Summary:
Don't flirt with Wednesday around Enid. Not if you value your life.
—————————————————
It had been a few weeks since Enid and Wednesday had declared best friend status. A few short, but delightful weeks. So delightful in fact, that Enid was loathe to share her time with Wednesday now that they were besties.
Enid wanted to monopolize Wednesday's time in and out of the room. It seemed, however, that to some people this wasn't normal.
"What do you mean I'm acting weird," Enid scoffed when Yoko brought it up during lunch one day.
Yoko gave Enid a look and when she realized that Enid was serious, she sighed in exasperation. "You're giving off wolf vibes."
Enid arched a brow. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Her voice was strained; Yoko relented. "Sorry, that came off sounding species-ist. I just....well, you're being all territorial."
Enid opened and closed her mouth, furious. "She's my friend. My best friend. I am allowed to spend time with her."
Yoko thinned her lips. "Yes, but that's not the issue."
Enid crossed her arms over her chest. "Then what is?"
Yoko inhaled deeply. This was going to be long. "Anytime you're with her, and someone talks to her, you glare at them as if you'd like to claw them. Your claws have actually come out several times, whenever someone stands too close to Wednesday. When you caught a guy trying to pass a note to Wednesday to ask her out, you shredded both the note and his trousers. Not to mention, when Xavier asked Wednesday out to lunch you nearly bit his head off....I could go on," Yoko said.
Enid's eyes had gone wide. Had she really been behaving like a territorial pup? Oh, this was embarrassing. "I guess I just don't want to lose my best friend status with her."
"This is not about friendship," Yoko chuckled, humorlessly. "Enid, I think you're in love with her."
Enid laughed. "What?"
"You literally invited yourself to her date. Think about that for a little bit. Come back to me when you've realized it." Yoko left because the bell rang. Deep in her thoughts and frowning, Enid hurried to her next class. She barely paid any mind to what was going on because she was thinking about that date she'd apparently invited herself on.
Surely it hadn't been anything weird to tag along to the lunch date. She just wanted to make sure Wednesday was safe, after that last fiasco with Tyler. So when Xavier and Wednesday had sat down at the diner table downtown, Enid had sat down between them. To protect Wednesday of course.
And when Xavier began asking questions, it was only natural that Enid should partake.
"Wednesday, what did you think of the project from macabre psychology?" Xavier asked.
"She thought it was a bit underwhelming. She's already learned all that since she was six due to her uncle Fester who took her on a trip to the psych ward for a week long vacation."
Xavier gave Enid a side eye but continued asking questions. Each and every time Enid answered for Wednesday while Wednesday stared in front of her and did not engage at all. When the food came, she focused on eating her dish.
"That looks good." Xavier tried a last ditch attempt to make conversation. "Can I have some?" he asked, reaching over. Enid slapped his hand to the top of the table, keeping it trapped there. He winced in pain but held back the pained whimper.
