Joker peered down at his phone, looking unsure.

He was spending the night in a hotel. He had work to do with another crime boss, who was located a couple of hundred miles outside of Gotham, so he, Frost and a few henchmen had rooms in a nice hotel for the night.

Joker opened up his contacts, staring at Harley's name for a few moments. her name always changed in his contacts as could never choose a nickname to keep it as. it was currently "My Dear," and last week it was "Kitten."

Joker's thumb hovered over her name. As much as he wanted to call her and check in to make sure she was alright, it was currently two in the morning, so she was most likely asleep.

Joker eventually put his phone down on one of the nightstands, deciding to leave it until tomorrow morning so as not to wake her. Just as he was just turning to go to sleep, Harley's ringtone started playing from his phone.

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"PLEASE DON'T BLINK!!"

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"PRETTY IN PINK!!"

"LET MY BODY SINK!!"

Joker chuckled slightly before picking up his phone and turning it on to see the notification saying "'My Dear' requested to FaceTime." He clicked to accept the call, a smile appearing on his face when he saw Harley's face on the screen. She seemed to be laying in their bed, and she was wearing his red, button-up shirt. Joker's smile lowered when he took in Harley's facial expression.

Her eyes were teary and reddened, her cheeks were flushed and stained with tears, her lower lip almost unnoticeably quivered, and she was softly sniffling.

"Baby, what's wrong? Is Bud okay?"

Harley had decided to stay behind because Bud had hurt one of his paws. Nothing was broken, but his paw seemed to be sprained and he couldn't walk on it too well. Harley didn't trust any of the henchmen to give either of her babies the treatment that they deserved, so she stayed behind to make sure that Bud's injury was properly taken care of. "Y-yeah, he's o-okay."

Joker sat up against the pillows of the hotel bed, his eyes not moving from Harley. "What's wrong, Honey?" he asked again. "I just miss ya'. that's all, Puddin."

He should have expected this. Harley was usually okay when he had to go for a day or two, she might get a little sad that she can't cuddle up with him at night and she'd need him to leave behind a few unwashed shirts of his for her to wear, but this was his first time going away since he had broken Harley out of Belle Reve. He thought it would go smoothly, but clearly, the poor girl was a wreck.

"It's going to be alright, baby. I'll be home tomorrow night," Joker promised. If he could, he would've wiped her tears, kissed her forehead, and promised her all the love he could give her, but sadly he couldn't. "I-I know, I just wish you were home..."

"I know, Darling, but I'll be there soon, okay?" Harley nodded.

Joker smiled slightly as an idea popped into his mind. "Come on, baby, give Daddy a smile. Can you smile for Daddy?" Harley gave another nod, then a small, meek smile. "Now put your forehead to the screen." Harley was slightly confused by his request but put her forehead to the screen as he asked. Joker leaned and kissed the screen where her forehead was, getting a small giggle. "There's my happy girl!" he exclaimed, booping her nose through the screen when she pulled away. "Thanks, puddin," Harley said, a gentle smile now on her lips.
