Chapter 1

A stalker. How invigorating. It was the thing at the forefront of her mind when Wednesday came back to Nevermore in January. After a long, agonizingly comfortable break in the Addams household, Wednesday was more than ready to come back. Though, she would never admit such a thing to the people who called themselves her friends.

"I will miss you, my little tormenta," Gomez remarked when Wednesday got out of the car. He pulled her into an embrace, much to the teen's chagrin. She stood, rigid, until her father finally let go. He smiled at his daughter. "I'll expect stories of this semester's grotesque murders and escapades." The girl nodded in understanding, her lips quirking up only slightly at the thought of more gore.

Morticia came next, smoothing Wednesday's bangs out and cupping her cheeks. "Enjoy yourself, my darling." She leaned in closer so that the boys of the family couldn't hear. "You may be an Addams, but you have the flesh of a human. Don't get yourself killed. Remember that Goody cannot save you again."

She leaned away and smiled at her daughter, smoothing her blazer shoulder out before stepping back.

Pugsley didn't dare hug his sister, but he did offer her a nod and the pair shared remarks about how much she'd miss torturing him.

Finally, after all the mushy, agonizing family time, Wednesday clutched her suitcases, Thing hopped on her shoulder, and she stepped inside the walls of Nevermore once more. She took in its frightening, musty scent, and almost smiled again. It was good to be back.

"Wednesday!" came the shrill, overly cheerful cacophony of Enid Sinclair's voice as soon as Wednesday stepped inside their dorm. Enid's side was already nauseatingly decorated with every color of the rainbow. Wednesday wondered for a moment how long it had been since she had arrived. The werewolf approached her roommate, grinning excitedly. "Welcome back!"

Wednesday provided a blank expression. "Hello, Enid." Thing waved at her.

The werewolf took that as a compliment. At least she greeted her. After all they'd been through together, Enid hoped Wednesday was finally opening up. Wishful thinking.

"I missed you!" she chimed cheerfully, watching as her best friend began unloading her suitcases.

Wednesday set her folded bedsheets on her mattress. "I missed the torture of waking up to your shrill enthusiasm every morning."

Enid smiled and helped Wednesday slide the fitted sheet over her mattress. She was grinning from ear to ear, and Wednesday could practically hear her heart pulsing with excitement.

Wednesday looked up from making her bed. "What is it that makes you guzzle like an infant dog?"
