The Feelings That Come After

It wasn't until the next morning that it occurred to Wednesday that she didn't know if she had been asked to the Rave'n dance as a room mate or as a courter, but now that the moment had passed she didn't know if it was appropriate to ask for clarification so their day started with Wednesday pointedly not talking about the previous night. Choosing instead to get ready for the school day without speaking until Enid of course chose to break that unspoken silence on the matter.

"I know you probably don't want to talk about the whole comfort thing last night but I just wanted to say thank you" Wednesday heard over her shoulder, she found that she couldn't stand to look at Enid's undoubtedly overly emotional face right now she instead opted to simply nod stiffly in acknowledgement to the statement, heading to the door with Enid hot on her heels.

"You have ancient languages class first right?" Pushing past the awkward moment.

"I do"

"I'll see you in Botany then" Enid gave a cheerful wave as the two girls headed off in different directions for their respective first classes.

Arriving in the sparsely populated ancient languages class Wednesday sat in her usual seat away from everyone else, opened her book and tried to focus on one of the few scholarly pursuits she actually somewhat enjoyed at this school, but catching another blonde student enter the classroom immediately set Wednesday's mind onto a different track, Destination – Roommate.

Outside of her school uniform she was always clad in way to many colours, played annoyingly catchy songs that got stuck in Wednesday's head, somehow managed to type loudly on her phone. All things Wednesday normally found irritating but still, she felt herself gravitate to Enid, to seek her out in crowds or look for her if she had something to say, even if it didn't need to be said or could easily wait until they were both back in their dorm room.

And it seemed that proximity wasn't even the driving factor in these moments either, just because they were roommate's didn't mean that they had to naturally grow close, Wednesday could have delivered a perfectly formed scathing comment tearing at all of her insecurities to dissuade her from ever giving more than a tense nod upon returning to the dorm, but she didn't, she found that she couldn't. There was just something in Enid's presence that magnetised her to Wednesday, something she longed to understand but feared that when she did there would be no turning back from that truth, Pandora's box would be open.

She glanced down at her opened notebook and found the page blank rather than covered in the page of notes she would have normally amassed at this point in the lesson, Enid wasn't even here but Wednesday's thoughts were still steeped in the girls presence.

Straightening up and letting out a silent huff of air Wednesday resolved to put Enid out of her mind, put pen to paper and get on with her studies.

She would have ample time to dissect her thoughts later, and she was certainly a girl that liked to dissect, to pick apart an object or statement until she had found the kernel of truth that she had been looking for to bring everything into focus and complete the mental picture of what she was trying to solve.

A long half hour later her droning languages teacher finally freed them from the confines of his class Wednesday had barely managed to traverse down a single corridor on the way to her next class before she heard the unmistakable skipping steps of her roommate, and if she slowed her gait slightly then there were no witnesses around to notice save for one bubbly girl who, casually as she could, got into step with the dour ravenette.

"So, I heard in art class that someone nailed Ajax's door shut last night" Enid mentioned, trying overly hard in Wednesday's opinion to act normal, like this was a spy film and Enid was trying to drop a predefined code phrase.
