Chapter 52: The Road To Recovery

"Aoi.....y-you know I....hate it when you're like this...."

You were set to be bedridden for another week or so yet even after waking up. Your injuries were that bad, you had been ordered to stay put by Shinobu and Kanae.

Both of whom fussed over you whenever they got the chance to do so.

Right now, you were with Aoi and she was not in a good way. She had tears running down her cheeks as she held a handkerchief up to her face to try and wipe them away as the fell.

"B-But....i-if I was stronger....y-you w-wouldn't h-have needed to go on th-that mission...." She spoke in between sobs.

It really did break your heart to see her like this. Normally she was so hard working, stubborn, serious but also had that kind and slightly energetic side to her.

Seeing her like this was just not right at all.

"I-it wasn't...your fault Aoi....." You reached over for her hand and grasped it gently as she looked at them and then at you.

"Y-you did....n-nothing wrong. I-I know you were scared...a-and you had every right to be....M-Mister Uzui shouldn't have come and t-tried to force you.....like that....." You said to her.

You hadn't been told yet that Shinobu and Kanae had already paid a visit to Tengen and given him a piece of their minds.

They both just arrived back at the mansion with smiles on their faces like nothing had happened.

"S-still.....I-I'm just s-so glad you're awake.....I-I felt horrible j-just waiting for news....I-I thought you were gonna die...." Her tears got worse again as she finished her sentence.

".....c-come here....." You said to her, causing her gaze to come back to you.

You held your arms open for a hug, which she slowly and gently accepted. Your arms wrapped around her and that feeling of protection came back to her again.

"I-it's....n-not going to be easy....t-to kill me....I-I can hold my own....a-and I won't stop fighting....n-not until every single demon....is dead....s-so that all of us....c-can live in a happy and free world...." You smiled at her as she gradually managed to smile back at you.

She sniffled and wiped away her tears again, which were beginning to cease now.

"Y-you....really are amazing. You know that?" She said to you with a slight blush forming on her face.

"Th-thanks.....y-you are as well.....I hope you get told that....o-often enough...." You gently rub her head as her blush worsened.

"L-Like I said before.....w-without you and the other girls....th-there would be no d-demon slayer corps....I-I know for a fact that whenever I get injured.....Aoi Kanzaki is there to....p-patch me up!" You chuckle as she smiled widely.

"H-Heh.....I-I really appreciate the faith you have in me....it means a lot...." She said before giving you a gentle kiss on the cheek.

Her face went even redder as she pulled away from the hug and stood up. Clearing her throat and straightening her uniform, she changed back to her usual nurse-like demeanour.

"Now, you already know you're on bed rest. You stick to that alright Mister?" She said while raising an eyebrow at you.

The whole thing made you chuckle.

"Y-yes ma'am! D-Don't worry....I-I'll stay put." You said as she nodded her head.

"Good. Now, I'm just off to go and make dinner. I'll be sure to bring you some once it's done." She said as she made her way to the door.
