2 weeks later:
Normality has returned to the Severide/Casey home. Caleb is back to his old self and his academic performance has improved tremendously. Now he just calls Stella Mom and everyone knows that. They also haven't heard from Renee for 2 weeks, nor has she ambushed Caleb in front of the school.
Caleb was still in bed when he heard voices outside. He looked at his alarm clock. He got out of bed, put on a shirt and pants and opened the door to his room. "What's going on?" Caleb asked, half asleep, rubbing his eyes. "Stella's water broke. Your dad is taking her to the hospital now." Matt said. «Wait what? But the appointment is only in 2 weeks." Caleb said a little worried. "Don't worry. That's what twins tend to do, they come a little earlier than planned." Matt said. "What's going on out here?" Andrew asked, coming out of his room with Julian. "Mom's water broke." Caleb said. "Really. That means they're about to be born, right?" Julian asked excitedly. "Yeah, but it'll take a while." Matt said. At that moment Benjamin, Matty and the girls came out of their rooms. "Good morning." Matt said. The two boys yawned and rubbed their eyes. "Can I say hello to Mommy?" Benjamin asked. "You can't do that at the moment and do you know why?" Matt asked, kneeling down next to him. "Why?" Benjamin asked. "Mommy and Daddy had to go to the hospital because the babies are coming soon." Matt explained. "Yay, baby." Benjamin said, jumping up and down excitedly. "How long does it take until our brother is born?" Andrew asked. "The due date is in 3 weeks." Matt said. "Oh no." Benjamin said suddenly. "What is it?" Matt asked. "What if I hurt the babies? Then Mommy and Daddy will be mad at me." Benjamin said, bowing his head. "No, they won't, believe me." Caleb said. "Really?" Benjamin asked. "Yes, but if you want, we can practice handling babies again." Caleb suggested. "Me too?" Matty asked. "Sure." Caleb said. "It's still too early, we'll lie down again." Andrew said. "That's fine." Matt smiled. Andrew and Julian went back to their room and Caleb went to his room with Benjamin and Matty. "All right then, look here. This teddy is the baby and it's crying. How can you calm it down again?" Caleb asked. "When I hold it in my arms?" Benjamin asked. "Go ahead, but be careful with the head." Caleb said. Benjamin carefully picked up the teddy bear and put it in his arms. Caleb helped support his head. "See, it's not that hard." Caleb said. Benjamin proudly held the bear in his arms. "Me too." Matty said. "Well, try it now." Caleb said, putting the teddy bear back on the bed. Matty tried it too, but didn't do as well as Benjamin. "Okay, wait a minute. Sit on the bed." Caleb said. Matty sat on the bed and Caleb sat behind him. Caleb helped lift the bear up and supported his head. After a while, the two got bored and went downstairs to the living room. Caleb put his teddy bear back on the shelf with the other bears and headed for the shower. When Caleb came downstairs, the others were already eating breakfast. "Good morning." Sylvie said. "Good morning." Caleb said, fixing himself a bowl of cornflakes. "Have you heard from the hospital?" Caleb asked. "No, not yet." Matt said. After breakfast the little ones were playing in their rooms, Andrew and Julian were out with friends and Caleb was pacing up and down nervously in his room. Matt and Sylvie were sitting in the living room. "Maybe you should talk to him." Sylvie suggested. "Maybe you're right." Matt said, kissing her. Matt got up and went upstairs, followed by the two, family puppies, Spiky and Filou. The two scratched at Caleb's bedroom door and Matt knocked. Caleb was sitting on the bed nervously playing with his fingers when Matt and the two puppies walked in. Spiky and Filou jumped onto the bed and rested their heads on Caleb's lap. "Are you alright?" Matt asked. "No." Caleb said softly. "Hey, everything will be fine. You know it takes time to give birth like that." Matt said. "Yes, but the others weren't born too early. What if something goes wrong?" Caleb asked. "Hey, everything will be fine. Now listen. How about the four of us going for a little walk." Matt suggested. Caleb nodded and Spiky and Filou were already waiting impatiently in front of the closed door. Caleb got dressed and Matt informed Sylvie. Caleb put Spiky and Filou on a leash and waited outside. They drove to Grant Park and walked along Lake Michigan. "I don't know why I got so nervous all of a sudden." Caleb said. "Hey, it's ok to be nervous. We're all a little tense, but I promise you everything will be fine." Matt reassured him. "It's just, so much happened. First, I was on the verge of burnout, then there was the suspicion that dad might not be my dad, then the whole custody battle and finally Renee was stalking me and threatening me." Caleb said. "Hey. The last few months have not been easy, you are absolutely right. But that's all over now and you can finally live a normal life. Caleb, look at me...you get 2 little siblings. You have so many people around you who appreciate and love you. And we're here for you no matter what's going on with you." Matt said. Caleb wiped the tears from his face and Matt gave him a hug. Then Matt's phone rang. "That's your dad...Hey Kelly, how's it going?" Matt asked. "Hey, everything's fine so far. The little ones are taking their time, but it should be ready in the next few hours. How about you? Sylvie told me you're on the road?" Kelly asked. "Yes, everything alright. Spiky and Filou just needed to go on a walk and Caleb some fresh air." Matt said. "Can you give him to me?" Kelly asked. "You're on speakerphone." Matt said. "Hey Dad." Caleb said. «Hey my big one. What's going on?" Kelly asked. "I don't know either. I got so nervous all of a sudden." Caleb said. "Hey, it'll be fine, I promise you." Kelly said. "That's what Uncle Matt said, too." Caleb said. "There you go...I have to go back in, I think it's starting. I'll get back to you." Kelly said. "Okay, see you later." Matt said and hung up. "See, I told you so." Matt said and Caleb nodded. "C'mon, let's move on." Matt said.
When the two returned home, Lydia came towards them. Caleb was about to pick her up when Benjamin came out of the living room. "No, Lydia. You can't go out alone." he said and tried to carry Lydia back into the living room. Caleb and Matt frowned at each other. "What are you doing?" Matt asked. "I have to practice." Benjamin said. Lydia resisted Benjamin's solicitude. Caleb picked up his sister and walked her into the living room. "Are you mad, now?" Benjamin asked. "No, I'm not mad. Just amused." Caleb said and smiled. "Hey you two. How was your walk?" Sylvie asked. "The walk was really good." Caleb said. "Did Kelly reach you?" Sylvie asked. "Yes, he did." Matt said, sitting down next to her. "And what happened to you guys?" Caleb asked. "Not much. Except that Benny didn't take his eyes off his little sister. But it was really cute." Sylvie said. Caleb let Lydia back down and sat on the couch. "How are you?" Sylvie asked. "I'm still nervous." Caleb said. "It's going to be fine." Matt said, putting his arm around Caleb's shoulders. "Yes, I know. It's just they've been in the hospital for almost 8 hours now." Caleb said. Spiky and Filou jumped onto the couch and rested their heads on Caleb's lap. "Will you help me with my homework? Maybe that's distracting me?" Caleb asked. "Yes, of course." Matt said. Caleb got his school bag from his room and sat down at the kitchen table with Matt.
