Summary:

When Wednesday invites Enid to investigate the newly opened cineplex, she can't wait to check it out with her best friend <3

————————————————-

Spring in Vermont was absolutely frigid , and that was one of the reasons Enid loved it so much. Nearly freezing temperatures meant even more excuses for extravagant layering, and everyone knows that the best fashion discoveries happen with unexpected combinations. At least, that's what Enid told herself as her teeth chattered on the corner in front of the Weather Vane. An ice-cold breeze blew down the wind tunnel Jericho called main street and Enid bared her teeth at the frigid air.

Okay fine, she hated being out in the cold almost as much as she hated losing, being left out, and being lied to, but she would put up with a lot for her roommate.

When they had gotten back from their extended winter break, Enid had stuck by Wednesday's side. They hadn't talked much about everything that happened. Enid enjoyed seeing which buttons she could push to get a rise out of the other girl, but reliving how they had star ed death in the face wasn't the most fun to revisit, for either of them.

So they hadn't talked much.

Normally Enid loved talking about what was happening, but Wednesday struggled – oh my god don't tell her she said that – with talking with the people that mattered to her. Not that Enid was one of them! They were friends, sure, but whatever that meant in Addams-ese still felt like a bit of a mystery to Enid.

But Enid had absolutely noticed that Wednesday had pointedly chosen to include her in the mysteries unfolding around them. Granted, these weren't always fun inclusions, but the way Wednesday made sure to leave clues about where she was going around their room , or asked for help ("This task requires an accomplice."), or even had chosen to stay in on the full moon, told Enid that something had changed between them. She couldn't quite put her finger on what, though.

The way that Wednesday's eyes had widened as she caught Enid at the waterfall's edge in the middle of the Sirenic Sadness was seared into her brain. She pushed away that flash of a memory. Friends save their friends. That's what good friends do. That's what Enid was doing right now , freezing her tail off in New England's evil version of springtime.

" You want me to just meet you in Jericho?" Enid had been baffled by the eerily-normal request.

Wednesday stared at her with those lifeless brown eyes. "That's what I said."

"Should I dress any particular way, or...?"

"We'll be investigating the new cineplex." Ah! Okay, Jericho's movie theater had just opened up over winter break – they had probably wanted to get everything operational before Nevermore kids descended upon one of the only hubs of entertainment in town – and featured a staggering two whole theaters. Double features had become all the rage amongst Nevermore's student population. Wednesday probably thought there was a connection to her mysterious stalker or one of the ghosts haunting her inside the darkened halls . Enid was touched that she was being explicitly invited.

"Okay! It's a date," Enid had said, smiling at her roomie.

Wednesday had balked at her, nodded once, and retreated back to her side of the room. Weird reaction, but she hadn't pa id it much mind. Enid had to think up a good movie theater investigating outfit, and that required her full attention.

The outfit, btdubs, ended up being rose gold gogo boots, hot pink tights, orange denim coverall shorts with a lavender belt, a pastel rainbow sweater with a shooting star pattern – yes they did sparkle, thank you for noticing – and a furry cream colored coat that went down to her knees. Whatever creature had died to make this coat must have frozen to death because it was doing nothing for her right now.
