Sean and I were walking in the large empty hallways when he suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me in the corner of a wall, backing me against it.
I furrowed my brows in confusion, "what—" he cut me off by placing a finger over his lips, motioning for me to be quiet which I did. He was towering over me, his face an inch away from mine and his other hand was on the wall beside my head. My breath hitched at the proximity and my heartbeat raced but Sean was too busy doing whatever what to notice how our proximity was affecting me.
That's when I heard it.
Two men, unfamiliar voices speaking as Sean and I listened in.
"I don't know how Clarissa died." That was Joseph's voice, definitely. It wasn't hard to figure that one out considering that his voice was always hoarse. "But I have a feeling that my other granddaughter is involved in it."
"Well, do you know where she is?" The unfamiliar voice asked earning a loud sigh from Joseph, "no, no, unfortunately I don't."
"I thought you had men keeping tabs on her." The unfamiliar voice spoke again as their footsteps drew closer and closer. Joseph let out a scoff, "yes, I thought so too! But somehow all of my men are magically disappearing!"
I glanced at Sean and found his lips twitch up at Joseph's words. Of course he had something to do with that. I could not help but smile.
"What do you mean, magically disappearing?" The unknown man asked, his voice holding a clear mocking tone, "this isn't fucking Harry Potter or whatever shit, Joseph. People don't just disappear."
Their footsteps could no longer be heard which meant that they stopped walking. Joseph then spoke again, "yeah well say that to those ten men I sent to keep an eye on my precious younger granddaughter but never heard from them ever again."
"Maybe they bailed on you?" The other man suggested, "I mean, you're not exactly the nicest boss to have."
"They wouldn't bail on me," Joseph said, getting all defensive, "they swore Omerta. They literally just disappeared. I can't track them— I've tried, trust me."
"Maybe your granddaughter found out and got rid of them." Unknown guy suggested earning a scoff from Joseph, "even if she did found out, there's no way she'd be able to just get rid of them alone. She's had help, definitely."
"Whoever helped her are clearly no one to be messed with," the other guy cleared his throat, "who do you think helped her? Does your granddaughter has any... mafia friends?"
"Not that I know of," Joseph responded thoughtfully making me furrow my brows. Didn't Clarissa tell him about that? Maybe she didn't get enough time.
"We'll figure it out." The other man said, "for now, we need to get that deal with the Williams and then we find that granddaughter of yours."
Who's we? And what deal?
"Alright," Joseph said, the footsteps resuming once more, "let's go back to the party."
I held in a breath as Sean came even closer to me when the two men walked past us. Once we could no longer hear their voices and footsteps, I let out a relived sigh while Sean looked at me.
I stared back at him, not knowing what to do. It was like all my senses were gone— all I could do was stare in his grey eyes while he stared back in mine. He had long dropped his finger from his lips and other his hand was now hanging to his sides but the other one was still on the wall beside my head.
"Athena," his eyes flickered from my eyes to my lips.
"Hmm?" I couldn't bring myself to speak. What the hell was wrong with me?
"I'm gonna kiss you," he stated making my grip on my purse tighten as he looked back in my eyes, "is that okay?"
I could only bring myself to nod. He slowly lowered his head, bringing his lips closer to mine. His breath fanned my lips as I neared my own face to his, wanting to finally feel his soft lips on mine. However, he was hesitating.
Until he no longer did.
Sean's lips finally met with mine and I felt— not butterflies but a whole damn zoo in my stomach.
