The 2 weeks holiday in Thailand flew by. They spent the last day on the beach building sand castles or swimming. Also, Caleb had his last surfing lesson. While Caleb stood on the surfboard, Layla, Kayla, and Matt were in the water, Kelly built a sandcastle with the boys, and Stella and Sylvie had fun with Lydia. "Have you noticed how Lydia hasn't shown any interest the whole time Caleb was in the water here in Thailand?" Stella asked. "Yeah, usually if he just pops into his room, she starts screaming." Kelly said. "Well, apparently the beach was more interesting than Caleb." Sylvie said. "It was certainly a relief for him not to always have to be around her, but also to do something that he likes." Stella said. "Daddy, is Kayab going away?" Benjamin asked. "What?! What makes you think that?" Kelly asked. "Alex's bubby (brother) left too." Benjamin said. "Hey Benny, look at me. Alex's brother is also slightly older than Caleb. Of course, Caleb will eventually move away from home, but that will take a few more years." Kelly encouraged his son. "Hey, there's our surfer. Has Thailand already signed you up for the surfing team for the next Olympics?" Stella asked when Caleb came back. "Not yet, but who knows." Caleb laughed. "How was it?" Kelly asked. "Really fantastic. Here, I even got a certificate and Kamon also gave me his number so we can keep in touch and he said he might come to Chicago sometime." Caleb said. "We're glad you had fun." Sylvie said. "Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I like being the babysitter, but it was nice just being a teenager once." Caleb said. "I think we should go back and pack our things. We're going to the airport in 3 hours." Stella said. "You're right. Come on guys, we gotta go." Kelly said. "No, we're not done with our sandcastle yet." Matty and Benjamin said. "I know my darling, but we're flying home today and we still have to tidy up our room and pack everything." Sylvie said. "Listen. We have more than 2 months of summer vacation left, what do you think if we take a trip to the beach and build a big sandcastle there?" Caleb suggested. "Okay, can we go home?" Matty and Benjamin asked excitedly. "Then we have to go now." Stella said. "Matt, Layla, Kayla come on, we have to go." Sylvie called. "Hey, how was it?" Matt asked. "Great, I even got a certificate." Caleb said, proudly showing him his surfing certificate. Back at the hotel, everyone went to their rooms and packed their suitcases and bags. At around 5 p.m. they were driven by the hotel bus to the airport, 3 km away.

After checking in, they went to security and put their things on the belt. Caleb was the last to go through the metal detector. As he passed through, the detector started beeping. "Have you got any metal objects in your pockets?" one of the security guards asked. Caleb felt his pockets and pulled out a small stuffed animal from Lydia. "Oops, sorry I totally forgot about that." Caleb said. "Never mind, put it in the box and go through it again." the security man said. Caleb put the stuffed animal in a box and went through the metal detector again while Lydia on the other side protested and cried. When Caleb ran through again, it beeped again. "I have a feeling the detector doesn't like me." Caleb joked. The security guard pulled Caleb aside and searched him with a handheld detector. It started beeping again in the groin area. "Have you got anything else in your pockets?" the security guard asked. Caleb felt his pockets and found one of Benjamin's toy cars. "There we have the culprit." the security guard laughed. Caleb was visibly embarrassed. "I've flown at least 100 times and nothing like this has ever happened to me." Caleb said. After that was settled, Caleb could go to his family. "Why didn't he let you go?" Benjamin asked. "Because I still had one of your toy cars in my pocket." Caleb said, handing the car to Benjamin. After that they went to a restaurant and ate something. Boarding began at 11:15 p.m. and the plane took off punctually at 11:40 p.m. to Zurich. There they had a 3-hour layover the next morning before they took off at 9:45 am for Chicago.
