Caleb was still at school when things got a little dramatic at home a few days later. Stella suddenly had severe abdominal pain. Matt called an ambulance and Kelly took her to the hospital.
"I'm home." Caleb called when he got home from school late in the afternoon. As soon as he closed the front door, he felt someone clutching his legs. "Hey, what's up?" Caleb asked when he saw his little brother crying. He put his school bag on the shelf and picked it up. “Mmmm. What's going on?” Caleb asked. "M-mommy and D-daddy gone." Benjamin sobbed. "What? How so? What's going on here?” Caleb asked, now a little worried. "Stella had severe abdominal pain and your dad took her to the hospital." Matt explained, coming downstairs. "Wait? What? How is she doing? And how are the babies?" Caleb asked. “Calm down. We haven't heard anything yet, but when you're pregnant with twins, something like that can happen.” Sylvie said. "I don't remember you having any trouble with your twins while you were pregnant." Caleb said. Caleb walked into the living room carrying Benjamin and sat on the couch. He turned on the TV and sat his little brother next to him. Benjamin sucked his thumb and snuggled into Caleb's side.
When Kelly got home from the hospital that evening, the kids were already in their rooms. Matt and Sylvie were in the kitchen cleaning up. “Hey. How is Stella?" Sylvie asked. "All right." Kelly said. "And the babies?" Sylvie asked. "Oh. They're both doing great." Kelly said. "So it wasn't that bad?" Matt asked, putting the plates in the cupboard. “It turned out that the two probably had a little fight. They want to keep Stella for a few more days just to make sure they both calm down." Kelly explained. “The two are not even born and they are already causing trouble. I don't even want to know what it's going to be like when they're both born." Matt said, scratching the back of his head. "Where are the kids?" Kelly asked. "The little ones are already asleep, Andy and Juli are in their room and Caleb is in his room doing his homework." Sylvie said. "How is he?" Kelly asked. "He was worried but didn't show it openly so as not to upset the little ones." Matt said. "He still feels responsible for the little ones." Kelly said. "As the oldest, he will always feel responsible." Sylvie said. “I'll check on him. You said he is in his room?" Kelly asked. "Yes." Matt said. Kelly went upstairs and knocked on his eldest's door. Caleb lay half covered in his hammock asleep. Kelly took the book that was on Caleb's chest and put it on the bedside table. He tucked him in and kissed his forehead. Caleb woke up just as Kelly was about to leave the room. "Dad." he said, half asleep. "Hey." Kelly smiled. "How are Stella and the babies?" Caleb asked, rubbing his eyes. "All three are fine. It turned out that the two little ones probably had a little fight. They're keeping Stella for observation for a few more days." Kelly explained. "So, isn't it a bad thing?" Caleb asked. "No, don't worry." Kelly smiled. Caleb lay back down and Kelly tucked him in. "Dad, can you quickly sign the note that's on my desk? We got the math test back today." Caleb said. "May I see the grade or should I just sign it?" Kelly asked, picking up a pen. "It's a B." Caleb said. "Very good. I'm proud of you.” Kelly said and signed the test.
The next morning Caleb struggled out of the hammock. He got dressed, packed up his school stuff and went downstairs to the kitchen. "Good morning." said Kelly, who was preparing breakfast. "Good morning, Dad." Caleb said, putting down his school bag and sitting down at the table. "Sleep well?" Kelly asked. "Next time remind me not to sleep in the hammock anymore." Caleb said. “All right...Here.” Kelly said and brought him his breakfast. "Thanks." Caleb said. "You are welcome. And what's on your agenda today?" Kelly asked. "Not much. I have an English test in the first lesson and otherwise just normal high school madness.” Caleb said. "And what about your training?" Kelly asked. "I don't go anymore." Caleb said, clearing his plate. "Are you sure?" Kelly asked. "What's the point of training if I'm just sitting on the bench anyway and watching. Also, Michael and Jason haven't been training for weeks. They both stopped playing soccer altogether." Caleb said. "What exactly do you mean they haven't been training for weeks?" Kelly asked. Caleb said nothing and packed his lunch box. "Caleb Jeremy Severide, I asked you a question." Kelly said sternly. "I haven't been training for about 5 weeks." Caleb said softly. "I'm sorry, I don't think I understood you correctly. Could you please repeat that again?" Kelly asked, now clearly annoyed. "I haven't trained in five weeks." Caleb said. "Why didn't you tell us you didn't want to go anymore, then we would have found a solution." Kelly said. "Sorry Dad but I know how much money you guys spend every year so I can play soccer and I didn't mean to disappoint you." Caleb said. "And just not going to training would be better than letting us know. What did you actually do during that time?" Kelly asked. “I was out with the boys. Why else did I beg you guys to buy me a combo annual pass for the museums, zoos and aquariums back then." Caleb said. "At least we've made a good investment in one thing." Kelly said. "Dad!" Caleb said. "Good morning." Matt said, coming into the kitchen. "Good morning." Kelly and Caleb said. "Are you alright?" Matt asked. "Caleb just told me he hasn't been training for about 5 weeks." Kelly said. "What!? Why not?” Matt asked, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Why do you think I should still go to training when I'm only allowed to sit on the bench and watch anyway?" Caleb asked, getting rather annoyed by the conversation. "If you're tired, why didn't you talk to us?" Matt asked. "Honestly, I don't want to talk about it anymore." Caleb said, walking out of the kitchen. "Would you like me to at least drive you to school?" Kelly asked. "No thank you. After this conversation, I need some space." Caleb said, shouldering his school bag and left the house.
