. Both boys took a deep breath. "Caleb has been kidnapped." they both said at the same time. "WHAT!?" the adults asked, also at the same time. "We were on our way home when Caleb suddenly got very nervous." Andrew said. "Yes. And he told us to run home and get you guys." Julian said. "Where exactly?" Kelly asked. "Just down the road." Andrew said. "Call the police. We'll try to catch them." Kelly said and ran out of the house with Matt. Kelly and Matt were running down the street when they heard a car screeching in their direction. Seconds later, the black BMW raced toward them. Kelly just managed to jump to the side. "Hey. Are you okay?" Matt asked, helping him up. "Yes. I have the license plate." Kelly said. "Yes, me too. Come on. The police will probably be here by now." Matt said.
"Here they come." Stella said, walking out of the kitchen. "And?" Sylvie asked. Kelly shook his head and sat on the corner seat. "We were too late. All we saw was the black BMW coming at us with screeching tires." Matt said. "Do you have the license plate number for the car?" Voight asked. Matt gave him the license plate and Adam went outside to check it. "We'll find him." Voight said, putting his hand on Kelly's shoulder. Stella sat down next to her husband and hugged him. "Where's Andrew and Julian?" Matt asked. "Upstairs in their room." Sylvie said. "I'll check on them." Matt said. "I'll come with you." Kelly said and they both went upstairs. Matt knocked on the room door and entered, followed by Kelly. "Hey boys. How are you guys?" Matt asked. "We are sorry. We should have helped him." Andrew said. "Hey. Don't blame yourself. You couldn't have done anything. You guys did everything right by listening to Caleb and coming to us right away." Kelly said. "I stopped. I should have kept running. Maybe you could have saved him then." Julian sobbed. "No, hey. Look at me. It was not your fault. The police are checking a number plate now and if we're lucky we'll find him really quick." Matt said. Kelly and Matt hugged both boys tightly. Then there was a knock on the door and Stella came in. "Come on." Stella said. "Always remember. Everything that happened today wasn't your fault." Matt said and left the room with Stella and Kelly. "Got anything?" Kelly asked. "Yes. We checked the license plate and got a hit." Adam said. "And?" Kelly asked impatiently. "The car is registered to a certain Enzo Alvarez." Adam said. "Does the name mean anything to you?" Voight asked. "Not that I know." Matt said. "I do." Kelly said, and everyone looked at him. "And who is that?" Stella asked. "Enzo is Renee's new guy." Kelly said. "So, it was her?" Sylvie asked. "Is possible. But it doesn't have to be." Adam said. "Of course, she was. Enzo has no interest in Caleb. Renee always wanted to have Caleb back." Kelly said. "All right. We'll check it all out." Adam said. "And you, Kelly, stay at home. We'll take care of it and get Caleb back home." Voight said. "I can't just sit at home while my son is being held captive somewhere." Kelly said. "You'll have to, though." Voight said. "We'll make sure he stays calm." Stella said. "Good. We'll get back to you. And if you hear anything, please let us know immediately." Voight said. "We will." Stella said. Voight and Adam said goodbye and Stella closed the door. "Now what?" Kelly asked. "We're going to do what Voight told us to do now. I know it won't be easy. Not for any of us, but we mustn't worry the others." Stella said. "And what do we tell the others?" Andrew asked, standing on the stairs with Julian. "They already knew something happened." Sylvie said. "Intelligence will get Caleb home safely." Stella said. Andrew and Julian nodded.
It was very quiet at dinner. Afterdinner, Andrew and Julian went to their room and never came out. WhileMatt, Stella and Sylvie put the little ones to bed, Kelly sat in the livingroom and flipped through the photo album. "Hey. I'msure he's fine." Stella said. "Ijust wonder how did she know where to find him. I meanwe moved and Caleb got a new phone." Kelly said. "Idon't know." Stella said.
