|Sean's POV|

"I wanna get drunk," were the first words I said to Alessio who was busy playing with Elisa's small hands as he sat on the couch with her in his lap.

"Same," he mumbled while I sat beside him, "but Enzo strictly had everyone hide the strong drinks so we celebrate his son's birthday party sobber. Why do you wanna get drunk anyway?" He raised his brows suggestively, "is it a certain assassin? I don't know, Athena perhaps?"

"No," my reply was quicker than I anticipated. He only shot me a bland look in response, "yeah sure. I believe you."

"What? it's true. It's got nothing to do with her." It had everything to do with her. But he didn't need to know that or it would result in a long time of teasing and that was the last thing I wanted.

"Then what is it?" He questioned, placing Elisa's hand in his palm, "she's to tiny and fragile. Look at her... I need to work on that when she grows up. Teach her everything from torture to killing. She's gonna be a bad bitch."

"Of course she's gonna become a bad bitch," I scoffed, "her mother is Lea."

"True that," he nodded and I couldn't help the snort which passed my lips as I spoke, "let's hope she didn't inherit Enzo's dumb side." Alessio let out a chuckle, nodding towards the direction where Enzo was standing and glancing at us every now and then, "shh, he's looking."

Enzo narrowed his eyes at us when our eyes met making both Alessio and I shoot him matching grins which resulted in him rolling his eyes at us before going back to the conversation he was having with an unknown dude.

Just then, my eyes fell on the woman we were speaking of at the bar, talking to none other than Athena. They were smiling and laughing— what was that? sister bonding time

"She wants this, you know?" Alessio's voice made me look at him. I raised my brows, confused, "what?"

"Athena," he clarified, "she wants them to know who she really is— part of the family and not some outsider. She's tired of hiding her real identity."

"Then why don't you just—"

"—I can't do that," he cut me off, shaking his head, "it would put her in danger. You know how this whole thing works." What would he have done if he knew that she was already in danger?

"How's your relationship with your girlfriend going?" He asked, changing the subject. I leaned in and held Elisa's middle finger forward, showing it to Alessio who chuckled before rolling his eyes, "you suck."

"What is this? My granddaughter is not a puppet!" Maria exclaimed, walking towards us with her eyes widening in horror as she bent down and picked Eli up from Alessio's lap.

"Where did Enzo go?" Alessio asked, having noticed Enzo who walked out of the house as he disregarding Maria's words. Maria fixed the bracelet on Eli's wrist—the kid looked completely confused the whole time. She probably didn't even know what was going on— that she was in her brother's birthday party. Poor thing.

I pitied that kid, actually. I mean, her father's Enzo De Luca. That should be saying a lot.

"I don't know," Maria shrugged, "well anyway, I'm going to spend some time with my baby girl. I'll see you two around." Without giving us the chance to say anything, the older woman turned her back to us and walked away.

"Bitch incoming." I muttered under my breath, letting out a fake cough as I noticed Elizabeth making her way towards Alessio and I.

"That's my mother," he reminded, clearing his throat, "be nice."

"I can't," I stood up, straightening my suit, "not after that stupid fucked up behaviour she's been—" I was cut off by her voice, "—how are my boys doing?"

"I gotta go talk to Athena." I said, glancing at Alessio, "I'll see you around." Then I walked away from that toxic woman, heading straight to the bar. Athena and Lea were not there anymore, they found themselves on the couch, sitting and talking as if they were old friends.

Carter, who was busy playing subway surfers on his phone looked up at me with a small grin upon noticing my presence, "hey, boss."

"How's it going?" I grabbed the glass he filled me. He shrugged in response, "all good. You know what I realised? I kinda like being a bartender. It's fun— well, when nobody's bossing you around." Noticing my disinterest, he rolled his eyes, sighing, "Athena and I talked earlier."

That caught my attention. I raised my brows, "yeah? What did you two talk about?"

"Nothing. She said she wanted to get high but then I told her that we don't have anything high here which is the truth," he responded while I emptied my glass, "she said she had something on her mind that she wants to forget but she cant. Anyway, I don't see any danger or suspicions people so I think we're good for the night."

I had Carter come to the De Luca Mansion to keep an eye on Athena as she was in danger. I didn't want anything to happen to her—and the best way to ensure that was to have someone keep an eye on her at all costs. Nobody knew Carter, they never met him—so they wouldn't suspect anything and besides, I trusted him. He was good at what he did.

"What did you tell her about you?" I asked, furrowing my brows at my second in command. He scratched the back of his neck, "I might have told her that I was your second in command but that's okay, she didn't say anything. I told her about some deal that you, Alessio and Enzo had. She believed that."

"She believed that?" I repeated, narrowing my eyes at him, "I highly doubt that she did."

"Well, she did." He smiled making me sigh, "what if she goes and tell Lea about you? This would fuck everything up."

"Don't worry," He waved his hand dismissively, smirking slightly, "the ladies are talking about you not me. I've been eavesdropping. Athena said that she finds you kinda hot and also that she would fuck you anytime."

I huffed, "liar." Carter chuckled at that, "okay, okay, the last part was a lie but they really are talking about you."

Interesting.
