Chapter 19

First Day of school

"I'm home." Caleb called, who, as always, is the last one home from school. He put his school bag in his locker, took off his shoes and jacket and went into the kitchen. «Hey, well? How was high school?" Stella asked curiously. "Suffice it if I say I'd like to go back to middle school?" Caleb asked, getting a water from the fridge. "That bad?" Kelly asked. "Worse, but I'll tell you later." Caleb said. "Open Kayab." Matty said, who now came into the kitchen with a package. The others followed him. "What have you got there?" Caleb asked, taking the package from him. "Mommy and Daddy gave it to us but said we had to wait until you got home." Layla explained. "I have a premonition." Caleb said, sitting down at the kitchen table with the little ones. "Who wants to open up?" Caleb asked. "Me." Matty said and Caleb pushed the package over to him. Matty opened the package. "Another package?" Layla asked. "May I open this?" Benjamin asked. "As long as you don't break your heads." Stella said and Matty handed the package over to Benjamin. Benjamin opened it and no longer understood the world. "You guys give us 2 photos?" Kayla asked, confused. "I wish it was just 2 photos." Caleb said, scratching his forehead. Sylvie took the two photos out of the package and put them on the table. "What are those photos?" Kayla asked impatiently. "These are ultrasound pictures. See this dot here?" Caleb asked, pointing to a small black dot in the blurry image. The little ones nodded. "This little black dot will be a little baby in 9 months." Caleb explained. "Mommy baby?" Benjamin asked. «But there are 2 pictures. Does that mean they're going to be twins?" Layla asked. "Not quite." Caleb said. The little ones looked at him. He looked for the names on the pictures. "Here, this is your sibling and this is ours." Caleb said. "Mommy and Aunt Stella?" Kayla asked. "Yes." Caleb said. The little ones got very excited. "I want a brother." Benjamin said, hugging his mom. Lydia started screaming. "I think Lydia would rather have a sister." Caleb said, rubbing his ear. "How about you? What would you like?" Stella asked. "Doesn't matter. As long as he or she lets me sleep at night I'm fine." Caleb joked. "I hope it's a girl." Layla said. Me too." Kayla said. "No. Boy." Matty said. "Does Boden already know?" Caleb asked. "Yes, and we have already decided that we will stay at home." Sylvie said. "Yay. Can we come home after school?" Layla asked. "You can." Sylvie smiled. "Sometimes I wish I was back in elementary school, too." Caleb said. "Aren't you going to tell us about school?" Matt asked. "We got the new training schedule." Caleb said. "And?" Kelly asked. "I have training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday Friday I'm off school at 2pm and in the afternoon off." Caleb explained. "That sounds great, doesn't it?" Stella asked. "It does. Unfortunately, we now have a new coach and 2 new players. That means me and my teammates have to prove ourselves again." Caleb said. "How?" Matt asked. "Because the two new players are the sons of our new coach." Caleb said. "Oh, I see." Sylvie said. "Other topic. Haven't you looked through the ads for apartments? Did you find something suitable?" Caleb asked. "Yes, we have." Kelly said, getting some pictures. "Here, it has 15 rooms, 3 bathrooms, a wintergarden and a large outdoor area with lots of space to play." Kelly said, showing them the pictures. "How many rooms do we have in this house?" Caleb asked. "Seven, I think." Stella said. "Oh, wow." Caleb marveled. "We can visit it on Wednesday. Renovations are ongoing at the moment but should be completed by Wednesday." Kelly said. Afterwards, Caleb, Layla and Kayla took the two puppies for a walk while the adults prepared dinner. After dinner, Kelly helped Caleb with his homework.

The next morning, Kelly drove Caleb to school before driving to the station. The morning passed quietly with only one call. In the afternoon, however, an operation should come in that will completely turn the lives of the Severide and Casey family upside down.
