The party.
The fucking party.
Clarissa was a well known woman in the business world thus many people knew her and the last name that we shared publicly; Greene.
To the world, I was Athena Greene, young sister of the CEO of Greene Corp, Clarissa Greene. She didn't know that we didn't share the same father and I didn't intend on letting her know as well. She would most certainly throw a fit.
Clarissa had always wondered how I was thrice as rich as her despite that it was her being the one working her ass off. It did occur to her that I was involved in illegal stuffs and she even confronted me about it. I did not lie to her but I didn't tell her the entire truth either.
What she knew was only that I'd race and get money through that. That was the only way she knew of. But, of course, it wasn't. Racing indeed was a way of me to get money, a lot at that but it wasn't the only thing I did. I was a pretty bored person, I had nothing to do in my life when I wasn't out there taking my revenge. So, I would do some other stuffs; one of them being doing Alessio's dirty jobs.
Being the Russian Mafia Leader took a lot of his time which meant, he was unable to torture Luigi as much as he wanted since his time was limited. So, I offered to help him. I would be the one doing stuffs for him like managing his shipments and all that—I would get paid for it. Alessio wished to give me money without me having to do anything but I didn't want to be dependent on him.
Sometimes, I'd also work in the club as a waitress because it was fun and I'd also get the spend time with Eden and Ben. When people would talk like shit to me, I'd talk back because there was absolutely no risk of me getting fired or anything. The customers would be angry but I couldn't care less—though Eden made sure that I avoided working there as much as he could.
It's been around two months since I met the De Lucas and the Romanos at Alessio's mansion. Later that day, Sean dropped me home. How nice of him to do so.
I stared at myself in the mirror, the long black dress I had on hugging my body perfectly. It was an off-shoulder plain dress with a slit in the legs. I liked simple stuffs. My black high heels matched perfectly with the beautiful dress and my hair was straightened by Clarissa earlier.
The dress was a gift by Clarissa who wanted me to look my best at her party and give a good impression to all her guest. She did not want me to screw this up for her and I wasn't going to.
She has, after all, been working really hard for her company. Actually, the company was Gerard's but when he died, everything was automatically transferred to Clarissa. The company was complete shit when it was under Gerard's control but when Clarissa got her hands on it, she made it successful.
I forced a smile on my face and immediately cringed at how it looked. Shaking my head, I muttered a string of curses as I debated on how to act properly in front of high class guests. Several known businessmen and women would be present. Clarissa asked me to make a good impression. If I wanted to do that, I needed to act and behave like them. I seriously didn't want to screw this up for her so I was going to do my best.
After checking whether I looked fine one last time, I left my room and made my way downstairs.
The hall was crowded. People were everywhere, on the stairs, standing near the door and some were leaning against the wall, talking among themselves. However, Clarissa was nowhere to be seen.
They were all wearing fancy dresses, suits, expensive jewelleries, accessories and stuffs. My hands were itching to steal those things just for fun. I could easily do that—stealing things—from people who I knew could afford. It was some sort of hobby for me. I let out a sigh as I remembered that this party was for Clarissa and I would not ruin it.
"Ah, you must be Ms Greene's little sister!" An unfamiliar voice spoke up making me turn to come face to face with an old man. The dude was shorter than me, making it seem like I was talking to a child though his white hair, wrinkled skin and beard was a dead giveaway. "Goodness, don't you look stunning?"
"Yeah," I grabbed two glasses of champagne from a waiter who was walking by and handed one to the old man who took it, muttering a small "thank you," as he did so. "And who might you be?"
"Oh, how rude of me not to introduce myself!" He chuckled and I was not amused at all yet I faked a chuckle. "My name is Barry," he extended his free hand for me to shake which I did, "Barry Winters." Barry Allen? Oh for fuck's sake, be serious— "I am the CEO of Winters Industry."
"Oh yes!" I faked a look of recognition, "I've heard of that." No I haven't. "What you do there is very interesting. I thought of working there but you know—" I took a sip of my champagne, "—with my sister being a CEO herself, it would look bad. Would it not?"
"Indeed, it would." He laughed, gulping down his own drink, "but it was very nice of you to even consider working for me! I'm sure you would've done greatly. I can see it in you."
"Right?" I finished my champagne, now holding an empty glass between my fingers. "I had a nice talk," he smiled as he continued, "what is your job, anyway? Do you work for your sister? I've never seen you before?"
"I do work for her but however, I work from home which is why you've never seen me," I responded, lying smoothly. He nodded in understanding, "of course, of course. Where's your sister? I'd like to speak to her and maybe even invest—"
"She's probably in her room, still getting ready. You know, she has been speaking to me about this day for months! She kept on telling me how excited she is for today. And she has also been working day and night for the company to come where it has today." I replied, looking carefully at the man's expressions. He seemed pleased so I continue, "her excitement and hardwork has touched my heart. It would mean that you're heartless if you don't consider giving her a chance." I let out a fake laugh which he joined in.
"Indeed, it would." He agreed, "I have full intention on giving her a chance. Clarissa is a bright woman and so are you, by the way. Oh, would you look at that? There she comes!"
