Athena's POV
Stepping out of the car, Sean decided to be a gentleman and hold his hand forward to help me out. Once I was standing, he casually placed a hand on my lower back which was bare. I inhaled sharply when his cold rings made contact with my exposed skin and ignored the shiver which ran throughout my entire body.
"Act natural," He said as he used his other hand to fix his mask while I fixed mine, nodding. He was wearing a black tuxedo, looking as formal as ever.
"We got this." I muttered, walking towards the entrance where there were two well built security guards standing on either side of the door, each holding a list in her hands. They were heavily armed, their guns in their waistband were showing.
"Yeah, we got this." Sean repeated, taking a deep breath as we neared the men. He had this figure out and I trusted him.
"Name?" One of the man asked, not taking his eyes from the list.
"Mr and Mrs Williams," Sean replied in his monotone voice. The guard looked up at that, narrowing his eyes at Sean who kept a neutral look on his face and raised his brows at the man, "is there a problem?"
"No, sir, nothing." The guard shook his head, stepping aside, "have a great night, Mr and Mrs Williams."
We only nodded at that and made our way inside. The place was crowded and beautifully decorated. There was a huge chandelier hanging in the middle of the ballroom, a large blank space underneath it while the corners of the room was filled with round tables and chairs. There were large tables on the left side of the room on which there was a lot of different foods.
Men and women were all fancily dressed, women wearing gowns and men, suits, with their masks, of course. It was hard to distinguish their faces with those masks, true to Sean's words.
"What now?" I asked Sean who was beside me, his eyes travelling around the place looking for someone— probably our target.
"Now, we blend in." He replied, unknowingly his thumb rubbing circles on my bare back. I tried to ignore it but him repeating the action was not helping at all. Yet I said nothing. "Come on," he said, leading me towards the large table of food.
Dropping his hand from my back, he grabbed a strawberry from the large bowl and brought it to his mouth, eating it. "Damn, these are good."
"Are they?" I grabbed one as well and ate it, "damn, these are good." He rolled his eyes at my words, about to take another when a voice interrupted us. "And who might you two be?"
Turning around, we were met with the man who we came for tonight. Joseph fucking Ambrose. He flashed us a welcoming smile, he was the only one not wearing a mask which just made our job easier.
"Drake Williams," Sean replied calmly, extending his hand for Joseph to shake which he did, he had a pretty firm grip on Sean's hand as he stared at him as if he had won a jackpot. "Ah, Mr Williams! I thought you wouldn't come, really! It's a pleasure to have you with us tonight."
"Pleasure's all mine," Sean nodded, retracting his hand before placing it on my lowe back again, "this is my wife, Grace. Darling, this is Joseph Ambrose."
"It's a honour to meet you, Mr Ambrose," I flashed him a smile which was anything but real but sure did look real as hell in Joseph's old eyes.
"A beautiful wife you've got there," Joseph laughed, grabbing my hand and placing a kiss on my knuckles making me shiver— not in a good way. I needed to sanitise my hand.
"Trust me, I know," Sean said casually, I'm a lucky man." Joseph smiled, letting go of my hand before placing a hand on Sean's shoulder, "come to my office later on. It's the second door on the left on the first floor. We'll talk about the..." his eyes glanced around the room as if he was scared anyone was eavesdropping, "business." He lowered his voice when he said that.
"Of course," Sean nodded, "I'll see you then." Joseph dropped his hand to his side, offering us a charming grin, "thank you for coming, both of you. Have a pleasant night. I'll see you two around. Don't forget about it, please and you're free to bring the lady along. Oh and the dance is about to start. I'm expecting to see you two on the dance floor." He then walked away, leaving us two behind.
"I'm not dancing." We said at the same time, nodding at each other as I said, "good."
