A Dance To Remember

It had been nearly a week since Enid's disastrous date and subsequent proposition to her morose roommate that they go to the Rave'n together and while the promise of a night out with her secretly sweeter than she let on friend had turned her mood right around for the first few days this was subsequently followed by a few days of a strange unspoken tension that had seemingly settled over the dorm overnight.

As she counted down the days for the night of the Rave'n she found herself commensurately counting up the number of times that she had caught Wednesday intently staring at her from her bicolour side of the room, and not in the 'smother her while she is sleeping' way that she had done for the first few weeks of residence at Nevermore, this was something different, something intense. And to her great frustration she didn't know the exact cause.

Was it because she was regretting agreeing to go to the dance with her and was trying to find the words or otherwise silently convey to Enid that she was hoping to be released from her promise? Did she feel that Enid had used the awkwardness of the moment to trap her into making a promise that she didn't want to keep?

The thought had occurred to her several times to confront her on the matter but something always stopped her, that something was fear. After the night that Wednesday had comforted her and the following voluntary coffee hang out Enid had felt that their relationship was on the rise, that after all these weeks sharing a room they had finally found solid footing around each other and she didn't want to jeopardise that in any way because if she was reading the situation wrong then a badly worded question or statement could deal a massive blow to their growing bond and Wednesday would close off like she had been when first joining the school and all of their progress might be lost and Enid didn't want that for anything, especially not with how she had been feeling towards her roommate since she appeared at Nevermore like a storm cloud spilling out over the sky.

She truly didn't know what to make of it. So she did what she usually did when feeling lost, confide in Yoko.

So while they took turns trying out different make up styles on each other for the Rave'n Enid explained everything that she had noticed over the last few days, things that had been said, looks that had been sent, all of which was essentially summed up in a few simple words;

"It's just, Wednesday's been acting weird lately" The raised eyebrow she received in response to that statement had her feeling the need to amend it "Weirder than usual"

"I wouldn't worry about it" Yoko replied in a reassuring tone, but there was something in the way she said it, a lot of people wouldn't have caught it but Enid had latched on to Yoko when she joined Nevermore nearly two years ago and could read her quite well at this point.

"Do you know something?" Enid couldn't help but ask, the suspicion cause the near accusation to spill from her mouth.

"Know something?" While not as flat and measured as her roommate's comments the response didn't allay her anxiety at all.

"Have you talked to Wednesday?"

"Oh yeah, we talk all the time, she's just so open, the life of the party" Yoko replied, her tone sarcastic. Enid let out a heavy breath, she really had been hanging around Wednesday too much if she was seeing conspiracy in her one of her closest friends.

"She's much sweeter when she lets you in a bit, she's just a little.. shy" Enid defended her unusual roomie for what felt like the 50th time since she arrived at Nevermore.

"That's certainly one word for it" Yoko retorted with a scoff while rifling through her makeup bag "I'm sure it's just nerves, I mean she's probably never been to a school dance before right?"
