Summary:
Alternative universe where you can hear the music playing in your soulmates mind.
Enid hears a mysterious melody and tries to decipher who it could be before the song drives her to insanity.———————————————————-
Ever since Enid had been a young werewolf, she had always been curious to meet who her soulmate would be. She knew that soulmates usually found themselves through music once they hit their early teens. The way her mother and father explained it, it sounded like a tune would start playing in Enid's head- a tune that was whatever song her soulmate really felt related deep in their soul.
Enid was ready to love and be loved, and she kept an ear out for any music that floated through her head. Though, they all turned out to be false alarms, given they were just songs she happened to be hooked on at the moment.
That was another thing that Enid wondered. Would she and her soulmate have the same music tastes? Enid liked happy, pop music. She couldn't stand if her soulmate liked dreary depressing music. But surely that would never happen- because soulmates were meant to be perfect matches for one another.
And so Enid kept wondering about her mysterious soulmate, and kept wondering, even after two years in Nevermore had passed and Enid at the age of 16, still had not found her soulmate.
Her parents started getting worried, but they were not overly concerned. Sometimes it took a little bit. Maybe Enid just wasn't going to meet her soulmate in high school.
That depressed Enid. She wanted to have a partner to rely on. It felt like everyone around her had someone. Which is why she ended up feeling close with Ajax. He too didn't have a soulmate yet and the two of them bonded over this fact, even leading up to them going on a few dates together.
Enid wasn't sure if she wanted something more with him. What if her soulmate showed up? Getting serious with Ajax would only lead to heartbreak. Luckily, he felt the same way so they stuck to casual dates and late night conversations for the time being. He was her best friend and confidant about her insecurities in not having a soulmate yet. It wasn't until Wednesday Addams became Enid's roommate that Enid had another person to talk to about lack of soulmates.
Enid would spend countless hours wondering and day dreaming about what song her soulmate would be thinking of. Of how her soulmate would look, or sound.
Wednesday, did not. It was refreshing to Enid to have someone that did not care about these sorts of things, that did not spend hours talking about soulmates. To be fair, Wednesday didn't care about a lot of things and though their first semester together was bumpy eventually they were able to find a common ground with one another.
Enid respected Wednesday's space and Wednesday tried to be more considerate of other people.
There had been a few fights here and there between them, but eventually everything had smoothed out and they were on good terms. They began to spend more time together, and Wednesday even joined Enid at lunch sometimes though she did death glare everyone over her meals.
Another year passed and Enid was 17, and thanks to Wednesday's lack of care on soulmates, seeing as Wednesday did not find hers, that Enid was settling to the idea that she just had to be patient to find her soulmate. Maybe he wasn't here at this school.
She decided to finally go into a full blown relationship with Ajax. The two of them had an amazing two months together. And then Enid woke up in the middle of the night.
Music was playing in her mind.
Her eyes grew wide as the curious tune played in her mind. What was this song? It had a pleasant enough beginning but once that passed, the music had an odd, almost squeaking kind of machine produced beat.
