Chapter 12: The Boar and The Drums

"Y-You're really gonna go in there?! It seems so dangerous...." Zenitsa whispered as she trembled and kept herself behind you.

"We are demon slayers. This is what we are trained for after all Zenitsa. To fight back the monsters!" You took a few steps towards the house, having to drag the petrified girl along with you. "You don't need to be scared. You have to believe in yourself. You got this far after all!"

"I-I don't know if I can....I-I just....c-can't help but be scared...." She sniffled as you sighed and gently took her hands with your own. A blush coating her cheeks as she looked at you.

"I have no idea what it will take to convince you to come with us, but just know that I will do everything I can to protect you. I'll have your back. Okay?" You reassured her, which seemed
to do some good as she smiled again.

"O-okay sure....th-thank you Y/N. Y-you're the first person to ever really be so patient with me...." She averted her gaze.

"I do my best...." You gently pat her head as she looked back up at you.

She seemed to be locked in some sort of trance as she began to lean in closer to you, closing her eyes as she did. The only thing that stopped her from kissing you, was the fact that you put your hands on her shoulders and gently pushed her back.

"Y-you're really serious about this whole marriage thing, huh?" You sweated a little and chuckled nervously.

"O-of course I am!!" She stuttered, feeling a little embarrassed. "H-How couldn't I be?! I-I could die any day now! P-plus....y-you're kind and sweet a-and so, so cute!!"

"Th-thanks....I-I admit I've never really had a girl take this much interest in me....b-but for now, we have a mission to focus on. M-maybe we can talk about this later...." You gently held onto her hand and led her towards the house, where Tanjiro was waiting for you.

"Sorry about all that. Had to make sure our new friend was willing to come with us. Where's Nezuko?" You asked, noticing that he didn't have the box on his back anymore.

"Oh I left it with the two kids! They are gonna keep an eye on it for me!" He pointed over at them, with you following his finger.

"You sure that's a good idea?" You weren't entirely convinced that it was.

"Well I don't wanna bring her in here. She'll be safe there, I'm sure." He reassured before entering the house.

As you entered, you could feel Zenitsa's grip on your hand tightening. You were able to feel her trembling as well.

"Remember what I said Zenitsa. As long as I'm with you, I won't let anything harm you. Okay?" You heard her respond with a quiet 'Mhm' as you kept on following Tanjiro through the house.

You could feel a slight chill run up your spine as you slowly made your way through. Tanjiro sniffed the air to lead you in what you assumed was the right direction.

"Place is kinda giving me the creeps....like it doesn't feel right...." You mumbled as you heard a gasp from behind you.

"B-But if you're scared, then we're doomed!!! You said you would protect meeeeeee!!!!!" Zenitsa wailed as you sighed and turned around to calm her down.

"P-please just calm down....crying and yelling so loud won't help us at all. I'll still protect you!" You pat her head as you could hear running footsteps coming from the way you entered the house.

It was the two children who has lost their big brother. "Huh? Are you two okay? What's going on?"

"W-we were watching the box and it moved! S-so we got scared and came in here." The boy explained, making you smile and reach down to pat his head.
